Staying at Blue Sky Tulum is like having your own private hacienda! There are under 10 rooms and all but 1 are oceanfront with beautiful breezes coming in off the water. The rooms are beautifully appointed with comfortable beds, TV, Air Conditioning and modern baths with 2 sinks, marble counters and floors, marble showers, and oversize towels and beach towels. Although a 10 minute ride by taxi to downtown Tulum, we considered this to be a blessing rather than a nuisance because our days were quiet and relaxing without all the hubbub of downtown. In fact, many times, we were the only people on the beach! The palapas provided excellent shade from the sun and the lounge chairs were very comfortable. Perhaps the most outstanding thing about this hotel is the group of people who take care of you like you were their closest family while you are there. No request is too great and everything is attended to immediately and with a smile. The restaurant serves excellent food. This was a big plus because we hardly ever left the hotel until dinner time and twice, we dined in because the place is so relaxing, you don't want to leave! They serve some of the best pizza I've ever eaten...thin crust, with fresh, delicious ingredients. In fact, we didn't have a bad meal there out of 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches and 2 dinners. The staff is so incredible...Erik, Ephrain, and Luis were all so accommodating and friendly. Yolanda did a superb job of keeping our room so clean and in tip top shape. The owner, Julian, is a personable man and accomplished hotelier who has obviously poured his heart and soul into this place, and it shows! My only regret was having to leave this place..cannot say enough good things!
If I had to complain about anything, and mind you, these are minor complaints, it would be that there should be a little more shelving for clothing in the closets and the beach could be better groomed (daily removal of seaweed). Also, going in to the water, there are a lot of rocks, but this is part of the natural landscape and not the fault of the hotel. Since I'm not a big swimmer, this was not such a bother to me and there is a swimming pool if you want to take a dip and not deal with the rocks. There is also a beautiful Cenote across the street where you can swim and snorkel!
