Shower was salt water but not too bad.
The beach, the beach, the beach!!

We enjoyed our meals at the restaurant (b-fasts, lunch, dinner) but I would suggest using some artisan or ethnic, local breads to make the included b-fast more interesting--especially at this price-point. We enjoyed the coffee, fresh-squeezed juice, homemade jam, and assorted fruit plates the most at breakfast.
Spectacular beach location with atmospheric palapa-roof cabanas. Friendly and accommodating staff. Beautiful natural landscaping; off-street gated parking at complex.

This was our second stay at Mestizo. We love it there. The whole staff is so accommodating and friendly. The beach is fantastic and it is so clean. We love Mestizo and will go back again.

Patchy wifi, expensive for value, apartments are clean but very basic.
Location, beach, quiet place

Staff was awesome and very accommodating!!

Wi-fi was free, but rather spotty--couldn't always get a connection.
All around fantastic place w/ amazinig staff, great bungalows, gorgeous beach and nice personal touches. Already planning another trip next year and will for sure stay at Mestizo again.

Mestizo has a rustic charm, however it feels as though it hasn't been updated (or thoroughly cleaned) since it first opened... Which leaves one wondering where all the money goes as it's very expensive for what it is. We stayed next door with far better, cleaner facilities for almost half the price.
Excellent location (Mostly) lovely staff Beach area is beautiful Exceedingly strong margaritas!

For the price, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect a minimal cooked breakfast as an option instead of just a continental (with cold toast but delicious fruit platter).
Lovely private cabanas- feel like you're the only ones there. Taxi stop just outside.

Our experience staying at Mestizo was first-rate in every way. The staff was unfailingly helpful and welcoming. The view from our bungalow was postcard-ready. The vibe is relaxed, never stuffy, secluded but not isolated. This place just hits all the sweet spots.

Room comfort is very basic, the permanent pee smell In the toilets is very Unpleasant. Shower does not work well and you can have salted see water only, even to clean your teeth. Room said to have a view on the garden has in fact a view on the parking. Definitely much too expensive for what you get.
Very friendly staff. Amazing beach

Property is intimate, clean and the room was great - for the 4 of us we had 3 queen beds with a lot of space. Tiny bathroom but clean. Staff was very friendly and the property was great - we could see the beach from our cabana. No AC but 2 ceiling fans and stand up fan.

ocean was too rough for swimming, so would have loved a pool
beautiful location, helpful friendly staff. much quieter than hotels closer to town.
March 16, 2015
Not a full door on bathroom. Not great with a family of four. Screen doors have gaps.
Great beach, view, breakfast, staff.

The bed was a bit too firm for my liking.
We loved this hotel so much!! Its a boutique hotel with a rustic, authentic feel. Its not swanky at all, and pretty far down the road from alot of action of Tulum which was perfect for us because we desperately needed relaxation and seclusion. I would recommend this hotel for people looking to get away from it all. The ocean view/beach front rooms are where its at for sure. The breeze from the ocean keeps away the mosquitos and you can sit and stare at the ocean all day! The restaurant is underrated for sure, we tried so many things and all was delicious and reasonably priced. Drinks are reasonable as well! You really dont have to leave this hotel for much. I'd recommend stopping at the Walmart in Playa del Carmen on your way down (we did) and we picked up alot of our own beer/booze. We would absolutely stay here again!!

Beautiful location and tranquil property. Very friendly and attentive staff. Very unlike the tourist-weary staff we encountered elsewhere.
March 8, 2015
We loved the unique rooms and the ground, nice lush gardens everywhere. The staff were always helpful and meet our every need (which were many) The beach front was large and never felt crowded.

Did not think it was $300 a night but, I would stay there again
Not in middle of everything

Best place ever for our family. I loved the staff, I loved the location, I loved my cabana. It was so good.

rooms, bathroom need major remodeling.

One bad night of loud music from an adjoining property.
Proximity to the beach and biosfar

This is the place to forget everything. We stayed 3 nights, which was perfect to relax & forget allmost everything. The romantic beach with its fine white sand and swing bed is great for beach wedding & honeymoon. We had a beautiful room just behind the ocean front rooms with a floor of tree trunk slices. After waking up we just saw the ocean through the windows. They told us, that they close in may for renovations. We hope, that they keep the atmosphere just like it is, cause we want to come back for sure!

The beds were firm, but a bit lumpy/uncomfortable for my taste. Our room's bathroom windows (with no glass) faced the restaurant, so it had the potential to be awkward - though the sound of the ocean and chatter from conversation usually helped us feel at ease. Continental breakfast is included, but we ended up ordering cooked breakfast since we needed more calories and protein.
Mestizo is straight-forward and felt authentic to the culture. Most of the staff spoke at least a little English, but otherwise was happy to allow us to practice our Spanish. They were warm and accommodating. We were upgraded from a jungle view to ocean view room, located next to the restaurant. Room was large, and like many hotels in the area, had many windows that were just screens ( no glass). Great for ventilation, not for sounds. Beach was about 20 steps away from our door. Food was pretty good, though some nearby places were a bit better. Price and value was excellent and it had a nice relaxed, un-pretentious vibe.
