While we really enjoyed beatiful nature of the island and ocean wildlife while snorkeling, we were rather disappointed with the hotel facilities and services. It was really not worth the price we paid.
We had "All inclusive" package which was expensive however with very limited choices. There was only one dining option (at the main restaurant) and one bar serving us (main bar). No options for All Inclusive at Fun pub and a la carte restaurant. Mini bar selection was very limited (2 cans of juice and 2 small bottles of cola), the rest was chargeable. Very limited choice of drinks offer in the bar under All inclusive.
You have to pay a lot for All inclusive and yet you feel yourself like downgraded person.
Food in the main restaurant was poor and repetitive, same grilled fish and meat every day, same pasta and very spicy indian food. No seafood or choice of fish as could be expected from Maldives.
No night entertainment, only live music once a week.
No free wi-fi in the rooms, wi-fi is very expensive. Free wi-fi in the main bar did not work at all or was incredibly slow.
We travel a lot and have a basis for comparison with other beach hotels offering All Inclusive options, inluding Turkey, Egypt, Spain and Canarian islands. Royal Island has one of the poorest packages for AI. On overall, I'd compare this hotel with 3-4 star in Turkey or Egypt which really did not meet our expectations of the 5 star hotel in Maldives.
We were fascinated by the nature and wildlife of the island and the ocean.
Nice beach villas, sufficiently isolated and with what seemed like a private beach. Outdoor shower was a good thing.
Hotel personnel is well trained, helpful and friendly.
Night fishing - it was really worth going!
