Service was just fair. Some guys, like our pool guy "Flaco" was personable, helpful, and fun; but at other times it was like the wait staff were deaf. Ask for coffee or a refill and they never come back. The worst part of the trip was the free WIFI. Come on, folks, it's 2015. And saying "it's Mexico" doesn't cut it. I have a beach vacation rental condo in Playa and my internet is faster and more reliable that at this resort. Plus, it is only available in the hotel lobby, not a the pools or the restaurants, and certainly not in the rooms. Thus, the lobby was always crowded with people and their connected devices. When you could connect, the service was so slow that my emails wouldn't even populate into my inbox. When I needed something, I just walked a block inland to Piola restaurant, which has fast and free wifi, and a darn good basil martini, too. Also, our hot water went away one night. They had been pounding all day in the next room, so I presumed it was something to do with that. I mentioned to front desk, but it was only luke warm the next morning, and despite mentioning it again, we never got truly hot water for our last 2 nights. Staff non-responsive and non-communicative was annoying... almost as annoying as the knocks on the doors starting as early as 8:30am -- really? it's not a business hotel, folks, people are on vacation, and they are not ready for housekeeping that early. Wow, maybe after thinking it over again, it really wasn't worth the money.
beachfront location, styling, excellent breakfast buffet, atmosphere... all these are exactly what you are looking for in a beach vacation. There was some beach erosion, but that is seasonal, and there was a music festival in town that affects the entire town, not just this resort, so I won't hold that against them. All in all, I would stay here again, but that would only be in hopes that some of my negatives were just because they appeared to be relatively new out of a recent renovation.
