WE went with one purpose: to see the Monarch Butterflies.
WE went with one purpose: to see the Monarch Butterflies. We were careful to plan our trip to include a sunny day as that is when the Monarchs fly around. If cloudy or overcast they tend to roost in the fir trees and just look like dried leaves. WE had a car so drove to the reserve and took the horses 1/2 way up and walked the rest of the way. The trip was very difficult and I would not recommend it to anyone who has mobility of breathing problems. We were rewarded with seeing thousands of them flying around int he sunshine. An Amazing experience. After the butterflies we returned to our hotel and the next day took it easy, having a massage and going into town to look around. In town there is a very fine crafts museum that is well worth seeing. We stayed one additional day in hopes of visiting some nearby pueblos. However, we were told there were no pueblos so we just wanders around town for another day. We should have cut the trip to 3 days. Warning: the roads in town are narrow, steep, and cobblestone. Valle is a great place, I go often. The only problem right now is that the whole downtown area is under construction. Be aware of this before you go, I am sure once the construction work is done everything will be fine.

Nice hotel in town square. Friendly staff, but be careful, someone went through our bags and took money and headphones. Manger just denied it. Police report made but no results. There is no safe in the rooms.

Such an atmospheric town. Lots of lovely shops to explore and a fascinating market. The waterfalls and the butterfly sanctuary are amazing but you need to leave a whole day for the butterfly sanctuary.

Our hosts were very welcoming and attentive to what we might need during our stay. For an extra fee of $500 pesos they had kayaks available for rent which our family really enjoyed using over the weekend. The house has a lovely hammock hung between the trees where we could relax and read. We also enjoyed watching the sunset over the lagoon from the balcony while drinking a nice wine. Overall we would recommend Don Polo’s property and return again.RhianonMexico

The bedroom was spacious and clean, very comfortable for our family of 4. The kids were really happy they had an awesome play area. The amenities were great, the pool is heated so even if its cold you can use it. The restaurant is really good, had an amazing breakfast buffet! There was a spa, but unfortunately didn’t get to go, hopefully next time for sure!!!
