Two lights were completely out in the room when we checked in; bulbs had to be replaced. The bellmen showed us absolutely nothing in the room (lights, heating, etc.). There was no channel guide in the room or breakfast menu. Maid service was extremely inconsistent. They did not even change the sheets for three entire days. We had to repeatedly request that they finally change them. The maid acted as if she did not understand me (even when I spoke in Spanish). I had to complain to he front desk before anything was done (ie - cleaning out the bathtub, wiping the floor, replacing glasses, dusting...it was pretty ridiculous, actually, considering the claim that this is a fine hotel). The man seemed irritated by the complaint, which told me all I needed to know. It's one of those places where they are afraid to offend their employees, though it's perfectly fine to offend paying guests. The attendants were clearly untrained, lazy, and possibly even high/inebriated (one was really out of it and looked completely disoriented). The room service attendants were very friendly, but some of the orders were messed up and they would forget items I had clearly requested and then not return with them (but more often than not, they did return). They never refunded me when they had promised to do so; I didn't even bother requesting that the charges be removed again at check out because the woman was abrupt. Food is average, not at all the gourmet experience they tout. I actually got food poisoning from a dinner I ate which took days to go away. Worst part was the last day; the woman at check out was downright rude (to everyone, not just me). The bellman was a joke - he kept disappearing and did not even help us to the car. Disappointing.
Room had a nice but not very practical decor, although it was small. Bathroom was nice, large, and well appointed. Massages were fabulous; the spa is by far the star of this place: very professional and gracious people working there. Overall a very relaxing, serene, and peaceful oasis in San Miguel. They have a lot of serious kinks to work out, however, and it seems as if the new owner is not helping matters in the least.
