Try to plan to be there on Saturday evening at 9pm to see the wonderful fireworks at the cathedral. Be there early. They only last 5 minutes but they're great.

A historical cultural center with many museums, pink stone Baroque architecture, many outdoor cafes, plazas, good food everywhere. A lively, rather sophisticated city indicative of its many colleges and universities. Spanish Catholic influences with a strong undertone of deep indigenous traditions. Outlying areas with ancient archeological sites and interesting artisan towns. Third largest lake in Mexico.

We enjoyed the main street, the park, the street performers, the aqueduct, the magnificent architectural tours available. We also loved to listen and dance to our favorite band, Musico Vocal Horus, which plays five nights a week at Onix restaurant.

This was not our first visit to Morelia, but it was our first visit since Covid. It is a gracious city with beautiful architecture. Coincidentally it was a holiday weekend, so the historical center was abuzz with activity. This was our first stop on our way to other destinations, but it is certainly not out last visit to Morelia or Michoacan.

Morelia was one of the most interesting and lovely cities I’ve visited in Mexico. We loved the zoo, spent 5 hours there, and were blown away by the gardens and the giraffe encounter. We walked many miles through the historic center, enjoyed restaurants, street performers, the scenery, the double-decker bus tour, and touring and photographing the interiors and exteriors of the many historic churches and cathedrals. We found people friendly to us as Americans, and we felt safe and welcome. Thank you, Morelia, for sharing your beauty, warmth, and culture with a couple of happy Americans!

I booked a day and a half for Morelia.
I booked a day and a half for Morelia. It was about half way on a longer trip I was making. I had always wanted to see its Cathedral, but didn't think there was much more. I couldn't have been more wrong! Within the first hour, I knew I'd have to go back! The Centro is amazing! The old Colonial buildings are still standing and modern life just exists within. My hotel left one wall uncovered...nothing like sleeping next to a wall from a city founded in the 1500s!! I spent the day touring 2 former convents, the childhood home of Morelos (for whom Morelia is named) and, of course the beautiful Cathedral. One highlight of many was watching the 'Old Man Dance' in the central plaza. I had seen the dance before in Santa Barbara, CA, but to see it where it originated was magical! I feasted on traditional mole, carnitas, corundas and uchepos and I attended a retelling of the Morelia legends. (Spoiler: Doña Fernanda is still wandering the streets at night looking for her lost daughter.) I saw a Nativity scene that filled an entire plaza and watched from my balcony as the entire town showed up for the lighting of their beloved Cathedral. All this and I barely ventured off the main street! I will definitely go back to this Pueblo Mágico!
Everything about the hotel was excellent, all of the staff were very helpful and friendly. It has a great location, central to all of the city’s main sights.
Our room was very quiet and comfortable, a very good size.
A major plus was that we had hot water, a problem that we have experienced in a few other properties, all that were much more expensive.
Breakfast and the gifts were an extra plus.
Highly recommend this hotel.
situated on a hill overlooking Morelia it’s a 10 minute Uber ride into the historic centre (£3). It’s a sprawling complex, prettily designed with pool area and gym. Our room was comfortable, with a separate sitting area. It gets cold at night here in February (down to as low as 1 degree despite it being 27 or 28 degrees in the afternoon) so the heating was needed, although none in the seating area.
I'm very picky, but, there was nothing to pick at. Rooms were clean and smelled great. Best hotel experience I have had in Morelia so far. They support local artists and local indigenous groups. Best location; near enough to downtown, but, away from all the crazy traffic. They serve the most delicious breakfast on the weekends at a great price. Can't say enough about this hotel.
Very peaceful & beautiful apartment. I have stayed in different places in Morelia. But this place was the best.! I felt like I was back home.! It’s a little far from the main Centro, but you can always get a Taxi or walk, if you love walking & exploring. Also the people that are in charge of the gates, can help you with the Taxi.
fabulous central location. lovely architecture and structure. very bc lean. nicely kept. restaurant really solid. facilities good. bed very comfortable. shower. simply fabulous hard to imagine a better location for the Centro Historico area
This hostel was closed. Booking .com didn’t keep up to date on this. We arrived at 9 pm and it was locked up, no one there. Just as we were wondering what to do, the owner Luis drove up. He took us to another hotel he owns, Hotel Morelia. We were very happy to see him.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel was very nicely decorated and maintained. Nice spacious rooms. Also enjoyed the nice patio. Location was in the historic area so sightseeing of historic buildings etc all within walking distance. Breakfast was nice.
Excellent hotel. Very clean, nice design, in a very quiet area of Morelia and a great value. The free cookies and coffee are a nice touch. A bit far from the beautiful town center but still a great value and highly recommended.
The restaurant and service was top notch. Breakfast, lunch and dinner phenomenal. The location of hotel could not be beat. I would highly recommend to everyone traveling to Morelia without hesitation.
The hotel is just a short stroll from Morelia's main plaza. The staff is attentive and works hard to communicate with its non-Spanish guests. The room was clean and shower water pressure was good.
Everything was fine, but the pictures didn't tell the story of how small the rooms were. However, the staff was great and the location superb. Seemed expensive to a nice, but modest hotel.
Our stay at the hotel was almost excellent! The view is brilliant! The staff was kind and helpful, the room was clean and cozy, worth to stay for a night or two!
