The seaweeds that clearly ruin the beach▪ The fact that the meals are not described in details and the waiters do not really know what is inside the dishes or worst they pretend to know but in the end u end up eating something u cannot ... If u have allergies ..careful and ask with insistence
The breakfast, the 2 swimming pool, the diner (not a buffet) the hotel is near from the 5th avenue
I liked the layout of the resort The meal plan and the meals The close proximity to 5th Ave and the attractions The staff were friendly and helpful Happy hour was great So much nicer than a big hotel resort
Probably the same at most places, but we did not get a spot by the pool except when I grabbed a couple of lounges before breakfast. The bed pillows were too fat. We did not get a palapa as we requested, but gave us an ocean view instead. Willing to move us though, so was okay. No snorkeling from the beach.
The staff and other guests were friendly and many staff genuinely seemed happy to see us each day. The food was excellent; perfect for us. Not too many choices in the buffets and not too much food in the entrees. Perfect location for walk to shopping and restaurants. VERY relaxing and beautiful grounds.
Perfect location, great service and facilities. Will come there again!
Wifi only available in the lobby. Yes we were on vacation but we needed to communicate with other family and friends also on vacation in the area. Also we would like to post pictures of our vacation.
Great location, great resort. Breakfast was fantastic with the ocean views. Dinners were ok.
It was our first trip to Mexico and, as such, our first visit to the Mahekal. Everything was first rate from the intimacy of the palapas to the food to the friendliness of the staff (especially Regelio!) to the cleanliness of the beach. If you want a huge all-inclusive go to Cancun or to many of the other all-inclusives in Playa del Carmen. Or go to Las Vegas, for that matter. But if you want something personal and kind to all senses, the Mahekal is perfect.
There can be a wafting odor at time of sewage. Wifi is frustratingly slow and often unusable.
Staff is wonderful. Also, loved the redone rooms.
Occasional odor comes from somewhere, but didn't really disturb us. We did get a Glade air freshener for the room.
Great location, right off 5th Ave. We could hear the ocean waves from our room. WiFi only in the hotel lobby, which could be good or bad depending on what you are expecting.
Terrible smell near the beach and the beach was not there. Apparently has erroded
The size of resort and the style, mattresses, water pressure, food was gourmet
No hot showers
Friendly courteous staff
Service was just fair. Some guys, like our pool guy "Flaco" was personable, helpful, and fun; but at other times it was like the wait staff were deaf. Ask for coffee or a refill and they never come back. The worst part of the trip was the free WIFI. Come on, folks, it's 2015. And saying "it's Mexico" doesn't cut it. I have a beach vacation rental condo in Playa and my internet is faster and more reliable that at this resort. Plus, it is only available in the hotel lobby, not a the pools or the restaurants, and certainly not in the rooms. Thus, the lobby was always crowded with people and their connected devices. When you could connect, the service was so slow that my emails wouldn't even populate into my inbox. When I needed something, I just walked a block inland to Piola restaurant, which has fast and free wifi, and a darn good basil martini, too. Also, our hot water went away one night. They had been pounding all day in the next room, so I presumed it was something to do with that. I mentioned to front desk, but it was only luke warm the next morning, and despite mentioning it again, we never got truly hot water for our last 2 nights. Staff non-responsive and non-communicative was annoying... almost as annoying as the knocks on the doors starting as early as 8:30am -- really? it's not a business hotel, folks, people are on vacation, and they are not ready for housekeeping that early. Wow, maybe after thinking it over again, it really wasn't worth the money.
beachfront location, styling, excellent breakfast buffet, atmosphere... all these are exactly what you are looking for in a beach vacation. There was some beach erosion, but that is seasonal, and there was a music festival in town that affects the entire town, not just this resort, so I won't hold that against them. All in all, I would stay here again, but that would only be in hopes that some of my negatives were just because they appeared to be relatively new out of a recent renovation.
The hotel has just been remodeled and the sheets were new and not soft yet. Hopefully after some washing they'll soften up. The lack of wifi was an issue. The only location to get any service was in the lobby and that was problematic.
