Score from 32 reviews Excellent
good location, not too far from zolcalo very secure, three doors
no spare keys. no accomodation with the room. luggage can be stored in a short window. owner has a little bit of attitude.
El Quijote is a very very nice hostal. The owner was really pleasant to us and helped us with whatever we needed. The room clean and tidy, the bed was big and comfy, the shower was fine there was hot water. We also had TV which was nice and there's a pc in the lobby. The terrace of the hostal is pretty cool to sit at. There is about 5-10 to the zocalo, but it's a nice walk through the town on Oaxaca. Highly recommanded !
I don't recommend this hotel and won't be back. But I like to give credit where credit is due - good things about this hotel are: - good security - good wifi in room, throughout hotel - very clean hotel - good books in the library they lent me - nice rooftop terrace - nice friendly cat, but they were aware some people are allergic so they made sure I knew not to allow the cat into the bedroom - I booked a single room but was happy to find my room had a very comfortable double bed - room is supplied with soap, towel, bottle of water - fridge for all guests to use
Hotel in Oaxaca. Big problems with got water for shower, but very clean hotel, homey feeling. I will start with the problems then move onto good points, unfortunately the problems meant i didn't enjoy my stay. I booked and paid for three nights. On check in Amellio and his wife Martha met me, gave me a map, showed me house rules. One of the house rules is please keep showers to 5 mins as they are low in water. Amellio showed me around, showed me theshared bathroom as I had booked a room with shared bathroom. He asked me to keep shower under 5 mins. It's family run so just A and M as staff. First night (Monday) I showered after A and M had gone to bed, couldn't get hot water going so I had a cold shower. On Tuesday morning I asked about it, he said to leave the water running for 5 mins at it will become hot. I had left it run for more than 5! He asked me to let him know tonight when I shower if I need help getting hot water going. I returned a bit late that night, Tuesday, 11pm, thought they were asleep so didn't run the shower as I thought I would wake them. But Then at midnight Amellio got home, very loud and rolling drunk. For next twenty mins I could hear him singing loudly, and Martha trying to quiet him and help him up the stairs. I could even hear him knocking things over and yelling in their apartment. I wasn't happy about all the noise, it was definitely the owner as I was the only guest! and he kept calling for Martha at the top of his voice. I knew he was in no state to fix the hot water so I took a cold shower for my second night in a row. Wednesday morning I sat down and explained I wasn't happy about the noise last night and the water situation. Because my Spanish is terrible and their English is good but not for details they got me to type my concerns into google translate, a good idea. I said I didn't think the cold water and the noise was something I should put up with for a hotel that is over 300 pesos per night.
Senora Marta and Senor Emilio are very welcoming and helpful hostal owners/operators.
The staff is very friendly and helpful; They maintain protocols for safety and cleanliness that is excellent. The hostel has a wonderful charm and ambiance that matches the art and beauty of Oaxaca. Best hotel experience of my entire 3 week trip in Mexico!
The warm welcome and care from the owners.
Extremely helpful and friendly staff Good and very clean rooms
Rooms and shared bathroom were both clean and quiet. Great for a good night's sleep. Shower was nice and hot. Bed was comfy.
No windows. Not so much light inside this hospedaje. It felt too dark. But, because there were no windows, noise from outside was non-existant. Also kept the room cool.
It's clean, quiet, and secure. They have a beautiful rooftop area. Just a short walk to 20th of November market and the zocalo.
The owner Emilio is really helpful and the hotel feels really safe with a locked gate only guests can enter. The rooms are clean with a safety deposit box, ceiling fan and wifi. The rooms also have towels and drinking water. We had a shared bathroom which was clean and separate rooms each with a toilet and shower. The hotel is in a good location on a bit of a back street but only a 10 minute walk from the market and main square 'Zocalo' and also near to the Calle Galeana where you can get the mini-bus to Puerto Escondido. Breakfast isn't included but you can get coffee for 10 pesos per person.
The family that own El Quijote were supper friendly and very helpful. All the rooms are back off the street so quiet at night. And we spent a lot of time chilling on the rooftop, rooftop was pretty basic but it was a nice private area where we could relax.
We opted for a hostel over a hotel because we wanted kitchen use and the option to cook our own meals thus keeping travel costs down... El a Quijote didn't have a kitchen for quest use.... They did bring us hot water everyday on request so we could make coffee in our room ( we supplied everything else) and we found plenty of good cheap eating places near by.
Location, security, attention of owners.
Walls were thin and could hear others.
Lovely room, good security in hotel, not too far from the plaza, cleaned room each day, new water fresh towels etc.
No TV but our booking said TV. On the morning we left, albeit not till gone 8, there was no water whatsoever so we couldn't wash and had a 22 hour bus journey ahead of us
nice bright clean rooms with safe and wall hooks, wifi signal very good, very clean, free bottled water, staff very friendly and caring
room very hot even with fan and screened window, shared bathroom should be cleaned more than once a day with so many users
lovely building and lovely people. Very safe and secure
I had a tiny window and a fan but it was too hot - not enough ventilation
Nice owners, they speaks English, good place near traditional markets, fine terrace
Bought trip wasn't fair, because waterfalls was closed and they gave us absolutely uninteresting place instead
Friendly and helpfull owners. Spacious room and bathroom.
The bus terminal in the back yard ( noise and fumes ). Fan is not enough during hot days.
Small family run place; close to mercados; not too far from Zocalo ( walking distance); Emilio is a gentleman.
Our room was very tiny; No windows at all; unfortunately a cat got into our room and my wife is allergic to cats; We found another hotel near Zocalo that was much better for only 100peso more.
Emilio and Marta are very friendly and helpful and run an excellent little hotel. It's very clean with everything you could possibly want in your room. The roof terrace is a nice place to sit in the evening and it's only a short walk to the zocalo with its cafés, bars and window on Oaxacan life. Really appreciated the complimentary coffe in the mornings!
Emelio, the owner of place was amazing, helped us a lot! Directed to non turistic places to eat and advised on things to see. Room was clean with hot shower, cleaned everyday. Very secure, felt really safe and comfortable. Locotion just on the edge of historic center, perfect for a bit of peace but not too fat from action. You can arrange tours directly from hotel or get advice how to get to destinations your way. We used both options.
Compared was a lit more expensive then others, but if you want to feel really welcome and experiance true mexico then go for it!
The assistance of Emilio and Marta who were always available . I am a Senior and had assistance whenever I needed. The security is excellent. A locked gate and locked glass door. The location is close to most things. I will definitly stay here again.
The host very friendly and nice. Very safe hotel, not far from the center, not much of noise is a great adventage
Very clean. Lovely hosts, so helpful and welcoming. Quiet location yet convenient for the centre. Would recommend to anyone.
I had a fantastic stay at El Quijote! The room was simple but very comfortable, with a ceiling fan and a nice little bathroom with plenty of hot water. The free Wi-Fi was really reliable and a free bottle of water was provided every day. There's also a nice communal terrace where you can relax and a fridge for guests to store things. But the highlight of my stay was talking to Emilio and Marta, who were always on hand to provide information about the city and places to visit. They recommended places to eat, foods to try and tours to take, and I left feeling that I'd seen the real Oaxaca thanks to their advice. The location of the property is ideal for visiting the city's markets and also for taking local buses or shared taxis to nearby attractions, such as the Mitla ruins or Tlacolula markets. It's also less than 10 minutes' walk to the Zocalo.
