Living in lap of luxury cheap. Right in middle of everything. Nostalgia.
WiFi slow in room.
A delightful old hotel with lots of character, difficult to find nowadays. Very comfortable room, with good beds. The lobby is just like a museum with lots of antiques on display which are for sale.
The hotel is crumbling a bit, hopefully an investor will save it from further decay, it would be a terrible loss if such a jewel would disappear
Location coul not be better.
Night time bands in the square can get a little noisy. Lovely but like walking into an antique store. Correction, it is an antique store
Great ambience Strong wifi Room amenities
just the hearth of the town
Location was great lots of activities in the night
Bed was very hard
Location, but there are many other hotels in the same location.
We booked the hotel due to the good location and the promised free parking. Upon arrival we were notified that there was no parking on the dates we booked so we had to park at a garage and pay extra for this during our stay. The extra parking costs were rather high. We had to carry our luggage from the garage to the hotel. The hotel staff was very unfriendly at times.
atmosphere, antiqe decoration, close to the center
couldn't open balcony door, so we had to use AC to remove the "humid smell"
If you are into beautiful old buildings and antiques like I am, you will love the place. The hotel itself was built in 1901 and has retained it’s charm. It is loaded with antique furniture and much of it is for sale with price tags on it. The items were in excellent condition which was reflected in the price and when you consider the shipping charges to get something home, it might not be worth it but the antiques are beautiful to look at anyway.
Our room was on the second floor which was nice and quiet but had no windows. The rooms which face the park have balconies but the doors are sealed shut for “safety reasons” so you can’t actually use the balcony. The room only had one electrical outlet for the whole room and it was in the bathroom. The friendly staff supplied us with an extension cord which allowed us to charge more than one device at a time. The WiFi in our room was just OK.
beautiful old building and friendly, helpful staff; close to everything especially our favourite restaurants Cafe La Havana and Chaya Maya
tiles could be updated, (some are cracked), but this would lead to an updated price! All in all, the value and location can't be beat.
tranquility inside the hotel in full center of merida terras on the street with bar and restaurant romantic
no elevator the expresso machine was broke
LOCATION (right in the middle of the city centre) Building (still in its original state - it was built in 1901)
zzzzz....zzzz.... mosquitos... we all got beaten several times
Location excellent, right on one of the main plazas very near cathedral. Beautiful old colonial hotel, built 1900, full of antique furniture. Air con, lovely rooms and comfortable bed. Loved dog in reception. Staff friendly and gave us choice of 2 rooms.
No breakfast at hotel, but cafe that does really good breakfast literally outside main door. Don't get room at front over main square on Friday or Saturday night. ..the room attended even said this to us,so we chose the one Inside hotel. We asked in advance to have room not near front of hotel or on ground floor. ..best to do this.
Historic character, price
Showing a lot of wear, but for the price, character and location- hey its worth it.
Grand stairway and courtyard entrance, huge room with very high ceilings, completely quiet even though in the very centre of town. Ideal for a brief stay in Merida- close to everything.
Staff were great, location was great and the hotel has an old mansion feel to it. For what you pay, it's a good hotel.
I would definitely recommend NOT taking room 113 at the back though - there are no windows giving it a dark and dingy feel and it's next to a store cupboard that the bathroom windows open into. It's very noisy in the bedroom when staff are using the cupboard in the mornings. Get a room with a window!
It is wonderful to open the door of your bedroom and step out onto the wide, tiled and elegantly furnished internal verandahs overlooking the patio. You can stand and gaze and imagine the glamour of the heyday of the hotel. The atmosphere is evocative especially when you have the feeling that you are the he only guest in a forgotten remnant of the past. Staff are helpful, some with good suggestions of where the eat, including Cafe La Havana around the corner for breakfast and lechero.
When you walk in you feel that you are in a second hand furniture shop. And you are. Shame that the ground floor doesn't complement the upper levels with elegant arrangements and, why, a cafe. Huge potential, this place.
This place is a stunning period piece, with antiques throughout, right in the heart of Merida. Some very friendly, helpful staff. The taxi driver Sergio, at the sitio a block away, is an absolute gem of a person, a historian of all things Meridian and Mexican. We had him take us to the periods and outlying areas. One of the best memories of our trip.
Internet service was so slow were never able to connect at all for five days. One of the tours recommended by the front desk was disastrous - do NOT take the cenotes trip where you need to move by horse cart, which bumps so badly my spine hurt for days.
The hotel is located in the city center. The room are wide and clean, bed is comfortable.
The rooms facing the street are REALLY noisy. We tried to sleep but was quite impossible because the noise went on until 1.30 a.m. in the square where the hotel is located. In the end we were obliged to ask to change the room in order to sleep a while. If you like calm and quiet rest chose another hotel. The staff is not so friendly.
Its centrality, its history, its interior design--all A+. Would recommend, would use again. The price was moderate for the value received.
Location, nice old building with high ceilings
El Gran Hotel is not for everyone. It's an old hotel with a grand courtyard surrounded by ironwork balconies that looks like a movie set from Gone With The Wind. When it rains the courtyard leaks. On the other hand, each floor has a collection of antique furniture that is remarkable. Rooms are exceptionally large, bathrooms are small. This is a very special hotel and will appeal to those who like the idea of staying in a hotel that just isn't like anywhere else. Location is perfect.
Like all hotels in central Merida, the adjacent streets can be noisy.
This place is beautiful! We were escorted to two different room layouts and given a choice without asking. I would definitely stay here again!
Beautiful large room, good price, would stay again/recommend to friends.
