Outside of the main town area makes del Doctor a quiet getaway. Loved being able to walk right out front to the beach each morning. The place is simple as you would expect thatch roofed cabanas to be. However, the quality of these accommodations when paired with location and price, can't be beat in Mahahual
Currently the city is redoing the road right in front of the property which created a little noise in the mornings. This will be over soon and was only a minor distraction
Big, beautiful cabanas. Right on the beach. Close to many nice restaurants and stores.
The bar next door was quite loud but that isn't the fault of this establishment - just beware.
It was more like a hotel. Really clean and tidy. Clse to the centre even tought not right in the middle. Would recommend it.
Wifi didn't work
It's out of town, peaceful and just far enough from the crowds on cruise ship days. Comfortable rooms, bed, shower was great (in the rooms in the new building).
The road is not great from town, but we walked mostly, so not too affecting. Restaurant is so-so.
Las Cabanas is a unique place to stay, almost like a motor lodge. There are vacancies, then there aren't. Travelers can arrive at any time up until about 11:00pm. It is located off the beaten path where campers can pitch a tent on the beach in front. Very safe and accomodating. Mahahual is beautiful and worth visiting.
Finding it is a bit difficult, but after that it's all good. Even though there is a small outside restaurant with cold beer on the property, you have to walk up the sandy road to get more variety. Things close early.
The view from my room was good. The older gentleman who showed me around was extremely warm and welcoming.
My room wasn't very clean. I pulled back the sheet to find a lot of sand and hairs of various types in between. As the room was midway between a cabana and a hotel room, mosquitos got in easily, but there was no net for protection, so I got bitten a lot.
Proximity to the beach.
Extremely quaint. No a/C. I was a awakened at 5am by the sound of Salsa (full blast)... There are much better accommodations in the area for a little bit more $.
Location was great. Price wasn't right....especially for all holiday weekend
Spotlessly clean and very comfortable room (we stayed in one of the buildings, not a cabana), great value for the money. Pleasant and helpful staff.
Not dislikes as such, but things to be aware of: the sea in front of the hotel is not swim-worthy (way too shallow), but the nearest good beach is about ten minutes' walk. Also be very careful walking in the dark: my husband almost stepped on a coral snake. Carry a flashlight!
My partner and I were on a budget and this was the only cheap place we could find in Mahahual
I got bed bugs! I told the staff and they weren't very helpful about it at all
