The staff were very friendly and helpful. I thought that the complementary drink when you arrive was very nice. We stayed in the Deluxe Double for one night. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The highlight was the extremely large bath and excellent shower. There is also a large bed that is quite difficult to get out of in the morning. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Groningen for the night or weekend.

The one thing that would have been nice was some coffee and tea facilities in the room. You can go downstairs and get this but it would have been nice to have a coffee or tea in the room when you wake up.

Good staff, always a convenient place to stay

Very friendly welcome. Interesting and attractive old building which was formerly a French barracks, hence the name of the hotel. Excellent breakfast with superb coffee. On-street parking nearby which is free overnight. However, payment is necessary from 9.00am and maximum day-time stay is one hour. We were just staying in Groningen overnight so this wasn't a problem for us.

Groningen is a student city, so some noise can be heard at night. No real problem.

Very friendly, clean, a lot of style, but also relaxed. In the city centre next to a canal.

This is a clean, beautiful, and charming hotel. It is conveniently located, with an awesome and attentive staff. The food served for breakfast and lunch are gourmet and appetizingly presented. I look forward to my next stay.

We were warmly and graciously greeted by the reception staff (when have I ever been to hotel where I am warmly greeted, informed that they will check on the room, offer me a beverage while I sit for a moment as the room is checked and my bags are whisked off to be placed in the room?) The room was large, comfortable, modern design but tucked into a wonderfully historic building with huge timbered room. We had a large, luxurious shower with separate bathroom. The air-conditioning helped on a rain day. The windows opened out onto the street. The breakfast buffet was tasty - Continental style on most days, but scrambled eggs and bacon on one day. The lobby lounge served as a breakfast, lunch and bar location. There were comfortable chairs for relaxing and an incredible selection of LP records to sample. There was also a library of books to sample. The hotel is located on a canal and near the location for a business meeting at the university hospital. The staff answered all questions and assisted us graciously in locating restaurants and other highlights of the city.

A very pleasant hotel. The staff were very helpful. The lobby/bar area was always peaceful and hospitable. The Comfort room I stayed in was comfortable with a large, modern bathroom and the most enormous shower I have ever seen. I was not bothered by noise from the street at all. The location is very convenient for the old city.

The bathroom is great except there is no place to hang a towel. I didn't try the breakfast, but it looked a little thin for the price. There are a few coffee shops and cafes nearby that would serve as more economical alternatives.

The welcome from the staff was friendly and helpful. The bar food menu is reasonaly priced but limited, as is the breakfast buffet.

The room was very cold and the heating only came on for a couple of hours early morning. The window was only single glazed so all the external noise was evident all night. We should have known what expect when we saw the airline style earplugs on the bedside tables.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel and rooms are very clean and charming. I love to stay in historical buildings and this one was also very well situated for access to the city. I would highly recommend it.

The staff were superb. Breakfast was excellent and the room (a double comfort) was lovely with high ceilings and large windows.

Pleasant experience all round

Room 16 was awesome! It was an attic room with an amazing view from the 3 casement windows overlooking the canal and scenery below. There was no noise, even though ear plugs were supplied. Both breakfast and lunch were superb ( they don't serve dinner). The bed was fabulous in it being adjustable per side to a number of elevations. The shining light to our wonderful stay were all the staff, including but not only Bart & Benne. We were greeted by Bart with a complimentary drink and great service. By the time we left, all felt like family!! Taxi fares from the railway station were between €8 - €10

Not offered Scrambled Eggs and Bacon at breakfast. We discovered this option after our last breakfast was complete!

This hotel is a little gem - friendly staff, excellent location and lovely atmosphere.

Staff were super friendly and attentive from helping with city info, offering extra coffee's at (a delicious) breakfast to setting us up on bikes for the day.

Loved it! Super friendly, genuine, young and friendly staff. Geat bar/ breakfast room/ reading room with large long communal table on the ground floor. Groovy design touches in a historical building and therefore cool design is admixed with traditional Dutch narrow stairs, heavy wood beams and recessed windows. Right next to everything including the red light district for that authentic touch! But it took me a long time to realise this fact! Would recommend this hotel to anyone. The service was a stand - out feature as it was personal and friendly.
