More restroom should be better
This is a affordable and nice hostel only a ten minute walk to the city center. Can't beat the price for $20 U.S. dollars a night I had my own private room that I could lock plus a continental breakfast.
It is a nice, clean And cozy place. The breakfast is good And the staff is friendly.
The bathrooms and showers were clean. I would have prefered the bathrooms and showers closer to the room.
Good location (min walk from the city center), quiet street, clean facilities, friendly staff, free breakfast, rooftop patio
Bathrooms and showers
Friendly staff, located on a beautiful street 5min north of the main square
Outside bathrooms - while pretty, not so fun in the colder night/morning. Also the toilet smelled - clearly well-maintained, but probably just a consequence of throwing toilet paper in the bin and not the toilet
Hospitality here is beyond reproach. The owners go out of their way to help make your stay the best it can be. Be sure to ask for suggestions from Carlos for eating, sightseeing, etc., because he knows how to steer you right. For maximum fun, try to visit SMA over the weekend because it's a much more festive atmosphere then ... and not really overcrowded at all. Beds are very comfy and there's kitchen/refrigerator accommodations for cooking ... although with the wonderful, inexpensive eating places in the city, I don't know why anyone would want to prepare food at the hostel. (food tip: the market is a couple blocks away and has terrific fondas for eating; the best shrimp cocktail I've had in a long time can be found there, for $70 p for giant size.) At the hostel you get coffee, toast and cereal included for breakfasts. Not much else to say, except that it's a bargain for such a clean, comfy place so close to the Centro.
Would like a small bedside reading light. A fan in the room would be helpful.
Very friendly and helpful young owners.
The overall environment was very congenial. Carlos spoke a bit of english and was super accommodating.breakfast (was included cereal coffee toast)was served to you in a common area at the front of the hostel, which also served as a great common area to hang out or use the computer. my room was equipped with a place to hang clothes and a tv. I needed an extra chair which was accommodated for me to serve as a bedside table. I'd stay there again.
the fact that the bathroom was down the hall and out the back, but for the showers I needed to go upstairs. my room was off the kitchen, the one window I had was to the inside hall. It wasn't as bad as I initially thought.
Very comfortable and clean new hostel with big, comfortable beds, super lovely owners and brilliant location, all for a very reasonable price. Felt like owners are making a big effort to make this place a great experience for their guests.
Could do with separate bathroom sinks from toilets to wash face / brush teeth etc.
We especially enjoyed the hospitality of our hosts. They made us feel very much at home. We liked the nice clean, quiet surroundings and it's proximity to the center of town. Thanks for a wonderful visit.
I liked La Catrina so much I am still here! Hosts Carlos and Luisa are so friendly and helpful. I feel truly welcome. The place is brand new and spotless. I have been traveling for 6 weeks in Mexico and stayed in a lot of hostels. This is the first one where I didn't complain about the lumpy pillow! I am in the 4-bed female only dorm. Bunk beds are sturdy so I haven't been woken up by bunkmates coming to bed at different times. Great lockers under the beds and a small locker and reading light to store personal items. You can tell the owners really thought of the small details that would make travelers comfortable and secure. The location is fabulous--close to the wonderful bibliotieca on one of the quieter downtown streets, sort of on the middle of the big hill that hosts San Miguel, so it's not too much of a walk up or down to see the attractions in either direction. Definitely stay here. You will be quite happy you chose La Catrina.
I was so happy with La Catrina Hostel - my best stay in mexico to date. Luisa and Carlos could not have been more helpful ... They gave me coffee at all hours; provided maps, excellent directions, great ideas for things to see; and were just so warm and friendly!! They said - and I truly felt - that I was like family. And all this plus low cost, for the traveler who wants a clean and comfy place to stay.
- Owners are really kinds. - Breakfast and small collations are good and typical. - Great location in the city center (do not get confused by google map! ), near the artisanal market.
- the room near the kitchen was a bit noisy