We are tough customers and this hotel totally won us over!!! If you are looking for a luxury boutique hotel experience in an amazingly beautiful location... book this hotel now!!! Everything about this hotel says, "Relax and enjoy" and I do mean everything. No TV or phones in the room and very limited wifi so don't come to work and play here. Let it all go and enjoy absolutely delicious food and ocean views to die for!!! Can't say enough good things about this place. We'll be back FOR SURE!!!
The free wifi only works in the lobby and I had a poor signal every time I tried to use it.
The location is amazing. Mahekal is right on the beach and just a few short blocks to the shops on 5th avenue. Our bungalow was oceanfront with the most beautiful view of the pool and ocean. Our bed was super comfortable and our room was cleaned thoroughly every day. Every meal that we had at Mahekal was delicious and we found the drinks to be very fairly priced!
No shower on the beach For a family a small, noisy, dirty room. Late check out is not possible
Facilities could be enhanced such as the gym Noise levels birds quite loud Cleanliness could be improved and some rooms need some restoration we changed room as the first was really smelly.
Location Staff Beach Value for money
We had to leave.. .
Graet location. Good food. . Very clean. Peaceful. Place. We loved it !!
Beautiful, right on the beach. Our room was clean and spacious. The tile work in the bathroom was pretty cool. The staff were nice and helpful. Breakfast was great.
The resort was remodeling and workers were everywhere. The resort as very accommodating and moved our room.
Quiet, peaceful, the food was excellent. The bungalows were amazing the smell of thatched roof. One of the most beautiful places I have been to. The showers were beautiful. Beds were comphy. Staff were friendly helpful. The spa full body scrub is a must. Loved everything about mahekal beach resort. We will b back. Thanks for the memories
The hotel is not cheap but include half pension.
We spent a week in this stilish hotel with our family. The children loved both the sea and the two swimming pools. The hotel is very nice and the staff was very helpfull also to organise the birthday of our daughter. A perfect hotel for family vacation!
A bit too disney beach resort for a single young lady, but on the other hand - one definitely gets what's promised with this sort of place. Maybe better for families and/or couples. Also, it seems that when I purchased through booking.com, I was signed up for a package that included breakfast and dinner, but was not aware that that was being factored into the cost. Sort of an irritating surprise. I am not sure if that was an additional cost or an automatic thing - but if not necessary, one should try to ask that that expense not be included. Also, Mahekal charged the total amount to my card at the time of booking, rather than what booking.com indicates - that the amount will be withdrawn at the time of check-out. Another irritating surprise. Other than the booking.com snafus though - I was quite content with the resort.
The accommodations were very clean and comfortable. The beach was beautiful and so accessible. A very easy place to stay.
Incomplete info at check in, no room phones to call for luggage pickup, older pools (which are to be renovated)
location, individual huts, no TV,
Very poor WIFI-connection (if you can consider this as being a minus)
Friendly staff, superb cleaning staff (everyday we received new towels formed in different shapes like heart, temple,...)
Sidewalks are too narrow throughout the whole project at 2.5 Feet. My wife fell when she had to step aside to allow another guest to pass. Sidewalk had a 6 inch drop off. She split her knee cap and is in a 6 week recovery. Problem can be easily addressed by adding 6-10 inches to each side and done in a way that won't detract from the overall beauty of the resort. If this were in the U.S. they would have had many lawsuits by now. The owners are U.S. and we are considering our options.
Great staff, food, location and mix of people. Felt very comfortable.
Wrong room upon arrival, seems commonplace.Somewhat rude and indifferent staff. Our bathroom had rusty old fixtures, toilet smelled old and dirty, mattress and pillows were old and musty.Filthy common area bathrooms too. Never enough staff at front desk, never a concierge the whole time we were there. Not very helpful.Dinner Buffet was awful,we only went once and then didn't bother to go back.
close walk to beach, close walk to 5th ave shops and restaurants Some of waitstaff were very kind and friendly
Got a pedicure done in the spa, very expensive and worst pedi I've ever had!
Beautiful beach, comfortable rooms great location to relax!
