Hotel EstheréaSingel 303 - 309, Amsterdam-Centrum, 1012 WJ Amsterdam (Show map) Excellent, Score from 2505 reviews“Friendly staff, good location near centre and on a canal, nice decour and cosy layout (historic building so not all walls are at right angles) ”

London
Hotel Estheréa is on the Singel canal in the center of Amsterdam, only 1000 ft from Dam Square. This hotel is in a quiet area and benefits from classically-styled decor with wooden paneling. Each of the stylish rooms are romantically decorated and have a private bathroom and Wi-Fi (charges applicable). Some rooms have a canal view. Breakfast at the hotel features an extensive range of choices including bread, toppings, juices and fresh fruit. There are also warm dishes including scrambled eggs, boiled or fried eggs, sausages and bacon. The hotel serves coffee, tea or hot chocolate free of charge in the lounge with canal view. Furthermore, you can make free use of the wired internet in the lobby, visit the small library and get coloring books for children. Hotel Estheréa is in the heart of the city within walking distance of museums, the main shopping area and nightlife. You will find plenty of cafés and restaurants in the area. Hotel Rooms: 71

The comfort and size of the bed was the best thing about our stay at the Estherea. We stayed in room 110 which is located at the front on the building on the first floor. It had big windows providing a lovely view of the canal from both the seating area and the bed. The bedrooms are very comfortably furnished. The lobby/lounge area was comfortable and an excellent coffee machine was available providing free coffee etc throughout the day and night. Location wise the hotel is very well situated for sightseeing around the main centre of Amsterdam with only 5-7 mins walk to Dam Square and the main shopping area, 15 mins walk from the train station and again no more than 10-15 minutes walk to the infamous red light district. The only real issue I had with this hotel was the door separating the bedroom from the bathroom; there is no proper door. Instead there are louvre doors which do not close as a door would. Privacy was therefore not as great as I would have liked/expected from a hotel of this standard. Be sure you are comfortable with whomever you intend to share your room with! The doorway is small...is this perhaps why a proper lockable door is not fitted? One small issue also was the smell of cigarrette smoke which floated up into our bedroom from outside where people sat to smoke, we had to keep the windows closed when people were smoking. Breakfast was very expensive but there was enough choice and plenty of it provided you didn't leave it until the last 30 mins to go down.

The people were nice and the location was good. The room was very small and it was an interior room so there was no window with any view. It was noisy and often felt like people from other rooms were too close. We stayed at another similar type of hotel in Amsterdam (similar high price) and it was better on all accounts.

The Hotel is very comfortable and the rooms quiet. This is our 4th stay at the Estherea and as it's a 4 star Hotel and very expensive, you would expect to have free wifi but unless you book through the Hotel and are a friend of the Estherea it's 10 Euros a day which is very steep! The two computers in the lounge were usually in use. We were very shocked to see the state of the bar area on Saturday evening. We arrived back from a meal out and drinks about 23.30. The bar area looked as if a bomb had hit it. Really very untidy with crips scattered all over the floor and the bar top pilled high with empty and part empty glasses. Something I wouldn't have ever expected to see at this Hotel. The person who was supposed to be on duty at reception was disinterested in being around to let in guests and they ended up banging on the windows to be let in - I had to open the door for them. The tea and coffee making facilities had no milk and it's supposed to be available at all times. The duty person found me a tiny drop of milk. Hard luck if anyone else wanted any. Even if the Hotel was very busy on the Saturday I would have expected the standard of things to be 4 star not 1 star which it was! These comments are not complaints just a comment on what we found.

The cat was lovely. Some of staff were friendly. I ordered deluxe room, but only got classic room instead which was small and differrent as seen on picture.but hotel told me nothing different between delux room and classic room. Shampoo and conditioner has been used but the cleaners couldn't be bother to change it.

Liked only its location, expected much more... Poor room - awful wall decoration, for mushroom eaters, window - right to another wall and lift. Fan in toilet, not in bathroom (they are separated).

I liked the hotel, everything is clean and nice, furniture is in perfect condition and carpets are clean and new everywhere. There are many small important details which you will find nice and cannot ignore. I did not like hotel policy to get your money. I booked the room on one price and then less price appeared, but it was not possible to change. Also I was given less room comparing the description. I'd like to say they are too gridy, though if to make a dispute on the situations it's difficult to say who is right they or you. Formally they are right. The question is that not in each hotel such situations appear and you mainly do not want to be in any situations. So, try the hotel by yourself and hope you will enjoy your stay.

