Budget Hotel Barbacan  

The location is very good, near the centre in the plantage area.

The hotel was filthy, smelly and the rooms looked horrible. One of the receptionists was ride and he insulted us with "a joke". The shower on the 3rd floor did not exist, so we had to use another from the 2nd floor which I believe was the only shower for hotel shared rooms.

Nothing they have cat and dog hovering the reception which a bad impression and embarasement to the guest and quite shocking. This is no way near hotel it should be a hostel. Compare to the amount charged it does not meet the standard at all. Thx

It was in a quiet neighbourhood

The website said there was breakfast & signs at the hotel said they served breakfast between 8 - 9:30am however the hotel did not do any breakfast at all. The hotel was also more like a hostel, the bathroom was tiny & difficult to share between 4 people, especially since we thought it was going to be bigger like a regular hotel bathroom. The pillows were flat & very uncomfortable & there weren't any spare pillows or towels in the room. There was also no bathmat, so the floor was constantly wet.

Management was poor+rude room not cleaned daily state of beds,linnen,room all together, open toiletts

The room was nin poor state of repair,mould on the walls which was quite a lot, flooring poor,wardrobe in a poor state.No facility for making a hot drink.

Friendliness of the staff and the location.

The hotel requires a ground up renovation. Although the staff were very friendly and welcoming, the room had never been cleaned properly - an example of this were the massive multi-layers of cobwebs in the corner of the room, just below the bed. I don't think the cleaning staff have ever bothered to check this. If you are a solo traveller, I kindly suggest booking a double room...or selecting another hotel.

Tho location is the only advantage of this hotel. You can walk until the main touristic point (near central station) in about 20 minutes. If you don't like walk there are 02 excellent tram lines. 09 which go to central station and 10 which go to museum area (Anne frank, van gogh, laindsplain). Was easy deslocate from there.

1) Wifi: the signal don't went to my room. And the reception lady said she can't do anything!!!!! I had to down to reception to use. But reception close at 01 am, and I was banished on this times. Fail!!! 2) BREAKFAST: when I'm downstairs to get my coffe, SURPRISE! They don't have breakfast since 8months ago. But I'm payed for this. FAIL! 3) SHARED BATH: was the worst experience in my life 4) VEEEERY THIN WALL: u can hear the breath on the room at side. It's awful! If u want a minimum comfort on your trip, AVOID!!!

Location is good, quite central right next to the university. Nice area. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Very spartan, budget hotel is the right definition (but not so cheap compared to the quality). Not too clean, the shared shower on the 3rd floor wasn't working. Room was quite cold.

The location

- Reserved room was not available (instead the reserved one room with seven single beds we got two separate rooms with double beds!!! ) - heating did not work

broken bed, broken door, no elevator, no breakfast small rooms, no amenities in bathroom, poor value for money

The location was really good - was walking distance to most hot spots of central Amsterdam.

Wasn't great having only one shower & 2 toilets for the whole hotel, but it turned out to not be too busy so was never too much of a problem.
