The suite was well decorated, ocean front, excellent pools, and service second to non. it's all including package resort, with many good selection of restaurants, food and quality beverages. highly recommend, it's value for money.

It is perfectly located right in the 5ta Avenida.

We were traveling as a couple on our anniversary. We are mexican, and the hotel has a very foreigner environment. It is the typical resort for European and American people. Loud music on the pool, classes everywhere (Acuarobics, towel folding etc) which for me is not very relaxing if you just want to chill in the pool. The resort was full quite difficult to get a place by the pool or the beach, and impossible to get a drink, which by the way were very very american (not the mexican experience). The food was ok to good... But you cannot eat a thing by the pool which is frustrating. As a couple who wants to relax I would not recommend this hotel during peak season. We selected it because it is an adults only, but really it is full of young people, playing volleyball and drinking all day... If you are a group of adult friends travelling together I guess it is an ok choice. One more thing the beach is not very good, it is next to pier, which makes the trademark of the crystal blue sea difficult to appreciate ... and its rocky...

The location is the best feature of this hotel. In a tourist zone where taxi drivers overcharge like crazy, it's nice to be in a hotel from where you can go anywhere walking. Housekeeping staff is the best and the waiters are friendly but need training.

Staff is good, although they could get a bit more training at actually listening to you. Bathrooms could use a hand as well. We've stayed at others all-inclusive hotels in Mexico, and the biggest let down is the food. Although not bad, the quality is neutral, at best. You wont starve, but you wont remember this hotel by its cuisine. Not even their mexican food is good. If you visit this hotel, don't miss Asiana, Maria Marie and the VIP lounge snacks. If you like a restaurant where all dishes taste the same, by all means go to Pelicanos. Spice is a good choice if your hopes are not that high, and most definitely the best option for breakfast. The Coffee House is a disaster, not worth the walk (a real issue here. The hotel is huge!). Didn't try Chef Plate as they didn't include it due to the room we had (hate when all inclusive's do this) and they charge usd 80 if you want to go (with that money you'd buy yourself a taqueria in town). Avoid Tapas restaurant if you don't want a huge dissapointment due to long waits and small plates. Didn't care much for the spa either. Summer season is really hot and lack of air condinitioning on most areas of the hotel including the lobby and reception (I mean, how cheap can you get? Not even a fan? What's the use of sweating like crazy all the way through check in) makes the issue worse. But hell, we're on vacation, lets not be picky. Pool area and the beach next to it is noisy. All day! Beware rooms on the far side to the north of the hotel. They're right next to the construction of a new hotel. Noise starts at 6am. If you can go for the ocean view I'd recommend it, even over the ocean front ones. Even though the view is better the hotel beach is right next to a pier and the smell from the sea is not that nice. Plus you'll also be right next to the pool noise. If we plan again to go to Playa del Carmen we'd probably look for another place.

The wait staff and the bartenders were excellent. The pool was lovely and there is a nice stretch of beach.

There was one bellboy and one person at the front desk who were snippy and rude. The food in Asiana was not very good. There was no wait staff bringing drinks on the beach.

Beautiful setting; great location; friendly staff; lovely breakfast/lunch buffets

There's a sewerage smell in places (beach, coffee house); food in restaurants at night isn't great; the house wine is awful for a 5* hotel and the cheapest bottle of wine that's not extortionate is around $50

The location was nice for shopping and the beach.

The hotel staff charged me double fees after I arrived, which ended up costing me a great deal more than I had been told. When it rained, the tiles and steps were extremely slippery and water accumulated several inches in some walkway areas. I won't return to this hotel.

Upon arrival at the Royal Playa del Carmen we were immediately greeted, escorted and comfortably seated to get checked in. We were given champagne and cool washcloths to freshen up. We had emailed in advance our preferences with our 2 suites that we have one with a king bed and the other with 2 full beds and that they are located next to each other. Our party consisted of my husband and I and our three children ages 20-15. All our requests were granted. We were very happy with our room location. It was not near the construction. Our first day on the beach we were fortunate enough to have Vi as our waitress. She kept us all well hydrated with all kinds of beautiful tasty frozen drinks always with a smile! It was never a problem getting lounges by the beach and by late afternoon we could usually find some chairs at the pool. The pool water was a bit cool for me but the hot tub was wonderful. The entire resort is immaculate. Alejandro and Danny Boy always stopped by to fill us in with the activities to notify us of the activities available for the day. We didn’t partake in water sports this vacation as we only had 3 full days to completely relax and soak in the sun. We did enjoy SpaZul. Roger informed us that we were entitled to use the hydration circuit every day free of charge in the spa. So after beaching and hanging by the pool we would use the sauna, steam room cold plunge, and hotub before getting ready for dinner. Millie took good care of us at SpaZul. The ice tea and mint tea along with snacks were refreshing. Our last day the five of us enjoyed massages and were able to all book for 4pm. I had the sport massage by Enrique, which was absolutely the best massage I ever had! I believe Evelyn and Daysie massaged my daughters and we were all deeply relaxed after. Our room was right near the gym and we all used it every morning. It is small for the size of the resort but we always all managed to get a treadmill, bike or elliptical every morning.

