Noisy, can here walking about in other rooms, toilet flushing, generally noisy. No wifi signal in room. Uncomfortable bed.
Very central, staff very friendly, we're very quick to our assistance when needed.
Location and price
Non working Wifi and no space in room for luggage .. You literally slept on top of your luggage.
You can hear what everybody is doing... The number of bathrooms is absurd considering how many rooms there are. Bathroom smells very bad.... Room was not clean at All.... I even found cutted nails on the rug.....
Dangerous stairs & unfriendly staff. Fire trap. Breakfast facilities were inadequate.
Breakfast is very poor; It does not have lift and the stairs are too short (as an old construction). If you have a big luggage, be prepared for a nightmare; There is no air conditioner nor ventilators; There are carpets on floor; WiFi is very poor. Conexion drops constantly.
No tea/Coffee making facilities in the room, No drawer space, no drinking glasses, No safe. Tiled shower floor was lethal when wet. No toiletries provided. No longer gay or gay friendly either.....it may have been updated but it is all style over substance......will never stay there again.
good style....much better place for the money than competitors
wifi only available in lobby....steep stairs....thin walls
No wifi period. Old rooms need fix up. No amenities.
In prior years, room was larger and had Safe, Fridge, Coffee Maker, dvd. New owners did away with all of this and I don't like paying more for less
The location is great, near Leidseplein and the museums. The bed was comfortable.
The bedroom was only slightly bigger than the twin bed. Several times I was woken up at night by noise from other guests. There is only one bathroom for the entire hotel, and it's on the top floor (no elevator). No air conditioning, bedroom was often too warm.
The position is great - very close to the tram station. All around the hotel there are a lot of very nice restaurants and bars.
Don't expect too much from this hotel. The room is extremely basic and old. For this price, next time, I'd rather stay a bit more away from the center, but in a nicer hotel. Public transportation in Amsterdam are extremely efficient.
Hotel is located close to most of the tourist spots, either by tram, bus, cycling or by foot! Really friendly staff and comfy place to stay in as well. I'm definitely recommending this as an affordable place to stay.
The only thing I can think of is the bed. Unfortunately, we were given two single beds pushed in together to act like one double bed and it was difficult to sleep in. Would have preferred to have a double bed as we were a couple. Didnt mind though, so I'm still recommending this place.
Good location, handy having a coffee shop next door. Rooms were clean enough.
The stairs or ladders depending what you want to call them
Location is perfect, 30 second walk to the nearest tram station, 2 minute walk to Leidseplein. You can walk to Dam Square in 20-25 minutes as well. The stairs are very steep and narrow, so if you have a big luggage, keep that in mind (although that is Amsterdamesque). I was very impressed with the big and clean and very comfy room, considering the price. Strongly suggest this hotel.
Small hotel, so if you have loud neighbors coming back to their rooms at 5 am, you may wake up. Wi-fi only works in the lobby, hence the crowds in the small lobby.
Friendly staff Good location Pretty clean Great bathroom Amazing shower
Very step stairs Rooms a little small Rooms smelt a little funky
the location was perfect. It was in the heart of the city. The bathroom was clean but we did not have to share, it was a private one. The beds were comfortable.
when I booked the room, the pictures were realy different but in the reality it was sooooooo small and dirty and the only window was old and broken and I couldnt open it. It was also written that there is free wifi but there is only in the reception. There was no aircondition. The biggest danger was the stairs, I have never seen something like this in my life, it was more like climbing a mountain. We paid 193 euros for two persons for two nights and I expected something better for this price or at least to get the room I saw in the pictures.
It is not fair practice to sell rooms based on a picture shown in Booking.com and when you check in hotel to be presented with a small 8m2 in a basement. This hotel should have different price range for different rooms becuse what you see on a site is not what you get when you arrive.
The location was perfect for me.
The fire alarm going off at 10:45 pm! I had to get up by 6:00 am.
Good location, nice enough rooms, helpful staff.
Wi-fi in reception area only?????? People, it's 2014.
The location is good , and the receptionist was a bit helpful
There was no wifi in the rooms . The room was very small . The room service man is a thief
Location Peter on morning reception Friday - Sunday
Booked as Golden Bear gay hotel in March 2014 but had actually been sold to Quentin Group in October 2013 - consider hotel as it is now was misrepresented. No dedicated breakfast room, now shoehorned into the, inadequately small, Reception area. Broken light bulb in bathroom not replaced during whole 6 day stay even though reported on first morning.
The hotel is located at the heart of the centre and is at walkable distance from shopping centres and major attractions. The hotel is extremely clean and the sheets are changed everyday. There are two coffee shops just below the hotel which makes it all the more interesting place to stay.
The hotel is difficult to find since it does not have a signboard with the name of hotel - They have written the name of the hotel group which is different than 'Golden Bear'. The stairs are extremely narrow and does not even allow a single person to climb up or descend down. They need to revamp it for sure or put a lift in the building - Its impossible to carry luggage and climb stairs. There is no wi fi in the rooms - A basic necessity which all hotel provides and this hotel does not. The double bed room has two separate beds and not one single - The beds move away from each other when you change positions while sleeping.
No 24h reception as advertised on the time of booking. Was not provided with the booked Deluxe Double Room, and the description of the room is not accurate. Many facilities missing. Wi-Fi is only available at the reception.
