There is lots to Akumal not just a restaurant and a little beach. There are beaches, many different restaurants and cenotes. Tami and Elliot will help you understand the taxi system and also how to hop the combis (Public van service) that are cheap and easy to use. They are not chicken busses. There are cenotes everywhere. Some very tiny and some meandering through the jungle. An easy one is Cenote Azul. No real snorkeling but a beautiful place. Charge $10 dollars or much better rate if you pay on pesos. Use pesos as often as possible. Get pesos from the ATMs they have the best conversion rate. The condo beach is a bit of a walk, it who doesn’t need walking, but the cenote flows out into the ocean. Great a snorkeling. Big variety of fish. You can see the transition layer between fresh and salt water. I think our favorite place where we went twice was La Buena Vida restaurant on Akumal beach and after dinner walk up the beach And hitchhiking a golf cart ride back to the highway for a taxi ride ride north back to Sirenis. Most everyone speaks tolerable English but be respectful and learn some rudimentary Spanish like bathroom, beer, check please, thank you and please. Whew. Can you tell we had a great eight day trip?

It was a good place for our troop to convene - 7 in all. We had some fun - particularly at the shows. The food was good but not great. The staff was great. The beach was a disappointment - full of seaweed and rocky. Trucks on the beach at 7am sunrise a big turnoff. I would not return unless the beach situation improves.

I didn't spend time in Akumal proper- most of the time was on the resort, but there seemed to be a LOT of options for activities on that stretch of road between Tulum and Playa del Carmen, so as a starting point, finding a resort in Akumal is a great location. My friend and I took a 30min taxi to Playa del Carmen and a 20min ride to swim with dolphins. We also went with the wedding party to Tulum and a cenote which was gorgeous and that trip was very short as well. Lots to do in the area!

The town has its own beaches and a lagoon, you can swim with turtles, rays and lots of fish. Cenotes are all over the place. Playa del Carmen and Tulum are only 25 mins away by car. Most visit kentun-chi!!!!

Quiet and lovely.
Quiet and lovely. Minimal restaurants nearby but enough to keep it interesting. LOL-HA, Jungla Cafe and La Lunita were my favs.
Turtle beach was also very nice, but would be a long-ish walk from Del Sol during the heat of the day
Amazing food, a'la carte restaurants, drinks and Service. Hotel Beach very nice located. Stuff do really great job there. They make sure you have all you need all the time. What also made our vacation special was entartaiment team! Great thanks for Victor for amazing morning joga and also Anahi, Valentino, Gustavo and others for lot of fun activities. Their Energy and Creativity for sure makes this place special. Hotel itself is beautifull place but great People working there is for sure the main reason for us to comeback there soon!!!!
Villa Akumal is a great place for a comfortable stay in an intimate and quiet place. I was pleasantly surprised to see how close the apartment is to the beach. Staff at check-in very nice and polite. Private beach, very clean. Only a few sun loungers. It gives a great sense of comfort. Apartament are very spacious. My apartament have garden view but the rest apartament from the street side have only two windows. So remember, check what you are booking. You will avoid disappointment.
The resort is very beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The room, once we changed from 2 doubles to a king was luxurious, comfortable and quiet. It felt secure. We had a nice view of the greenery. The a la carte meals were absolutely 5 star fantastic. Drinks were simple and tasty. We enjoyed the beach volleyball and waterpolo. We never had trouble getting an ideal spot on the beach or pool side. Tulum is much more beautiful than the other parts of this hotel in my opinion.
Casa Coral is a very good example of a well-managed property in Akumal. Right at the beach and if you’re lucky you might have the chance to meet a turtle on the beach laying eggs or watch the little ones paddle to the sea. Every condo has its own pool that is perfect for a dip after spending time in the sun ☀️ The neighborhood is private, quiet with several privately owned villas. There is also a wonderful restaurant, Jungle Fish, very close to the property!
Wow!
🥇WHAT A HOTEL!!!🥇
What an awesome hotel!
Everything was just GREAT and AWESOME!
The service in this hotel was VIP class!
- one concierge per bulding - several rooms,
- transportation around the resort,
Several restaurants: mexican, Italian, french, steak house, etc.
The food was VERY tasty, always fresh.
Rooms was very very clean and cleaned twice a day!
In room service - alcohol, dishes, breakfasts, almost everything!
To HAVE TO STAY HERE!!!
We stayed for four nights, and had a great time. The hotel is around a 15-20 min walk from the beach and it's easy to get to Tulum/Playa/Cenotes via either colectivos or a taxi service nearby. The laundry service was very helpful - we dropped off our clothes in the morning and by the evening they were ready. Room had AC and a fan, so kept us cool overnight. The breakfast on the roof by the pool was definitely a highlight!
It is not modern but I value the charm and character more. Beach front is great, better if you are ground floor. Email contact with staff was attentive. Sargassum was very low end of Nov. Half moon bay is a nice close by alternative to Akumal, away from all the tour groups and hustlers. There are very few restaurants in the area but some of the best value ones are located just a few mins walk from this property.
It was really good! I don’t consider this a 5 star resort though. some things felt cheap. The drinks and the food were good but not great. Same with the room. The pools are fantastic and there is plenty of room. Service was always good. Just not quite 5 star. This is more or less a typical all inclusive.
Fantastic location right at the beach, secluded, beautiful, quiet, clean swimming pools- our baby enjoyed a little one! We saw small turtles hatching at the beach and plenty of corrals and fish to the right from the hotel while snorkelling. We had an ocean view villa and it was above and beyond stay.
Very friendly staff, sea turtles just a few minutes swim off the beach, great dive shop (Akumal Dive Center) right next to hotel and good restaurant on property (Lol-Ha). Beach got a bit busy with people but nothing bad, was good to see everyone enjoying the beach and the turtles.
The hotel is great in many ways. Beautiful grounds woven into the natural environment, with a fantastic pool, large kids area and a nice beachfront. While there were many guests, the hotel is ample and it didn't feel crowded. The food is diverse and there are many great options.
The resort was all inclusive with several restaurants and wide food selection. Most of the staff at the restaurants were attentive. The resort had multiple pools with a lazy river and had daily activities including a dolphin show and nightly dance shows.
The infinity pool, cafe, staff, entertainment, tennis lesson and bike tour, golf cart connection between Tulum and Akumal resorts,
Mexican restaurants in Akumal and Tulum, seafood restaurant, hotel application for booking activities and restaurants
Its a little slice of luxury made small. This does not apply to the rooms, beds or pool! The staff goes out of their way to accommodate the best possible experience with the food, communication and options for transportation to the beach and back.
Resort of my dreams. I was hesitating at first because of the price but after being there i can say it was all worth it. the resort is so big and has so many things like the dolphin area and the lazy river i don’t think any other hotel has.
Being located inside the Gran Bahia Principe resort in Akumal is the selling point here and being able to buy all-inclusive day passes at a cheap price to any of their 4 resorts on the grounds.
The beach was the best feature in this property. It definitely has one of the best beaches in the area. The property also has several pools. The hotel staff was very nice and accommodating.