A central hotel, nice warm decor, discreet, in the heart of old city. Newly refurbished, excellent bathrooms good beds Staff are professiinal but rough in their approach. My rom was more expensive due to the view on the canal but it was the noisiest at night as noise insulation is far from perfect. You can hear loudly people talking in the street at night so I would recomend save your money and dont select room with aview foe a better night sleep at the end you dont need aview to sleep! Water runing in the morning is a bit loud I booked for 2 nights originally at obe price but had to cancell the 2nd night and although I did it in time my room night was then more expensive than originally stated, so better check as it is very unpleasant and not reliable information!

The hotel had tremendous admosphere and was very well decorated. The service was very good as well as the location. The personnel were very atentive to any request for help. The hotel is in a great location and the layout of the building is quite unique in getting so many rooms in a well layed out plan. The only complaint I would have is the hotel is both quite noisy inside and outside for lack of insultation and double pane windows.

Lovely staff and wonderful decor the drink facilities enhanced the use of the reception rooms for us and were a pleasure to relax in. Our room was far too small unable to move around the sides of the bed so problem to position suitcases plus wardrobe very small did not allow for dress length the room very elegant but not a place to linger in .In fact one of us got dresed whilst the other sat on the bed to allow for manouevre! Noisy in the early hours of the morning but tricky one out of your control

Room was elegant and quiet. The hotel was lovely with old world charm. The breakfast was very complete - even champagne! We liked the location away from the crowds, but a close walk to many attractions. Excellent restaurants within one block. Would go back! All the rooms are fairly small - even though we upgraded. Our room had the toilet in a small closet away from the bathroom. It was a bit strange, but okay.

location and friendly staff bathtub doesn't have a rubber mat and it was very slippery.so slippery in fact that I slipped and fell out of the tub and hit my head on the tile floor.for a moment i blacked out.all the hotel had to say was sorry that it happened. the room was not the one we ordered and it was very small.we had to put a chair in the bathroom at night so we could move around the room.you would think that when you book 4-5 months ahead that they would have plenty of time to make sure the customer gets what they requested,

Hotel Estherea exceeded my expectations. My room was beautiful, comfortable and overlooked the canal. The hotel was immaculate from the lobby, to my room, to the restaurant. Very friendly and helpful staff. I would gladly return to the hotel and would recommend it to anyone who wants a perfectly appointed room in a very central location.

The service and location were excellent. We arrived early and were very pleased to have access to our rooms within the hour. The complementary tea, coffee and cookies were also unexpected but much appreciated. I have recommended the hotel to friends and family.

First impressions at the hotel reception are extremely important and set the tone for the rest of the stay. The staff were very welcoming and professional. We arrived early in the hope that we could leave our luggage and explore the city whilst our rooms were being prepared. However, we were led to a comfortable seating area and invited to help ourselves to refreshments; our rooms were ready within the hour, two hours earlier than advertised. Fabulous! The hotel has a relaxed easy going ambience; the public areas and hotel rooms are beautifully decorated; the staff and customer service is excellent. I would highly recommend it.

Location along the canal was great . Warm welcome. Staff is courteous , efficient, and highly competent. Breakfast is very good, with free coffee available all day. Bedrooms are of a good size, quality of beds is fine too. Avoid arriving by car at this hotel : parking in the street is very expensive ( more than 50 euros per day ! ) . The parking of the hotel is just as expensive and only accepts (very) small cars. Some queue for checking out. Good hotel, although a bit expensive.

My original "Classic" room (#116) was small, gloomy and the furnishings weren't great so I asked if I could be moved and I was upgraded to a wonderful Deluxe room (#302) for the same price. The upgrade was carried out quickly and efficiently. The location on the Singel was great and in easy walking distance of most of the places I wanted to go. The breakfast was excellent. I've found it hard to review this hotel as my original room (a "Classic") was clean but not good value for money (furnishings were dated and too much for the room size without being luxurious, the room looked onto an internal courtyard where scaffolding blocked the light) so if I'd stayed with that room I wouldn't have been happy with what I'd had to pay. The coffee was from a machine at breakfast and too sugary, rather than made fresh. The staff manage to serve customers and be efficient without giving the impression that they care very much one way or another (except for the woman who upgraded my room), but I think that is a Netherlands-wide problem rather than specific to this hotel.

The hotel was very child-friendly, giving us a welcome gift for our son upon arrival and providing a small corner with children's toys and books in the main lobby for him to play. The floor above us was very squeaky. When the guests were in their room, our chandelier shook and the noise from their walking kept us awake. But, it is a very old building.

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was very convient to walk to many places in Amsterdam and the hotel was decorated very well. Parking was easy at the hotel's private parking space (albeit expensive). The only downside was the cost for a night was a bit high but not too bad for a nice hotel on vacation.
