There's something magical about this little beach community.
There's something magical about this little beach community. The vibe and energy are great- restaurants and bars with excellent food & drink everywhere. Locals and tourists are friendly and helpful. We know a tiny bit of Espanol but were able to communicate with no issues, and English is spoken more prevalently than I had expected. Can't wait to visit again!!

It is a busy town, with lots of surfers and retired folks living or visiting. Lots of motorbikes for getting around. Some excellent restaurants along the beach front including Henry's Iguana Bar, and Maggies' Restaurant up the street. Good fish tacos at little kiosk. Great beach walks, lovely sunsets and a few hikes to do. One to the Jesus protecting the bay and the other to the lighthouse on the opposite side of bay. Wear good shoes for those.

Great little beach town with numerous bars and restaurants with amazing sunset views. Very walkable even in flip flops. Not a bad meal to be found! Lots of fun places to watch American football if you like that.

everything is walking distance, you can get to the know the town easily just walking around. I liked Vivian restaurant, nice place, clean, friendly staff.
the beach was full of trash... plastic trash, cups, bottles, cookie wraps, cans... trash all over the sand and in the ocean and for some reason nobody seems to care. it was very impressive and quite sad.
Looking Good Surf House was a great place to stay!

The town wasn't as bad as I was expecting!
The town wasn't as bad as I was expecting! pretty calm in the day and evening, not sure about after that! we were there 2 days and for us that was just right. We went to Remanso beach one day and Maderas beach the other. Rented boards at each and tried to surf! Maderas waves were better, at least when we were there in April. We were at the beaches for about 5 hours each day. I didn't love the fact that Remanso had no shade and neither seemed to have much for facilities, except the few bars/restaurants that you kinda had to eat/drink at in order to have some shade or a shower or somewhere to hang out. Not really my favourite scene. SJDS itself was small town seeming in the center and easy to get around walking and lots of food options and the beach in town was great to explore with the kids, swim or watch sunset. It's easy to get in and our of either on bus from Rivas or taxi- 20$ from the Ometepe Ferry for 4 of us. 25$ to the border organized through Casa Oro.

In the town there are a lot of open sewers and the smell is bad in many places. There is a lot of trash here and there. There is a lot of trash around the beach. The food is ok, the prices are alright. The better prices are away from the beachfront.
Tamarindo is a much nicer and cleaner beach. The Nica's need to clean up the trash and the open sewers.

We loved everything about it, especially the quick response when it comes to issues we had on the property like no electricity, I texted Ricardo the person in charge he came right away at 5 am to turn on the generator. The view is amazing! Really worth it! Now if you do not like the noise at night I will recommend bringing earplugs. Nature is amazing and san juan del sur is close as well.
Thank you Ricardo see you next year!
P.s you will need a 4x4 auto 🛺
I recommend San Juan del Sur, Chale's House Hotel Accommodation in Nicaragua.
What a great comfortable stay with great style and environment.
The room was fantastic with the added bonus of the shared lounge and a terrace.
The property is located 650 feet from San Juan del Sur Beach easy access to all the fun like hiking, windsurfing and snorkelling.
Great location with good free wifi.
A favourite part of San Juan del Sur for all.
Very friendly host, with good English. Good breakfast, either Nicaraguan standard or a waffle. Clean nice room, pretty small but spacey enough for me. Enough of drawers. Recently renovated surprisingly large shower, with nice tiles but only cold water, which though seems to be the case in most places. I really liked it and I’m likely to go back if I ever need to spend overnight at San Juan del Sur downtown again.
great pool to cool down a calm town in the mountains, away from the noisy center . You would see stuff that are quite good for a hotel of this size . like the skate park or the voleibol yard . Good place to sleep . Chairs by the pool and mini ranchs are great for having an excellent afternoon. Food is good and beers have a good price . cocktails are more expensive but are made of real fruit.
Right in the center of San Juan del Sur, every commodities are in walking distance. Javier is incredibly helpful and available for any questions you may have. They are a lovely family business, very friendly and welcoming. The hostel is cosy and has all the basic things you may need. We were staying in a private room with AC, perfect for the few nights we spent there. I would go back :)
Probably the most exciting place to stay. They are the closest to the sea in probably the whole nicaragua. The staff did great to arrange a surprise decoration and cake for my wife's birthday and also bumped us up to a larger room. Also great service and room ambience. The most amazing sunset view in SJDS.
Nothing beats the high tide when the sea comes right outside your door.
spectacular view from the room and the pool area. nice to have a kitchen at hand and very peaceful and quiet. we’re happy we chose to stay here rather than in the centre of San Juan del Sur
Location was as advertised, right on the beach - however, motorcycles riding by all night was a real bummer. The rooms and shared areas were very clean, and pleasantly decorated.
Exceptional, perfect holiday property right on the beach! Can’t recommend highly enough! Heidi and her staff are amazing. Great food, great atmosphere, secure and beautiful.
Very good location and as an exception there was running the hot water which is really rare in Nicaragua. The AC was also good to have. The staff was very nice and useful.
Excellent location in San Juan del Sur. Everything in walking distance; restaurants, cafes, bars and the beach. Hostel that provides rooms with a/c and private baths.
This hotel is absolutely beautiful and the pool facilities are fantastic. The location is a bit outside of San Juan del Sur but it's an easy drive into the town.
It was right on the beach front. But the town is very small and you can walk to the beach in minutes from anywhere. The view was nice but that's about it.
