All aspects. Pool side very good, excellent attention. Front desk similar. Food good without being spectacular.

A little too formal in atmosphere and foyer area too open and undefined.

It was a wonderfully historic hotel and the whole experience was enhanced by the excellence of the staff.

Outstanding rooms...just stunning. Delicious breakfast Ooooooversized bed Very friwbdly and good executive taxi service...about 30% more expensive then normal taxis though,but no cheating then

Garbage in the sea just un frint of the hotel Everything eeally great,but people should maybe think if they need this....why having a bed big enough for 5 grown ups,or a 24h butler service. Pardon, but I think that people who think they need this lost grip to real life...still nice to see this once.Generally:Great people in Malaysia.

everything done when-ever asked. I am lacto-intolerent and there were only salted and unsalted butter available at breakfast. I asked Mr. Hassan for some margarine and lo and behold, at breakfast the next morning...a chef brought some margarine to our table. That is service!!!

I was swimming at 07.10hrs on the morning of the 11th March 2012. I was the only person in the pool, for that matter...the only person near the pool. The pool attendant was putting towels on some loungers, and asked me to remove my stuff from one of the loungers...the lounger facing the pool, right next to the water's edge. He stated that the lounger was in use...by whom??? As our room( 206) overlooks the pool, I went down for an early swim before breakfast...as the pool attendant was only wiping down the loungers and preparing the area for the day's guests. Do guests book particular loungers? I would like a reply to this please.

Pay well over the odds for luxury. The service is good but could be better. In restaurants and generally-try the service at Raffles singapore and you wi see the difference

The staff were very special, smiling and helpful. Lovely atmosphere, so relaxing.

We both loved the style and the era of the place, the bar, the poolside and the room itself. The gift shop was helpful and so were the cleaning staff, reception etc. The hotel was chosen as we both enjoy discovering luxury hotels and the hotel stands as a standard on par with Sukhotai, Bangkok., Penninsula, Hong Kong and Raffles , Singapore. The new wing with the Sarkies Corner was fantastic and the waitstaff were friendly and helpful

The hotel staff lacked experience especially at the old Sarkies Corner where breakfast is served. They have no concept of customer service, they didnt check which room we were from nor seat us. Tea was offered with one teabag in the pot when for three days we had requested for two teabags. The maitre'd loved himself so much that most of the time, he ignored the customers. The choice available for breakfast was not of a high end selection, poor in fact, watery curries and dismal selection in western option. The staff overall had not much knowledge of where to go, what to see in Penang.... unlike most other hotels we have stayed at. The one word: no passion.

Real Colonial style, clean and well presented

Main service staff (not including 1885) require more training as breakfast was 'challanging' to get even a pot of tea and the bar seemed to want to serve cold food all the time.

We enjoy the romance of the hotels history and architecture. It has a style and old world sophisticarion that we enjoy. We have been wanting to stay there since 1973 when we first travelled through Penang as backpackers.
