The Ombak Resort Perhentian Island is in Gua Sai just a 10-minute walk from the beautiful Long Beach. Enjoying sweeping sea views, the resort provides free Wi-Fi access and well-furnished guest rooms....

location, garden and beach
rooms old and durty air conditioning noisy restaurant expensive for poor food
The location and amazing beach and snorkelling is the only reason I would stay here again.
The resort itself is in desperate need of updating (and has been for wine time). The staff were not particularly courteous and we were disappointed that snorkelling tours are only available for min of 5 people - so we missed out.
PIR is one of the most expensive places to stay at the Perhentians. But in exchange, you get one of the most beautiful and quiet spots at the beach, a sufficient level of cleanliness (compared to other places at the islands) and a nice breakfast buffet in the morning. There is always a staff member at the reception and they really try to help you with everything you ask for. Therefore I cant agree with the negative reviews regarding the attitude of the staff.
Dont expect a five star hotel - rooms are not as clean as hotels in other places. But as a defense, its on the edge to a rain forest and humidity also seems to make it harder to maintain this place. When it comes to dinner, try other places on the island (expensive and not good). Regarding the negative comments on not serving alcohol: I dont get it. Its Malaysia (a muslim country), so if you cant deal with it, better go somewhere else.
Location Beach Friendly staff
Food (go to Tuna Bay or the Small Island to eat!) Cleanliness
Vast, clean beach minus the crowd!
1) Food was terrible! To enjoy good food we have to spend transport to go to another island 2) Lack of experienced staff. Most of them were students on vocational training serving tourists on peak season!!! 3) Overpriced with the standard of accommodation and toiletries..
PIR is locatted in perhaps the best beach of Pulao Perhentians.
I had stayed at this resort back in 2008, and I knew it was already a bit run down. However I chose it again because we were travelling with a toddler and the beach is by far the best (white sandy beach with no stones or coral). But I was very disappointed. The resort is in a desperate need of renovation. We only managed to get a room with sea view and that was just acceptable (again terrible value for money). But the second room available was at the back (3rd line). The A/C was an old one with no possibiliy of regulating it: so it was either frezzing cold or we have to turn it off. My partner had to put an open umbrella to stop the air getting directly onto our throats as on the second night we were all with a sore throat. We complained and they moved us to the second line, where it was slightly better as it was a split A/C that you could regulate the temperature. The bathroom was really bad in both rooms. The sink had a crack and every time we open the water tap the water was innundating the bathroom floor. We complained and they sent someone to fix it, but he didn't fix it properly so we put up with the problem because we were tired of complaining about everything that was not working. The courtains were all the time getting off the hook, and it was again poor maintenace. All in all I will not come back to this place, especially because it's expensive and very bad value for money (for less money we got a 5 star hotel in KL). Breakfast is not good. You have quite a choice of things to chose from but the quality of the food is really bad. For example the orange juice it was just water with some orange flavour powder added to it. If I had to come back I would probably chose Tuna Bay resort. The place is newer and the restaurant is better.
Location just in front of beach Swimming pool
Restaurant a bit too expensive (finally didn't try it at all), there were some other restaurants 10 minutes away. Poor quality/price ratio, especially when coming from Thailand.
The beach is one of the best of the island.
The beach is full of screaming kids. Apparently it's a family place. The price you pay it's not worth it at all. The room (which was the highest rate they have) was very dirty and old. So, don't waste your money ans just go to "Coral View" which is 50 mt from it. With a third of the price you get a better place, cleaner, with very good food and service. I didn't try any other meal here then the breakfast which was awful.
Beach. Marine life at the beach itself.
Food. No alcohol. Dirty. Not maintained. Bad service. Broken and too few sun beds. Food was the worst!!
Just on the beach. The best beach of the island. Big room with terrace. Everyday cleaning. Breakfast choice. Big and nice common areas. Close to cheap and good restaurants.
WiFi not working. Expensive internal restaurant.
The rooms were in an ideal location for the best beach on the island and the amazing wildlife. The accommodation was very good with fantastic views.
