Still trying to find something positive...
The place was hard to find, no lights or visible sign at night. It took 10 minutes to the guy at the reception to open my door with the magnetic card and i had to keep it unlocked after that. There was no drinking water and I had to beg to get 2 classes of the water that was reserved for the personnel. I managed to sleep an hour or two as my room was located 10 feet from a noisy street. Overall, my experience was deceiving.
Hostel Regina was one of the three hostels we stayed in Mexico. We stayed for two nights. The location was superb, with only a few blocks to zocalo and right at the corner of a busy bar/restaurants street. You will easily find plenty of choices from street food (a must try street food stand right cross the front door) , to cafe, to several convenience stores. There is a very cute roof top Terrance and at night it transforms into a bar, packed with folks. We really loved the breakfast spot, not for the food, since it was only one bread and coffee. We loved the decor and how interestingly odd to have a breakfast in a night bar type of joint. The staff were super friendly at the spot.
Two things we didn't enjoy our stay. One was the wifi sucked. Nearly no wifi. Both of our iPads didn't pick up any signal. In order to use the three desk tops, one needs to deposit the passport to borrow the mouse. The desktops were not fast either and if you relied on the Internet, I suggest use outside cafes to help you. The second was the loudness. Maybe it was just during our stay or our room facing the street. The walls were not sound proof at all. All the crazy laughters from next door and the rock and roll music from the bar street kept us up all night. We had very poor rest. Having said that, we are early 30 year old couple. If you were younger and single, this might suit you much better.
Central place, interesting design. They can also call you a taxi to the airport for a good price. Quiet.
There is no common hanging out area where people would hang out together. This function is served by a couple of desks with PCs. Showers had cold air and could use more cleaning. Maybe it's an idea to re-paint the walls once per year, as the somehow people leave all those black marks from their suitcases on the walls (or no clue how). Poor breakfast: one piece of pastry and watery coffee.
It's a great hostel to be at! Near to Zocalo and a really cool street (Calle Regina) full with bars and restaurants.
The breakfast could be better, but it was ok.
Staff where great and helpful! The roof top bar and the location where great!
Was a bit loud at night
Kínd staff, clean, excellent location, good environment, nice colors, safe.
Very clean, and with a rocking rooftop bar. Staff were very helpful with directions and arranging cheap airport transfers
The rooftop bar was quite loud in the evenings but it did stop around midnight. The breakfast is pretty average but hey, its free.
The location was great. The staff was kind and helpful, there were never any problems when you asked for something. Check in and out was quick and flexible.
It was really noisy. It took a while before toilet paper was added when it ran out. The electricity didn't work in all the sockets so we had one that worked although we had a large room. The "safe" was behind the reception, but it was just a piece of paper with a note on it, aka better leave your valuables in your room.
Hotel had nice decor and the restaurant/bar and facilities were really nice.
My friend woke up in the morning covered in bedbug bites, when she told staff at the front counter the following afternoon (we went to teotihuacan early in the morning) all he said was he was surprised we didnt tell him earlier and that they had received another complaint and the room was now closed. We were the only people in the room so they must have been aware of the bed bugs and still put us in there. I did notice half the mattresses were flipped up and leaning against the beds but didnt think much of it until we realised there were bed bugs. I understand that hostels can get bed bugs from time to time but it was bad practice to put us in that room with prior knowledge - lazy and uncaring on behalf of the staff.
+ Close to the city centre + Helpful staff
+ Poor wifi connection
Clean bathrooms, big rooms, great location near the Zocala and restaurants.
They couldn't print my boarding pass as I had read in a previous review.
Excellent location, Tasty food ("desayunos de cortesia" OK, fantastic breakfast meals on order - very reasonably priced Mexican cuisine), Very helpful personnel, Computers for guests in the lobby (WiFi accessible mainly in the lobby)
Staff. Local stores. Local metro.
The free breakfast was just a piece of bread and coffee. Every time we asked the staff something about where to go or where something was they either didn't know or told us the completely wrong direction.
The Price for young guys coming from others countries
Just de WI fi, saturated!!!
nice building, location, roof top terrace
All of the above and nice beds. Very convenient location near the airport. Staff was helpful and friendly. They even printed my boarding pass.
I didn't bring a lock so wish they had lockers that lock or padlocks you could use. Yes, it was noisy at night (outside) but this was to be expected given the great location.
Great location. Clean and shared bathrooms were kept clean.
Misleading description on Booking. Airport shuttle, actually means - taxi. Securtiy deposit box in room means - wooden cupboard, bring a padlock. Wifi, only works occasionally - if the router is ever working. Of the 3 guest computers, only functioned properly. Door of the room are glass paneled, so you have light beaming through until they are dimmed slightly at 01.00 a.m. Also the balcony doors are glass paneled so you get the street lights shining through, as the curtians go only half way down the window/glass door. We had very little sleep, what with the light and noise in the street. Upstairs has a roof terrace bar, but good luck finding someone to staff it. Of the staff on reception, only had any clue about anything. Be aware, cost of 'schuttle' quoted by reception will differ from what you will be charged. In summary, after 6 months of travel through Central America on a budget, this was the worst run of all.
a bit loud in the evening with the music from the downstairs restaurant but otherwise awesome
