Friendly staff. Good food. Comfortable bed.
Location is not in tourist area. Short cab or 10-15 minute walk necessary.
Rooms were very large and comfortable, clean beds were very large. Breakfast had fresh fruit, although the location invited flies to visit.
The location seemed a bit iffy if one was walking around at night, located in a poor local neighborhood. Computer access was dicey. One computer was in Spanish and the other didn't work well. The computers were also located in a beautiful outdoor courtyard and the mosquitoes had a good meal of my legs. As most places we stayed in Nicaragua English was limited and we had a hard time communicating . We were in a bad position because we had been robbed before we got here and things were going down hill fast in terms of our health. Our electronic communications and my husband's insulin had been stolen before we got there.
although advertised there was no internet in the rooms. when asking about it the owner said that it must be an issue with my devices. I have an iphone and an $1000 laptop of 1 year old. when asking other guests they said they had the same issue. be honest! don't blame your customer devices if you fail to get some internet up.
Really friendly staff and very knowledgeable of the highlights in Granada. We felt very welcome since the first moment we arrived and were received with a cool tamarind drink, which was great because it was so hot! The beds are very comfortable, with nice sheets, tv, shower and a fan. All the rooms face the garden which is beautiful with flowers and fruit trees. There is free wireless, comfortable hammocks right next to the front desk and lots of books. Breakfast was great! They had at least 5 different options to choose from and the staff was happy to make any changes requested. The price was good. The location is a bit of a walking from downtown but worth it. If you don’t like walking at night, you can just take a taxi to or from downtown for $1,50. This hotel was originally created as a project to employ women from the community to provide them with a dignified job and income. It is a very positive outcome and a great place to stay. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to our friends.
The staff was amazing!! very nice and helpful. The hotel garden was so peaceful and tranquil. I recommend eating at hotel, its cheap and very tasty, especially if you want typical food. Hotel is within walking distance to center of town and shopping. Best not to walk to hotel after 9pm. I would definitely come back again.
Not all rooms have AC, recommend you pay the extra few dollars for a room with AC, fans were good, but not always affective against the humidity..
t staffWe liked everything - beautifully set out and well maintained by pleasan
Perhaps not the best location, although the road with the hotel in is fine and the sometimes struggle through the market traders lining the street is always interesting. We were advised to get a taxi back at night, but always walked and never had any problems, everyone being very friendly.
The staff and atmosphere was great. We stayed at a higher end place in Granada ($100+/night) for 2 nights during the beginning of our trip and liked Casa Barcelona just as much, if not more. If it only it had a pool, it would have been perfect! Reading the other reviews, it is clear that some people may have been put off by the location, but my girlfriend and I walked to the central park twice (once returning at 10pm) and we felt completely safe both times. Plus, it allowed us to see part of the city (a really cool local market) we probably would have missed otherwise, and there's always the option of taking a very short cab or carriage ride back to the hotel. Oh, and I almost forgot, the food was some of the best we had in Nicaragua!
Nada! But if you have a vehicle I suggest you let them know ahead of time because the parking seemed a bit limited.
Great staff, great value for money. Good off street parking.
Local area run down.
We loved Hotel Barcelona. The staff was AWESOME and SOOO helpful. They were very friendly and very honest and we would highly recommend Hotel Barcelona to family and friends!! We also found their taxi guy was the best price around and was such a nice patient man.
I wish they had included breakfast in their price.
The woman whose owns the place spoke good english and was very helpful with our questions. She gives a part of her profits back inro the community by paying for some local childrens education.
Very comfortable bed, had to purchase AC extra as it was really hot and no cool air at all. Room was very clean and staff always willing to help. There is a guy at the door all the time which makes yoi feel safe. A safety box is provided for your valuables.
There was a mixup in our reservations and the hotel was not open for guests when we arrived. But the owner had a room made ready and welcomed us anyway. She went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and beautifully presented.
There was only one restaurant close by for dinner or lunch but the hotel was within walking distance of the main markets in town.
Liked the restaurant on-site, how quiet the room is at night, the friendly and helpful staff.
Didn't like the location, having to pay extra for AC, and not having hot water in the shower.
Close to centre and bus station, friendly and very helpfull staff
great room lovely gardens great staff location good near livley market
The proprietor was GREAT! She was very helpful, spoke english well and was responsive to all needs. The hotel has only been open to international travelers for a couple of years but is clean, food is great. Made for an excellent stay in Granada.
Taxi driver did not know the location due to it being a recently opened hotel.
We loved everything about this place. The simple rooms are very comfortable and beautifully designed. This was the most comfortable bed we had during our entire trip. Plus, all the windows are screened so we could get fresh air, and using the ceiling fan kept us cool during the night. Much better than the stuffy rooms we have had with air con and no ventilation. The bathroom was great too, with lots of attention to detail, worthy of a much more expensive hotel. We also really liked the beautiful garden, a green oasis in the city and a lovely peaceful place to hang out. We did not eat breakfast but heard the food is really good there too.
The ONLY downside to this place is its location. For one day or so it's actually quite interesting walking through the market to get into town, but it can become tedious in the heat if the day, and at night you definitely need to take a taxi. It's not really a big problem, and although we would prefer to be more centrally located, this place (and the owner) was so lovely, and such great value, that it was actually one of our favorite hotels of our trip and we would highly recommend it.
A sweet, welcoming place that's close enough to the Granada attractions to be accessible and removed enough to feel slow and easy. The lady who runs the place is gracious, kind an very helpful. Hotel Casa Barcelona is a bargain in the best sense of the word.
Casa Barcelona is a bargain for anyone who does not want to stay at a hostal. It is a well-run, secure place with a nice courtyard and dining area. AC is an additional charge, but is not necessary at night. The staff are honest and there is a safe in the room. Breakfast costs $5 US, but is as good as any breakfast in Granada.
My wife and our 3 year-old stayed here for our first night in Nicaragua and I absolutely loved it! First of all, we felt very welcomed the moment we stepped in. The staff was extremely accommodating for our little one and the owner even prepared a special meal for us late at night. The images on the website are accurate but images cannot portray how relaxing and peaceful Hotel Casa Barcelona is. Just being there instantly shook off all the tension of getting through customs and out of Managua. Also, on a map, it looked like it was kind of far away from the town center but it's Not. From here, you can easily walk to the park (close to restaurants) in about 5 minutes or so. We're still here in Nicaragua and loving it but I was so impressed that I wanted to take a minute to write this review (my first review ever, of anything!). You get much more than you pay for at Hotel Casa Barcelona. Oh, my wife wants me to mention how clean it was and how comfortable our huge bed was!
We left our phones plugged in and left for the bus station to Managua. We were going to take a taxi back to the hotel. It was then that one of the gals from the hotel showed up at the bus station with our phones.
They charge 10 to 20 percent more for using a charge card.
I loved averything and everyone at Casa Barcelona. Very beautiful and friendly place. Just a bit out of they fray of the town.
Comfortable and rustic, Clean room. Good Value!
I liked everything except the long walk into town.
Very nice place with comfortable rooms for a very decent price.
I bit further from the center, but that is only a bit of a concern at night.