The restaurant was overpriced and the food was very poor. Service wasn't great with an inability to buy cold water. We went to a great Chinese restaurant next to Coral View where you could enjoy fantastic good value food, washed down with a beer whilst watching the sun set.
All in all the resort looks good since it has all the necessary comforts to spend some relaxing days. The room was nice and clean (a superior in front of the sea, but there are other cheap options facing the forest...), good dive / snorkeling center, clean beach (large and long) from where you can easily access the facing reef. Nice also the restaurant.
The staff needs to be more professional (both at the reception and at the restaurant). It was very hard to understand what they said and nobody helped us in carrying luggage from the jetty to the room. The restaurant needs to be improved a lot in the quality and availability of meals and in the service, the wi-fi does not work, the bar facing the beach is not operating, the beach loungers are very few and without padding... The value for money is a bit unbalanced on the price...
Location Staff was helpful Breakfast is fine Quiet Good for family
Small cottage No alcool available Diner is below expectation
The place is just awesome !!!
On out first room there were a lot of insects, it was disgusting. Hopefully the staff gave us an other room quickly.
Location, wild life, beaches,
The restaurant food was very poor even breakfast was not up to standard. NO fresh juice, no wholewheat choices and general unhealthy. Room towels had holes.
A private beach with good space, and a choral snorkling place at the beach. Also a divingcenter connected to the resort.
They do not serve any alcohol, and it is very quiet in the evening. We felt a bit alone, but a five minute walk through some stairs, you find more restaurants.
The beach in front of the hotel is fantastic. The villas in front of the beach are very convenient and good for the price, if you avoid the older ones. The diving and snorkelling centre is well managed by nice people.
Food and drink options are limited. Attitude of some of the personnel should improve. Small things like charging for the beach umbrellas do not help to feel comfortable. Swming pool is nice but poorly cleaned and maintained.
The location and the beach are just wonderful although the resort isn't as secluded as some of the smaller locations are.
The staff could be a little more attentive and helpful.
Location. Excellent beach. Clean n good view.
Rooms are very old. Floor unstable. Mattresses are not comfortable at all. There were rubbish underneath the bed. Room smells of mildew. No tv, no phone. Air con's remote not functioning. Furnitures are old. If not for location, I will never return to the resort.
The bay and the beach are wonderful. Also the view and direct access to the beach from the front row of houses is great. Wifi works more or less (speed isn't great but hey, you're on an island ;)
Most of the staff doesn't seem very attentive but if you ask you'll get answers. The resort is one of the bigger locations on the two islands. It's still ok but if you really look for romance and quietness choose some of the other places to stay.
The view and the staff
Is too expensive for what you get and the wi-fi didn't work at all
- Best beach on the island - Beach facilities: Chairs, umbrella, shower, towels - One of the best place to stay if you are not a backpacker, as the jetty and the way to reception and all rooms is concrete.
-Poor food quality -Poor room service -Poor room facilities
The location was excellent. The beach and reefs outside the hotel provide excellent snorkeling. The hotel itself has many excellent wildlife, with a large family of gibbons, flying lemurs, birds and iguanas. You can keep yourself occupied all day, and in the evening, the hotel televised the World-Cup soccer in the restaurant area. The rooms have air-conditioning.
No beach towels were provided (though I noticed that other hotels also don't provide beach towels). The the rooms were old, and the linen and towels were old. There was only 1 restaurant open, and the choice on the menu was limited. The landscaping around the resort was poor and dirty in places. The hotel would be so much better if they took better care of the landscaping and gardening of the hotel areas.
Very nice beach, you can go swim with the turtles everyday, Room ok, hot water.
The pool is dirty, few deckchairs, lunch and dinner buffet are quite poor for europeans
The beach is simply the best beach ever! If you swim out a bit you can swim with the turtles!
The room was clean, but dated. The air conditioning broke every night, so eventually we got them to put a fan in our room so it was OK. The restaurant food is pretty bad, but if you cross the bridge by the jetty the restaurant at the hotel on the other side has really great food!
