No wifi period. Old rooms need fix up. No amenities.
The location is great, near Leidseplein and the museums. The bed was comfortable.
The bedroom was only slightly bigger than the twin bed. Several times I was woken up at night by noise from other guests. There is only one bathroom for the entire hotel, and it's on the top floor (no elevator). No air conditioning, bedroom was often too warm.
Hotel is located close to most of the tourist spots, either by tram, bus, cycling or by foot! Really friendly staff and comfy place to stay in as well. I'm definitely recommending this as an affordable place to stay.
The only thing I can think of is the bed. Unfortunately, we were given two single beds pushed in together to act like one double bed and it was difficult to sleep in. Would have preferred to have a double bed as we were a couple. Didnt mind though, so I'm still recommending this place.
Good location, handy having a coffee shop next door. Rooms were clean enough.
The stairs or ladders depending what you want to call them
Location is perfect, 30 second walk to the nearest tram station, 2 minute walk to Leidseplein. You can walk to Dam Square in 20-25 minutes as well. The stairs are very steep and narrow, so if you have a big luggage, keep that in mind (although that is Amsterdamesque). I was very impressed with the big and clean and very comfy room, considering the price. Strongly suggest this hotel.
Small hotel, so if you have loud neighbors coming back to their rooms at 5 am, you may wake up. Wi-fi only works in the lobby, hence the crowds in the small lobby.
Friendly staff Good location Pretty clean Great bathroom Amazing shower
Very step stairs Rooms a little small Rooms smelt a little funky
the location was perfect. It was in the heart of the city. The bathroom was clean but we did not have to share, it was a private one. The beds were comfortable.
when I booked the room, the pictures were realy different but in the reality it was sooooooo small and dirty and the only window was old and broken and I couldnt open it. It was also written that there is free wifi but there is only in the reception. There was no aircondition. The biggest danger was the stairs, I have never seen something like this in my life, it was more like climbing a mountain. We paid 193 euros for two persons for two nights and I expected something better for this price or at least to get the room I saw in the pictures.
It is not fair practice to sell rooms based on a picture shown in Booking.com and when you check in hotel to be presented with a small 8m2 in a basement. This hotel should have different price range for different rooms becuse what you see on a site is not what you get when you arrive.
The location was perfect for me.
The fire alarm going off at 10:45 pm! I had to get up by 6:00 am.
Good location, nice enough rooms, helpful staff.
Wi-fi in reception area only?????? People, it's 2014.
The location is good , and the receptionist was a bit helpful
There was no wifi in the rooms . The room was very small . The room service man is a thief
Location Peter on morning reception Friday - Sunday
Booked as Golden Bear gay hotel in March 2014 but had actually been sold to Quentin Group in October 2013 - consider hotel as it is now was misrepresented. No dedicated breakfast room, now shoehorned into the, inadequately small, Reception area. Broken light bulb in bathroom not replaced during whole 6 day stay even though reported on first morning.
The hotel is located at the heart of the centre and is at walkable distance from shopping centres and major attractions. The hotel is extremely clean and the sheets are changed everyday. There are two coffee shops just below the hotel which makes it all the more interesting place to stay.
The hotel is difficult to find since it does not have a signboard with the name of hotel - They have written the name of the hotel group which is different than 'Golden Bear'. The stairs are extremely narrow and does not even allow a single person to climb up or descend down. They need to revamp it for sure or put a lift in the building - Its impossible to carry luggage and climb stairs. There is no wi fi in the rooms - A basic necessity which all hotel provides and this hotel does not. The double bed room has two separate beds and not one single - The beds move away from each other when you change positions while sleeping.
No 24h reception as advertised on the time of booking. Was not provided with the booked Deluxe Double Room, and the description of the room is not accurate. Many facilities missing. Wi-Fi is only available at the reception.
Excellent location, very close to Leidsplein and to a Tram station. Nice bathroom.
No Wi-Fi in the rooms. No Air Conditioning. A bit pricy for a two star hotel.
Room was nice and clean, shower and bathroom was in really good condition
The hotel wifi worked only at the lobby
Rooms are clean ant neat
Wifi only in reception
Location, Staff were cool, Shower is pretty clean and awesome!
everything was pretty enough cool than I expected!
We havent wifi in our room
Location was excellent, easy to check in and out, proximity to public transit, restaurants and museums, safety.
Wifi was only available in the reception area. Even though we stayed there for 5 nights, we only had the room made once and only got one fresh towel for the two of us once. The room on the third floor was very hot. Breakfast was a bit pricey for what it offered.
The staff was very helpful, including carrying my bags up two flights of "dutch staircases." Room had an excellent view of the street and was large by dutch standards. The location was excellent -- in the heart of everything.
The internet was supposed to be available for whole hotel -- instead, it was just available in lobby. Also, the lobby didn't have a nice relaxing sitting area.
location was awesome and newly decorated room was very nice.
They didn't have any AC and it was really hot day outside so the room was intolerable hot. Even hotter than outside. Opening a window didn't help at all and when we asked for a fan the reply was "this heat wave lasts only for a few days". So did our stay at the hotel. There was no WI-FI in the rooms, only in the tiny lobby.
The location and friendliness of staff.
The staircase and inavailability of wifi in the rooms.
I have nothing good to say about this hotel. Avoid at all costs. I honestly don't know how last year, they seemed to be a good hotel (as evidenced by previous reviews), but this year, it just is a bad experience. Instead of a hotel, what I encountered was a private room of a hostel. That, in itself is not something I mind, as I travel in many different forms and have stayed in fancy hotels as well as dormitory rooms, but at least, be truthful in what you advertise.
First, let me talk about the most important issue: WiFi. I was in town for business, and so WiFi was rather crucial for me. Their website as well as Booking.com advertised them as having free WiFi throughout the hotel, but this was false. The WiFi (when the signal works, at least) is only present and available in the tiny lobby. And since my room was in the back building, I didn't have any signal at all. Guests sitting down on the chairs crouched on their devices were then a common sight, as everyone needed some Internet connection. This was very frustrating. Second, let me talk about the house-keeping. It is sporadic at best. Sometimes they would come in my room during the day and empty my trash can and make my bed, but other times they simply wouldn't. I stayed there for six nights all in all, and so I had plenty of experience in observing them. Also, my towels were never changed at all during the 6 nights I stayed. Oh, let's talk about the shared bathrooms which are located in the top floor of the back building. There were towels inside that were accumulating, yet nobody took them away to be cleaned. On Tuesday morning, there was one towel left by someone. On Wednesday, it became two, and yes, on Thursday, there were three. By Friday morning, when I used that shower for the last time, there were three towels piled one on top of another, still waiting to be cleaned. Third, the pictures they have on their website as well as on Booking.com are deceptive. There is no breakfast room; breakfast is offered right at the hotel lobby. Gone are the modern chic decor that the pictures suggest. Instead, what I had was pretty much just a glorified hostel.
