This oceanfront hotel in Playa del Carmen is located directly on the beach, one block from the famous Fifth Avenue entertainment area. The hotel offers a 24-hour front desk and free Wi-Fi.
Score from 245 reviews Good
There are plenty of Playa del Carmen hotels but few offer you a home away from home option right on the Caribbean beach and steps from world class shopping.
Score from 187 reviews Very good
The stylish SOHO PLAYA is located a quarter mile from Mamitas Beach and half a mile from Playa del Carmen Main Square, on the Riviera Maya.

The room and view (in the King Ocean front suite) was amazing. The location was great, right off the 5th Ave strip.
The staff did not go out of their way to be helpful or friendly. Also, the air did not work very good in the room. Once you leave your room you are literally bombarded and assaulted with people trying to sell you something and it is very off-putting, though not the hotel's fault. Also, no parking. We had to carry our luggage 6 blocks, there was no valet or staff to assist us.
My room was a garden view with a queen size bed and no seating inside. Room was okay, no frills, but for $300 total for 4 nights, it was as expected. Mexican cable service, Wi-Fi worked well in both the room and the restaurant. Beach right in front of the hotel was nice (no seaweed as others have noted in reviews, but some rocks). The band did indeed play every night until 12 - 1AM, but I was toward the back of the property and I could hear it but it wasn't bad. Food was good, drinks were cold, so no worries.
I didn't really not like anything. Just don't go in with expectations of luxury and you will not be disappointed. I did not look at any of the pricier rooms, but did hear they are nicer.
Good location on the beach
I suspect with the good location on the beach and the size of the property owners are trying to get as much as they can from this space, thus the identity crisis. Is it a hotel, a restarurant or a night club? it tries to be all of these and it suffers as a hotel. Beds are VERY firm (as a re pillows) and Noisey at night with live bands. My room, 16, was above the kitchen and as a result I had heated floors (nice, but not so great in a warm-hot climate). If you're in transit to Cozumel as I was, as a one nighter, sure. If you intend to stay longer, I only hope you get a better room than I did that at least gives you the option as to whether you want to participate in the night club or if you deciede you want to rest, permit you also to rest.
The garden was lovely. Good Location. Good Breakfast.
Noise from the Bar. Internet a bit erratic.
Location Nice Food Fair price
The receptionist at my check in was not helpful and had attitude The beach is not nice The rooms are small and the furniture are old Prices does not match with Booking.com price
Great location and friendly helpful staff.
As other people have commented before, just be aware that they have live music until 2am. We have an ocean view room and it was very noisy - I think a garden room would be quieter (and they're cheaper too!)
I loved the personality, ambience, and life this hotel had. It's laid back and romantic.
I loved that the hostel was right by the beach and a block away from Quinta Avenida. Enjoyed the bed, the room and the bar/restaurant on the sand. Pretty much everything about this hostel was great (rooms, reataurant, bar, staff)
Didn't like the fact that the bar had a band playing every night, which prevented me from sleeping at desired times. Lots of noise coming from the stage everyday; terrible when one is actually tired or needs to rest.
Love the location. As my room faced the garden it was quiet and calm to sleep. Personnel was very friendly and music awesome
As a beach hotel I missed hangers in the bathroom for swimmsuits and towels.
This place was truly amazing. Super friendly staff and they had the best food of anywhere we ate while in Playa. They had live music, belly dancers and a fire show every night and they were all great. I would definitely recommend booking one of the oceanfront rooms (17 & 19) if you don't mind loud music late into the night. This place is right on the beach and they have lounges with umbrellas during the day and they replace them with tables for the bar and restaurant at night. The ambiance of this place is great. It was nice to come back after a long day and just go relax at one of their lantern lit beach tables while listening to the live band. If you go to bed early, I would suggest staying in one of the garden rooms towards the back. Overall, I love this place and will be back!
The rooms are not very nice and the beds are hard. The air conditioner is way too small for the room and it does not keep it very cold. It is completely tolerable though as it keeps the room around 76 degrees. The housekeepers turns off your AC while you are out for the day so if you want your room cleaned (you will, sand from the beach follows you in everyday even if you rinse in the outside shower), expect to come back to a very hot and humid room that takes about an hour to cool back down. Be prepared to not be able to flush toilet paper. You have to wipe and throw it in the garbage. This is not a complaint so much as just a warning. There is a live band that plays every night. Our last night we tried to go to bed a little early because we had an early flight and didn't get much sleep. We didn't mind though because that was one of the things we loved about staying here on the beach front room. These things are being nit picky though and this was one of my favorite vacation experiences ever.
Fusion is good for closeness to center shopping and dinning. It has beautiful gardens. They have a restraunt and bar. It has a beach.Excellent entertainment nightly & beach front massage :)
The water at beach is unusable, as it contains an overabundance of help.Viz is horrible maybe1 foot. I came to snorkel and almost cried :( When I arrived my A/C and refrigerator were both broken :(
When we arrived after traveling 20 hours our room was over 90 degrees, AC broken, and fridge broken. We had to leave, but things were improved when we returned.Great party place for younger croud. Good service at restraunt, has free breakfast. Also provides entertainment at night.Beautiful gardens
Can't swim, way too much seaweed, horrible visibility 1 foot in water, heartbreaking.
The shower was too weak and the young recepcionist was not so helpful.
Location so central. Bar and food really good. Service a little bit slow and casual. Great entertainment every night and when back in your room - absolutely peaceful. Room sufficient with good AC. Reasonably priced.
Location was fantastic - close to the bus station, 5th ave, the beach etc. Some of the staff were lovely and helfpul. The room was clean and serviced daily. I was able to get some sleep as it wasn't too noisy like a lot of the other hotels in the area.
The chill out area on the beach changed to a bar at night so there was no where to relax without noise, smoke and paying a lot for drinks. Waitresses spent more time chattting amongst themselves than serving. I also ate at the restaurant there and spent the night throwing up. It was the food without a doubt.
Great location on the beach and close to all the shops. We had the room right over the bar overlooking the beach and the view was outstanding.
The price of drinks at the bar was quite outrageous. Most mixed drinks were around 100 pesos and beers were around 50 pesos. Most other bars around including the hotel just north of it had beers for 25 or 30 pesos. We would just hang out on the beach in front of our neighboring hotel and order drinks there.
Young woman at front desk was very pleasant and helpful.
Everything else. Room was very small with one double bed, not 2 queens or one king. Furnings were primitive with no desk or table w/ chairs. While there was cable TV it was, with the exception of one or two stations, all in Spanish. Two weeks earlier I stayed at the Condohotel Fabiola which I booked through you and was A+ and 1/3 less the price.
Meals were excellent! As well as drinks. Coffee and soda on the expensive side. Band played on nightly and a fire show.
No valet parking. Public parking lots full and closed. Private parking around the corner cost 20$ US a day. Took a taxi to my car.
Everything was amazing! Right in front of the beach, good food, walking distance to 12th street. Just perfect
Simple place with a great atmosphere.
