Weak wifi reception
How expensive the food and beverage was and lack of options for lunch and dinner ? Do not opt for the private dinner, it is a waste of time and money!
The monkeys that roam the resort
The free wifi is terrible and it's sad that a luxury hotel try to make you pay for better wifi, not ok! The buffet restaurant is too much like a canteen and has not been designed to the same high standard as the rest of the place. It fine for breakfast but in the evening it has no charm at all. This is a problem as the only alternative is the seafood restaurant which is very expensive and the pool bar only serves unhealthy burgers and pizzas. It would be nice also to have some fresh salad/seafood options.
Location is really good and the design all round is beautiful. Staff make you feel you are the only person in the hotel and always try their best to make your stay pleasant.
Everything from the location to the staff was superb
Service at the pool bar was a bit slow.
Beautiful resort, friendly staff, chefs accommodating for vegetarians, surrounding nature and wildlife was wonderful.
The place is gorgeous, the staff is very nice, the food Is excellent.
For a rate like this, we expect free wifi and good working wifi. Both were not the case. The vegetarian local Malay choices on the menu were less or not there at all.
The villa with Mt Kinabalu view made the best sunrise and daytime scenery ever.. the romatic villa was big and had a real size bathtub. Even though it was a small walk up to the villa, the scenery was beautiful and compensated for the small climb. The staff was super friendly, really all of them. Even when we got back from the island, the staff insisted on carrying my begs to the mall, almost felt uncomfortable about it. During the stay we could see the eco resort which had been our choice almost, but we are glad we choose this resort as the setting is more beautiful.
Food and beverage was a little pricey.
Ease of transfer, amazing rooms -especially the bed! Facilities were great, everything was done to make our stay enjoyable.
Everything! Food, staff, activities! All was made to give us the perfect stay!
Dinner at the Feast Village was mediocre for RM100 per person - Desserts were very good though (Did not get to try the shabu-shabu/teppanyaki restaurant uphill though as we did not book so not able to give reviews of that). As it was very hot and humid outside, there were times when we wanted to retreat in our room but the air-conditioner was not cool enough - Called maintenance twice and they also agreed it wasn't cool enough but wasn't able to diagnose what was wrong (Slept comfortably during the night, nonetheless). Wifi was slow but it was ok for us as we tried not to go on the internet much while we were on a getaway.
Very serene getaway, the villas provided a great retreat. We stayed at Bayu Villa where it was much closer to the main reception/lobby and almost all of the facilities (except Spa Village, which was a 5-minute uphill walk away). The daybeds outside were comfortable but beware of monkeys. Great spread for breakfast although wished there were more varieties of pastries (there were no croissants during the two days' stay there). The Rolling Waves body massage at the Spa Village at RM430 per person came with a foot scrub together with neck and shoulders massage, was worth it.
There is no privacy on the balconies from other balconies because there are no complete dividers. There are few access points between the rooms on the hillside and the elevated walkway along the beach. Going from the elevated walkway to/from the other facilities requires going thru the middle of the restaurant or soft sand. The finish and repair work on the rooms is shoddy, with hammer imprints and paint drips and silicone smears. The daily cleaning missed the same cob webs my entire stay, and the railing on the balcony was sticky from where someone spilled a soda a long time ago. The restaurant staff made a big mistake at every meal, ranging from delivering 4 courses all at once to forgetting drink orders or losing track of who the order was for. The bar is not conducive to socializing. The shop lacks some basic essentials you might forget like suntan lotion and bug spray. A main advertisement is hiking near KK, but the motel trails are limited and do not link up with the island trails, they only want you hiking with a guide for safety concerns, but don't advertise guides. You encounter silly rules, like required long pants at the restaurant which has no AC and is away from the natural breeze (nothing like a hot, sweaty dinner in the tropics).
GIR has a very nice remote private beach, nice pool facilities, and a well kept elevated walkway through a garden. The food was good. The room size and furnishings are typical for an Island resort. There isn't anything horribly bad, but everything seems to have bad execution, from the design to most of the staff. The best upside might be that other resorts in the area have about the same or worse ratings.
The WiFi not working on the room And walking to much to go to the room n they don't provide buggy car
The place so private n they provide u almost everything there. The food tasty, staff friendly,
The food is pricey and there are no options to dine outside the hotel.
The helpulness of the staff, the private beach (reached by a short boat ride - wild pigs and monkeys could be seen there), the nature walk, free yoga and meditation classes. The location is simply stunning, very close to the jungle. It is the perfect location for honeymooners.
Being a secluded resort can be a plus but also a minus - getting out from the resort is only 15min but boat but costs a fortune so you are forced to eat at the resort (the food is not that good and of course massively overpriced) Snorkeling possibilities around the resort very poor Wi-fi working very slowly I hate when giving price without tax and service if it is a fixed, unchangable cost
It is a fantastic resort with all possible facilites, great big rooms, picturosque sceneries. Nice big breakfasts Amazing staff Lots of different activities, gym, library
Would not bother to book a mount kinabalu view villa again. They are all a long drag up cardiac hill after a heavy meal. The more you pay the further you have to walk. We only caught a glimpse of mt kinabalu through the clouds and heat haze during our stay and that was from the beach.
Excellent position, wonderful staff in relaxed environment
The hotels fast boats that don't respect the environment:corals and turtles.
The staff and hotel were very nice. The staff was helpful and very friendly.
Needs chairs to sit inside & on balconies as day beds not useable when raining.
Breakfast, pool & bar, beach, views, wildlife. Good size mugs for tea/coffee. Plenty of complimentary water.
The staff are super friendly and they have one of the best spa I've ever been... And the chef can cook anything for you as you wish... Just love it !!
Service was not very efficient nor co-ordinated. You have to make reservations at their restaurants for lunch and/or dinner; one reservation we made at the reception was not communicated to the restaurant so we ended up not having a table. We were told one price for dinner then charged another (higher) price although this was corrected when we pointed it out. Didn't like that it was crowded and felt it rather generic (apart from its setting), but that's just a personal preference. Overall, I wouldn't pay this price for the experience and wouldn't go back again nor recommend it to people I know.
The room itself was very comfortable and the day bed outside the room added to the attractiveness of it. Staff are very friendly.
I love it and the Staff are the best. Staff Staff Staff are who made our stay worthwhile. thank you, Gaya Island Resort for the special preparation in our villa at the first day.
The sea activities were very poorly organized and guests ' safety were compromised.

The walk to the room was totally gruelling. We are quite fit but in the heat, it was a real turn off. Food options were poor. Often either an expensive, dull buffet or menu items which just lacked appeal.Pizza???
Waking up at dawn, in the jungle, looking over the bay toward the city on the horizon, was magic.
A lot of hidden costs, such as the transfer on and off the Island were very expensive especially as we were a group of 8. At check out you are charged a daily rate for staying on the island which is not mentioned anywhere as we were there 4 days it was another 180. little choice of restaurants and there is no where else to go. Not a whole lot for children to do.
Lovely location and very friendly staff.
The price of food was more exensive than in restorants in Paris. The food was exelent but too exensive.
there can find everything thick jungle, exotic island and hight luxury. We are vegetarian and we were surprised how the chef treated us.he cooked many times especially for us. Very thankful. All together in a far away place.