    More entertainment at night.

The food was very good to excellent (depending on the restaurant) and the staff was great.

We had 2 different suites for our party and the service in the rooms was inconsistent. We didn't even have a hammock and I'm pretty sure we were the only room on that entire wing.

This an extremely well designed and managed resort, with great attention to detail. Staff members are welcoming, gracious and very well trained. Food choice, quality and presentation are excellent, as is the food service. Thanks Ivonne, Sue, Nancy, Jeronimo, Reynaldo and all. We hope to return and will recommend this resort to our family and friends.

The booking of our visit was mishandled, between and the Royal Resort (we booked for 3 visitors and were surprised that the Resort was expecting 2 visitors). This was rectified quickly and effectively by the excellent staff (Whilemina and Charon). Also, we requested at the time of initial booking (through to be placed away from the construction. This did not happen and we were initially placed right at the construction site (beautiful room, but right at the construction site). We asked to be moved and were accomodated quickly to another beautiful room away from the construction site with a beautiful view of the sea, as we had requested and booked. We were very pleased with the response of Resort staff to these booking challenges.

We upgraded to a president suite and was worth every penny of the upgrade. Pelicano's was a lovely beach front restaurant where we ate breakfast most mornings. Staff were so helpful and friendly Spa William our butler was a great help at all times

One member of staff on reception threatened my girlfriend, but can't tarnish everyone was the same brush. Most staff were so helpful We had a couple of problems with paying the bill on arrival due to staff which was annoying Poolside sun loungers were all took very early. And not a German in sight No cocktail menus No proper on site cocktail bar as such

Nothing. Left after first night. They charged me up front for three nights. Promised to refund my credit card and even gave me a receipt. I never received refund and I am having to deal with my credit card company.

Low value for $$. Horrible food. Needed reservations at almost every restaurant. Worst of all, our oceanfront junior suite was right by loud and constant construction with workers staring at us on our balcony. Horrible experience. Do not stay here.

    Nothing compairing with Cancun hotels

The hotel is very old, suites not renovated. Food in the main restaurant is poor and of bad quality. The food in other restaurants is hopeless. The hotel managements is hopeless. Be aware that a new hotel is being constructed just next to the hotel. So, you are very unlucky to have a suite close to the construction area. The hotel does not give this info of course whive offering rooms. We were provided with a suite in front of construction area. You can emagine feelings.. In addition, be aware the management provides false info on actual view of the suites. While saying "with see view", be prepared to have a room in front of your neighbours with a very approximate view on see, only if you make a big effort. With lot of efforts and energy we managed to get another room. But the management looked like never known about the constructions works. Finally, while checking out we noticed a bil charged for services we never used. We spent 1 hour to check the things and then got appolagises for a mistake. Avoid this sort of resort espacially for the price paid

Outstanding general staff, but management invisible.

We booked specific rooms 8 months in advance, however on arrival, these rooms were not available. We were offered to move half way through our 5 night stay, which we clearly did not want to do, so we just put up with the rooms allocated to us. Secondly, the construction that is happening is horrendous and the incessant noise was unbearable. Problem is, no warning, no letter of apology, and obviously no discount! Spoilt our stay completely.

The service was truly excellent - very attentive and cheerful staff. The location was great - right on the beach and also steps from Playa del Carmen's 5th Avenue, with many shops and restaurants. The food was abundant and pretty good. The facilities were clean and spacious. They have activities going all day.

Construction outside our room meant noise starting at 6:30 AM and continuing all day. It's outside their property but still we should have been warned about this. Also don't bother sitting through a hard sell for their "program," even if they offer a free massage or discounted shopping. It was unbelievably bad, long and confusing, and they want a decision on the spot even with no details and nothing in writing.

wonderful rooms and lots of attention to housekeeping. Also excellent waiting staff at the restaurants made it a very pleasant stay.

I was upset to see the staff placing their arm over their chest in greeting us-it made me feel uncomfortable to see this sign of obeisance

The area was lovely, hotel was lovely

Staff were not entirely friendly, Maria Maria restaurant was very poor, we were forced to endure 2 1/2 hrs of our time to discuss the real club membership which is a complete rip off. Not entirely happy with this at all. Food was not 5 star at all. For all inclusive the quality certainly drops.
