The location was good Price&Quality didn´t match. When I checked out, there was a little confusion with my invoice and I had 2 questions. The staff made me feel very unconfortable about that, and made me feel like a silly with absolutely no reason. I think they were unaware of their own business.

The location was perfect looking out on Dam Square. The hotel was lovely furnished, modern, contemporary and most importantly clean. We also got a great deal through booking.com - value for money. On arrival, we had to pay a 70Euro deposit which we wasn't aware of and the restaurant is expensive but plenty of other restaurants around anyway :) I would still go back though it was a lovely hotel.

A magnificent location in the very centre of Amsterdam. Very friendly and attentive staff. Good restuarant A minor point ! The shower hose in 212 automatically pointed the spray onto the bathroom floor outside - please check it out.

Check out time is too early @ 11:00 PM and they have deactivate my access card after this time around 11:20 so I could not login to my room until I went down to the reception to activate it again.

Staff (very friendly and always helpful), restaurant, business centre, safe in room and location. Restaurant was excellent for meals in the evening. Room too small, toilet far too small and we could not get easy access to the toilet. Room 407 location was awful - right opposite lift and Domestic store - too noisy all nigh t(lift) and early in the morning (domestics) and flooring contractors started outside our room at 7.45am - removing carpet and drilling. Breakfast was expensive for waht you got.

Location and familiarity from previous visits. The hotel is still undergoing refurbishment. Noise from builders working in adjacent rooms from 8:00 am onwards. Although our room had already been refurbished and looked smart, there were major drawbacks, as follows: 1. Heating is now provided by a small air-conditioner, which is insufficient to provide a warm ambience throughout the room. There is no heating in the bathroom. Bring back the radiators! 2. Lighting is too dim to read by. No illumination around or over mirrors, so my wife had difficulty making-up. 3. The new beds are of cheap quality and sag in the middle. Two people in the bed end up rolling together throughout the night. Romantic perhaps but inconvenient when one is trying to sleep! 4. On previous visits, breakfast was included. It is not now and is very expensive. needless to say, we ate out. 5. The hotel advertises free wi-fi. We found that this does not work in the rooms but only in the restaurant - which we did not use. Result, our iPad could not be used. 6. The multi-media TV/Internet system in the rooms was not used by us. Why? On switching on, one is presented with a menu offering a "special offer" (chargeable!) of TV, radio, movies, adult channels and music. There is no indication that "ordinary" TV is available for no charge, so we did not use the system at all, for fear of incurring charges just to watch BBC One. 7. The hotel guide must have been written by a 1950's Blackpool seaside guest-house landlady, as it is full of "thou shalt nots". Apart from the superfluous no-smoking warning (it's against the law anyway) there were other stern warnings, such as the one which says that guests must not bring food or drink into rooms or they will be "expulsed"! Hey - a new word!

Stopped in Amsterdam for few days in between 2 business meetings in Europe to chill out. Not a four star hotel, I'd give them two in the best case scenario. Greedy and Rude staff. VERY tight rooms -don't be fooled by the pictures like I was- VERY VERY tight shower. Bathroom and shower at different sides of the room! Poor Hygiene and awfully gloomy room. Took staff 3 days to replace chips and chocolates consumed in the room, barely changed the bed sheets. Squeaks and doors' sounds throughout the night. Most respectable four and star hotels have smoking rooms that they don’t advertise, many budget and 2-3 star hotels are smoker friendly also, so no real added value staying in the De Roode. The location is very central, I must admit, but most hotels are within a walking distance radius.

The hotel advertises itself as four star. It is anything but. The twin ' superior' room was tiny with a view into a dark service area covered with extractor pipes and air-con ducts. The shower didnt have a door or a curtain and when we asked we were told that it was because of health and safety reasons. The room was dog-eared and shabby and unwelcoming. The daily cleaning service turned the sheets, but did not clean them. The fairly expensive restaurant was ok, but certainy not worth the money. Although I do appreciate that Dutch food isn't renowned for it's inventiveness. I'd rate the hotel at 2 stars. I've stayed in cleaner and more comfortable Travel-lodges.
