The location was great. Guanajuato is a very busy city with lots going on especially on the weekends so a place that is off a quiet square and up an alley was great. The owner has many different units in a few different buildings so there is some choice for booking. He was helpful and spoke excellent English.
Though we had a suite with kitchen facilities, it was understocked….eg. no pot to boil water for cooking, few pans etc. The price we ended up paying was much more than the price quoted when booked as room prices were converted from pesos to USD. Our original quote was CAD….so with the currency fluctuation, we ended up with a larger bill than expected. a point to be aware of when booking….the quoted price is very approximate!!
Located in the center, and quiet
Paying for a hotel price when you get a room in an empty house, with absolutely no service. The "staff" was not particularly nice and not effective
super location if you want to walk around. All the tourist spots and shopping, restaurants are within easy walking distance. We stayed in one of the apartments which had its own kitchen. Really convenient.
Really hard to figure out the streets and tunnels, a nightmare trying to find the place by car at night unless you are familiar with the city.
Central location, the friendly and helpful staff, the spaciousness of the room, lots of drawers and shelves, view, decks
Street noise but starting to think that is unavoidable in guanajuato.
Very nice staff; very clean; great location; great common area roof deck with spectacular views of the city and mountains
I have a feeling sound would carry between the rooms because of a locked adjoining door (rather than a thick wall). But there was no one in that room when we stayed there so it wasn't a problem.
Spacious clean quarters very near center. I felt like I had a whole house to myself, with a full kitchen. The Zopilote is actually spread out over at least a couple of buildings. I did not eat in the cafe, but supposedly it has the best coffee in Mexico. The host was kind and handled the reservation with dispatch.
The stairs, but that is part of Guanajuato. The taxi can't go to the place, so you need to lug your luggage up flights of stairs. The place is closed Sundays, so you have to leave with your stuff and curtail your weekend. Because of the configuration of the streets, you can hear everything...one night until 4a.
Great place, we would stay there again
The accommodation location was very close to all the sights & the centro so you could walk everywhere and it also felt safe to walk around in the evening. The place had everything you could want a large kitchen, lounge area, 2 upstairs terraces and a large bedroom & bathroom. Pablo the Manager was really kind and went out of his way to help
The wifi was inconsistent
Beautifully decorated and furnished, staff very friendly and helpful above and beyond the call of duty. Location perfect, if you don't mind climbing a flight of stairs- 2 minutes from center, yet quiet.
It's a traditional place, didn't have phones in room, no tv (fine with us, but some might mind), and little cross-ventilation in our room.
El Zopilote is a charming, colorfully decorated and quite new hotel. We loved the great sleeping conditions and the Olive and Almond amenities. The breakfast was tasty and the whole ambiance very cozy in general. The owner and staff were very friendly and accommodating giving us room choices even though we arrived on a Sunday evening after booking the rooms 12 hours before. Another major plus is the great position: the hotel is located downtown and we could walk everywhere.
The town consists of many pedestrian alleys, one-way streets and underground tunnels which makes finding the hotel quite tricky by car (our GPS was lost). The hotel is located in a pedestrian only area and the closest parking is quite expensive (13MXP / hour). Alternatively, you can try leaving the car on other streets (very limited parking available). Keep in mind that this applies for all the hotels in the area!
Loved seperate dining and br and living areas.
Uphill. Difficult to access.
We were close to the plaza. The manager, Arran was terrific. Our room on the second floor was roomy with a large bathroom, and terrance just outside the door. Community kitchen and living room gave homey feeling. The room was cleaned on a daily basis.
One couple ended up on top floor, which has a spiral staircase to get up to , then the room was very small and the bathroom was very very small. They moved downstairs when it became available. A bit more info on top floor would have been helpful in the planning. Was a bit noisy with church bells, cannons, and people on the street.
Ursula was on duty when we arrived and was warm and welcoming . We stayed in a building across the courtyard , that had a kitchen , ensuite bathrooms in every room , as well as a large terrace on the roof , with panoramic views of picturesque Guanajuato and it's environs . The house was beautifully furnished with many lovely decorations , a truly memorable accommodation , complementing an unforgettable visit to the lively and friendly city of Guanajuato .
Not a thing
Excellent location. Terrific value for price. Very clean. On a quiet pedestrian plaza.
It is a unique arrangement of rooms and apartments. Luckily we had our choice and had an en-suite bathroom and light and ventilation.
We stayed in the "house" and it was perfect! We would definitely stay again. Aaron, was most helpful as was Ursala. The location is perfect.
great and helpful staff, they spoke excellent English and were very knowledgable.
We stayed in apartment which was very quiet and the bed comfortable so we slept good both nights. Hotel and apartment were only two blocks from Don Quixote museum and three blocks from main plaza/theater and many restaurants.
The location was great...just a short walk to the historic downtown area. The facilities were tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Our room was well maintained and very clean. Management and the staff were friendly and very helpful.
There was nothing not to like. We will definitely come back for another stay.
Location; helpfulness of staff; facilities, including communal kitchen, living room, and terrace; cleanliness; delicious, substantial breakfast (an additional but reasonable price).
We loved the charm of the place, simple, colorfully decorated, clean and comfortable with roomy private bath and a nice common seating/reading area outside the room. There was also a lovely roof terrace overlooking the city. Though near the historic district, it was quiet and walking to places was easy. We had emailed ahead to be picked up at the airport upon arrival and it was the owner himself who came to get us. Pretty nice and unexpected. I definitely would recommend this place and use it myself again when next in Guanajuato.
Because we arrived on a Sat night and only were there one night, there was no breakfast served Sun morning. Tired from our travel, we just would have loved that early morning first cup of coffee. Perhaps a sideboard in the lobby with coffee, at least, would have been nice.
It is not so easy to find the hotel
Good location within walking distance to attractions, friendly and knowledgeable staff.
We only stayed one night but the location was good and because it is in a little plaza, it was nice and quiet and beds good
It is not the hotels fault but the parking was hard to find and the cost for parking was $1.30 an hour (130 pesos an hour). This is the only city I know of that only offers hourly parking and no day rate. The manager was not very friendly or helpful so we left after one night and found a comparable hotel that included parking in their rate
We were a young couple and our parents in two rooms, so the shared kitchen, lounging area were good for us.
Taxi driver dropped us off at bottom of long steps and said the hotel was "up there." If I had been prepared, it would not have been so bad. We had some personal problems and didn't not find hotel staff too helpful.
