Really missed not being able to buy an ice cream item without going to the Ave. Hope the new renovations have more food eating choices.
Great to see Willy and Balam . Fantastic service

The nightclub on the neighboring property.

The public areas of the hotel (restaurant, pool, beach area) are dated and need updating. The buffet selections aren't the best. The beach is also pretty eroded which doesn't leave a lot of room for chairs, so it gets crowded.
The location was very close to the main shopping and dining street in Playa, which was very convenient as we didn't have to take a taxi anywhere. The room was also very spacious, recently renovated, and well decorated.

The only downside is the beach itself which isn't great, mostly because of the algae problem and the sulfur smell coming from the mangrove trees (so I hear) which can be quite unpleasant at times. And the incessant bass sound coming from the southside hotel (Mamitas) could also be a nuisance although we quickly got used to it.
Las Palapas has the friendliest, most professional and courteous staff. Our "cabana" was roomy, clean and beach front! The food was amazing and diverse. We loved the location: close to the action of 5th Avenida, but far enough away from the general craziness of Playa del Carmen.

I would have preferred typical Mexican food, especially fish, instead of the buffet. The food was very good though.
The setting of the palapas in the garden with direct access to the lovely beach
March 16, 2015
In the room was humidity and a stink. Beds were small and the whole room was downhill. Many mosquitoes and bugs. AC didn't work good, so we had too hot in the room every night.
Meal was delicious (breakfasts and dinners - awesome)! Hotel is very close to center (5th avenue). Staff were helpful especially Hugo and Fabricio.

We liked everything, the hotel was very beautiful, food was great and wonderful beach with palm trees, the staff was very friendly & cheerful! The best hotel in this area & am happy to recommend it to everybody!

the NOISE DURING THE HOLE DAY from outside (a kind of 'music' -DRUMS etc)
The location, the meal, the service - the atmosphaire of ten 60- ies
January 27, 2015
Food was not good. Mostly overcooked or kept warm for too long.
Beautiful location with bungalows in a park like setting and direct beach access
January 20, 2015
loved the individual cabanas and the beautifully kept gardens, a real heaven.

The promised wifi didn't work in the rooms, so I had to go into the lobby if I needed to get onto the internet. The beach club next door was noisy in the afternoons and evenings, although we did receive an email warning us that there would be a music festival going on and we could change our reservations.
The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Everyone from the waitstaff at the beach bar and restaurant to the concierge went out of their way to be helpful. The setting was beautiful, I loved waking up to birds chirping in the morning. The room was a good size and had everything I needed, and I loved the outdoor shower. Restaurant food varied between average and very good.

Hard to find any negative things about this hotel!
It was truly an amazing place - we felt like we were living in the middle of the jungle in the beautiful bungalows. The food was great!

The hotel gave us a heads up of nearby music festivities however it was not music that we heard from 10am to 12am..it felt like a boom boom loud vibration that gave us no peace and huge headaches for 3 of our 5 days. The noise is unbearable, each morning awaken by cars and early workers banging and at night loud music and loud people partying to pass 1am so sleeping was close to impossible. There was not enough lounge chairs on the beach to accommodate hotel guest cause they offer day passes to walk ins. Although the hotel addressed it our toilet still didn't flush properly, we had use a bucket to fill water to put into the toilet to flush it.
We loved the staff at breakfast and dinner..they were extremely hard working and made our meals enjoyable. We love that the beach is so close.

1) Noise from Mamitas Beach Club next door was always in the background, and Concert season there is just beginning. 2) No TV, 3) No in room WiFi, 4) No refrigerator in room, 5) No phone in room to communicate to front desk,
Just spent 6 wonderful days and enjoyed it very much. Staff were all very friendly and attentive, no exceptions. Location is the best on Playa Beach and a 5 minute walk to the main street, 5th. Palapas are really cool with large patios and hammocks, grounds are tropical and exceptional, Food was excellent (new chef 2 months ago), old food reviews were just ok, loved the entertainment every other night at dinner (top notch). For a special treat as Willie (waiter captain) to do his "Mayan Coffee Show" for you at your table, it was spectacular!!!. concierge was very helpful booking tours,etc..., on site Spa. Lunch Palapa Bar, Pool, Outdoor Dining area in the sand under Palm trees with Ocean view, Beach Bar, and beach Palapas is the best combination on this stretch of beach. Other mega resorts (vegas on the sand) are gross and can't hold a candle to the unique charm of this hotel. If you are looking for five star with all resort amenities and creature comforts this is not you place, but it is really great to still have an old style beach hotel that is a manageable size with character and great service. In spite of some of the negatives we enjoyed it so much we plan to return with our family soon.

Bathrooms definetely not 5 Star Standard. Old and worn down room, beds made of concrete, etc. Definetely not the standard one would expect from a 5 Star hotel at that rate!
Near Quinta and directly located on the beach

The hotel is a great place to be at in playa del Carmen if you are looking to disconnect from the world but still have the ability to walk around get to knw the town a bit more. The private beach and the staff are wonderful. They accommodated each of our needs and their friendliness made it feel like home. I would recommend this place to couples and groups of friends that want to relax.

there is a beach club nearby that makes some noise in the afternoon.
location, food, facilities.
September 28, 2014
Generally poor capability in English, dinner in included half board was really poor. The lunch menue is ok but the swap was very unfavorable for the guest (in terms of value).
September 10, 2014
The hotel really needs updating, everything was a little 'tired' and dated. The food was not particularly special and a bit too westernised for me. I thought that the Beach Club next door would be noisy but it was actually ok.
Location was excellent. So nice to have the lounges and facilities right on the beach. Compared to other beachfront resorts in the immediate area, Hotel Las Palapas has the nicest beach. The resort is fairly quiet and you can escape the 'madness' of Fifth Avenue. It is the best of both worlds.

check in staff during the hours we arrived ( 1-2 pm) the other scheduled staff was wonderful, especially the concierge. we were totally ignored for 10 mins waiting for check in as staff AND MANAGER talked over room issues...not even a welcome. Then they gave us a room that was not ready and we had to go back to reception. At this point we asked for a manager that refused to talk to us. never contacted us. No cold water in bathroom faucet.

Food wasn't very tasty
Great for families Secure Individual attention, not mass tourism Helpful staff
June 19, 2014
The fans in the room old have been wonderful if they had real mosquito curtains over and around the lovely plug topped king bed. The fabrics used looked great but the air from the ceiling fan could not penetrate so we had to use the AC.
we loved the individual palapas accomodations . So often great places like this have been replaced by mega hotels. the rooms were spacious clean comfortable and service excellent. Thw hotel used to be about he only hotel in plya but now it is surrounded by ever larger properties squeezing more and more into less and less space. the half board which was included made the experience even more wonderful. Catch this unique hotel before it two gets snatched and becomes just another mega hotel

Beach was a town beach too busy too many boats city beach feel
Food in other hotel was better next door than laspalagos
May 7, 2014
Dinner / lunch was a bit hit and miss - it wasn't very authentic tasting and a bit overpriced.
Lovely gardens, pool, beach and bar areas. Hammocks on the terrace were great. Clean room. Friendly and helpful staff. Nice breakfast selection.

There was nothing I didn't like. Hope to go again with an ocean view room...There is no air conditioning here; so if it is something you require this is not the place for you. They did however have standard floor fans along with ceiling fans.
Very relaxing. Excellent service. There wasn't a spa on sight but they were able to bring in a massage for couples on the beach (great massage but very over priced). Rooms were clean, bottle water was provided and staff was very accommodating.
