We saw wild orang-utan and staying on Kinabatangan River was great for wildlife sightings. The guides were very friendly and knowledgeable.

The rooms were super basic for a facility only a few years old, especially considering the exorbitant price tag. We had mosquito repellent but they need bug spray in each room as we were kept awake by mosquitos buzzing us, even though they didn't actually bite us. The food was extremely basic and heavily western. They need to provide some Malaysian curries or other Malaysian food. The food was usually cold as the warmers were not adequate or forgotten to be put on. There is nothing to do after dinner and they need some more games or magazines and books that aren't in such bad condition. It looked like they had great intentions when they first opened.....but either the money ran out or their enthusiasm waned because it is in need of a good shake up.

The staff was incredibly friendly and we enjoyed the tours seeing Orang-Utans in the trees. It is remarkable that your guide picks you up at the airport and supports you all the way through. The location itself is splendid and there is good protection against mosquitos through solid window nets.

Even though understanding the concept of eco tourism the rooms are too basic given the price. We would have expected a bit more cosiness. Travelling with children one should keep in mind that there is no possibility to walk from the lodge, so don't forget toys to bridge the time between the boat cruises.
