Good staff and amenities. Very handy to have a small store in the complex The food for lunch and evening meals was a little monotonous. But it is easy to go into Kota Kinabalu town

The staff were amazing! My husband and I travel all over the world regularly and we have never experienced the same friendliness and 'can do' attitude like we did at the Magellan. What makes it stand out is the consistency of the good service - from the front porters to the food and beverage staff and the cleaners - we were greeted warmly every time we walked past staff members. Our daughter (unfortunately) became ill whilst at the Resort with a virus and the staff not only directed us to english speaking Doctors with good facilities, they also rang to ask after her health when we returned and followed up when we saw them to make sure she was better. The cleaners were outstanding and we were very pleased at their attention to detail (and I am extremely fussy!). At one stage my husband asked for an esky to keep our drinks cold during a tour. The concierge was unable to find one so promptly sent a staff member out shopping to purchase one for us - sensational! A huge thank you to everyone for the best service we have ever received. The rooms were gorgeous however our Suites all had broken blinds. This was annoying as not only did it interrupt the (spectacular) views but it also meant we woke early each morning which is not something we were pleased about on holidays! The free broadband was terrific but the speed was slow it made downloading information difficult. In fairness I am not sure if this was a 'hotel' problem or the speed in KK in general. Poolside eating could also be improved by offering a few healthy alternatives and a kids menu would make it more child friendly.

With many things to do I did not have to leave the resort that much. Colin in the Magellan area was excellent. The lifeguards at the pool were not supervising the pools very well. I saw one playing with his mobile phone for 20 mins. Without looking at the pool.

Nothing. Very Ordinary. Rooms are old, in dire need of renovation. Furniture staining are worn off. 5 Star hotel with 2 star rooms. Staff keep on checking the room at least twice in the evening which was annoying.

We arrived early morning after flying all night. We were absolutely fatigued and the hotel happened to have temporary rooms available for our family to use until our own allocated rooms were ready. This was totally unexpected and from that point on, even with a few small service related slip ups during our stay (probably language related), the hotel had our family vote as "top notch". We would have no hesitations in again staying at the Magellan Sutera. For deciding between the Pacific and Magellan, pick the Magellan over the Pacific for all round enjoyment of quality, hotel grounds, available facilities and service.

Happy hour in pool bar Every little thing attracted a charge where in other resorts it would not, even in the most basic of resorts. For example, we were in the pool and there was a ball for use to play pool basketball/volleyball. We used it and then when we went back to our sun loungers, the pool staff came over with a bill for 10rm for use of a plastic ball and expected us to sign it to our room charges. This was outragreous and does not reflect well on the hotel. Although we had a good time, in comparison to other 5 star resorts, this hotel was niot value for money.

We relaxed and enjoyed the lovely hotel with the water view and spectacular sunsets. We enjoyed the food and drinks at the 'Alfresco' cafe and happy hour at the swim up pool bar. We also had some great snorkelling trips to Sapi Island. The beds are just a bit firm. Otherwise everything is really lovely. there really wasn't anything to complain about. its a great place.

Loved the location, very handy to the airport, great sea views, lovely rooms The only small comment I would say is you had to be fast to get a sun lounge as there wasn't too many available

Everything in general was OK but I cannot recall anything I especially liked about Magellan. Another huge expensive beach hotel. The food/beverages prices inside the hotel are roughly 5-10 times higher than in downtown. How do you like $12 for a beer? This is a highest markup I've ever seen. Prepare for a big money deposit to be charged upon check-in.

Staffs are not friendly when we ask for assistance. They locked our cars during the new year eve using chain and did not release fully the chain lock new year morning. Air condition hot in room and also in dining area. New year party is uneventful, expected to see fire works but there were none. Even playing table tennis, we need to pay for table and to rent the bats!!

very little, is not up to the classification of luxury resort, and will definitely not recommend to friends the service was very poor, and we stayed at the club room, staff is not helpfull overall except for a few, also not knowledgeable about hotel itself. room is spacious, but everything seems not working, blinds cannot shut properly and you cannot open it.shuttle bus to neighbour pacific sutra took too long, at one time we had to wait for more than 0.5hr,it's not done for the pretensions of a 5star luxury resort

Everthing are fine with the resort. Would go back to stay at Sutera Magellan when we go over for weekend trip. The wooden planks at the pool area should be changed. Very old and some are even broken that is dangerous when guests are walking around barefoot. Blinds in the bedroom should be maintain because some of them are not in working condition. Also there are geckos in the bedroom which is normally unusual in hotels. Hotel rooms in fact should be upgraded as the design is getting out of date.

We had a great time. Club rooms and club amneties rock. The evening cocktail is something of very good quality.Location and overall property is awesome.. Old style tv even in the Club Rooms - Most of the Hotels have larger lcd screens now...Services at breakfast time in the lounge are extremely slow and the choice very limited...

The resort is a great place to rest and relax, whether for couples or family. Rooms are spacious and designed for comfort. The hotel staffs are friendly and helpful to assist in all your needs. Having said that, the resort is not at its maximum occupancy rate during my stay. Well, it will be kind of costly if you have all your dinners in the resort, be it Magellan, Sutera Harbour or Pacific. So do have some nights out in the city area.

Since I travelled with my family, my 2 kids enjoyed the pool most. Other than this, I can't say much. I have stayed in the Club room and frankly it was not worth the money I have paid. We would like our room to be clean of all kind of insects and Geckos. But our room has some Geckos which scare my kids.

This resort hotel was fantastic. The staff service was exceptional, very friendly and not overly intrusive. An early check-in at 7am was an added bonus we had not expected. The swimming pools are great for both relaxing and for children; there is even a 50m pool for those wanting to do laps. The food was exceptional, especially the meal we had at the Spice restaurant. The intra-resort and KK shuttle bus service was very good, with hourly trips into KK. We wanted a relaxing break and we found the Magellan Sutera was perfect. The room we were given initially did not offer the sea view we were expecting (obscured) and also was a little tardy (carpet old and lifting in places). We were then given the option of two other rooms; one similar to the first and the other wonderful. The room we selected appeared to have new carpet, which really made a difference and the sea view was uninterrupted. While changing rooms we noted that there were two other couples doing the same, so perhaps the rooms are becoming due for a revamp (resort about 10 years old). Definitely worthwhile staying at the Magellan, just be prepared to ask for a better room if not happy.

The hotel was good as it was low rise and it provided a suitable environment for us to relax. The layout of the hotel was good especially with all the restaurants facing the sea. I was a little disappointed With the room as I had expected it to be aa lot nicer for the price and it looked a little run down. The carpet is particularly worn off.
