Grand Hotel Alkmaar  

Very clean, centrally located, friendly staff.

Noisy and difficult access for ground floor rooms, the room we stayed, 011, at ground flood had no windows that can be opened; poor facilities not reflecting the marketed 4 stars.

The hotel is right in the old centre, close to the cheesemarket. There are many nice shops in Alkmaar, and restaurant Riche and the Gulden Vlies are superb.

It is definitely not at four star level, except for the prices. Breakfast closes at ten but staff wants you to leave at 9.30 already. There is no information at all in your room, not about the hotel or restaurant and not about the city and surroundings. Bathroom was cold and no heating

Very friendly and helpfull staff. Excellent restaurant Prime location in the middle of the town.

Parking facilities are some distance from the hotel and quite expensive.

The rooms didnt look like on the picture but more like a real normal hotel. So nothing too charming there. The personeel is over friendly and a bit creepy. If you come for breakfast after 10 you will need to hurry up as they wont fill it up again. (Yes theya cted a bit as if but you could see that they didnt want us to stay long for breakfast...)

After leaving Grand Hotel Alkmaar, I stayed with my boyfriend at a five star Hotel in Amsterdam, because we were supposed to fly the next day to nyc. Since we changed our flight plans. We decided to check out of the Hotel In Amsterdam, and go back to Grand Hotel Alkmaar. Reason? Because I'd prefer to stay in a Hotel where they know how to provide comfort to a guest in rooms that are splendid, excellent service, great breakfast & accommodate my needs. I'm a New york girl, and I have New York standards. And at Grand Hotel Alkmaar they know how to treat you like a Princess.

We were welcomed so wonderfully. The rooms were so beautiful & amazingly brightly lit from the Skylight, and the curtains were nice and dark. The beds were so comfortable. I could go on and on,..Not to mention the BREAKFAST! Was exquisite. The Bread! Unbelievable. Dinner was amazing as well. The staff was very helpful in guiding us, where to shop and go sightseeing. The taxi service they provided to the airport was also such a pleasure. I have never had such a smooth and relaxing stay at a Hotel! And I've stayed in more than 15 Hotels all over the world this year alone! Basically: I liked every aspect of the stay.

we arrived on Saturday afternoon could not get near with car for street market had to park in publiccar park and walk 4 street with luggage not good.

Great location, friendly staff, nicely decorated.

No WiFi or ethernet connection in our room (109), despite what was advertised. In fact, I didn't find WiFi anywhere in the hotel. Room number was written on door in black felt tip pen - very unprofessional! No mini bar, also no telephone so unable to order drinks from bar. Dirty towel left in bath. No safe. No bin in hotel room (tiny bin in bathroom only). Breakfast was served 9-11 - we arrived at 10 to find breakfast nearly gone, and what was left was very cold. Tea cup cracked when hot water was poured in. I wish I could be more positive, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the building was lovely but there were just too many negatives.

We rented a JR suite, which was nice. It had a Jacuzzi in the room and a double shower. Nice breakfast and possibilities to have lunch and dinner in a nice restaurant atmosphere. It is located in the hart of the city so getting to the shops and the train station is super easy.

Almost everything in the room had something broken on it. The jacuzzi shower head hose had lose hanging parts that rattled when using the shower head. The mini bar was broken. We were not planning on using it but when we bought some drinks for the new year we wanted to have them cooled in there. but it wasn't working and empty. The wall paper had a tear in the middle of the wall. The toilet is at the entrance of the room and the only place to wash your hands is in the shower area which was in the back of the room. The TV in the room was really small for today's standards. The TV in the room we rented 2 years ago was bigger and it was a cheaper room. A regular room... Just some thing I would have expected to be perfect in any type of suite.

Great central location, welcoming and friendly staff.

The hotel is in a good location - close to the old part of the City and within walking distance from the cheese market and train station. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the breakfasts are good. The bedrooms are large and recently refurbished.

The first room that I was allocated had a really bad drain smell in the bathroom (room 101). As soon as I mentioned it to the manager he offered to move me to another room. This room smelled fine, but was at the front of the hotel, and was very noisy at night. It would have been good to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room, and a supply of tissues! Small things make a difference.

The Grand Hotel is situated in the old town of Alkmaar where there is a lot to see, excellent shopping and there are also numerous restaurants nearby. It is easy to cycle to the coast and also equally easy to go into Amsterdam as Alkmaar station is only 10 minutes walk away and the trains are very frequent. The hotel is housed in the old bank and post office and as such has retained many of the original features. It has been very tastefully renovated with high quality fittings.At present it is being extended,from about 17 to 40 rooms, into the adjacent building . Our room was at the back . It was very large and comfortable with twin showers, twin wash-basins and a large spa bath. A nice touch was the coffee machine which was replenished daily. Room service was excellent. We did not eat in the restaurant but it was very busy every evening which is a good sign. Breakfast was good. We would recommend The Grand Hotel Alkmaar for a holiday in Holland.

We were there during fair time and it was very busy and noisy until 11.00pm. Cooking smells in our rooms and also a sewer smell from the showers

Very close to the citycenter. Nice room and very good breakfast, Nice restaurang and perfekt service. The price was ok.

The bathroom was very big but we could not see any shelf. We couldn/d find any lift.

Beeing there with a car is problem, don't have any agreement concerning praking only sending you to public park house.

A beautifully restored building, decent breakfast, helpful desk staff.

Room was long and narrow, with shower stall at one end (very hi-tech--it should have had a directions manual!) and the toilet room and sink at the other. At breakfast, coffee was made individually in a very small cup! It felt awkward to ask for seconds. Much better to have a pot available.

In- en uitcheck. Kamer miste minibar die er wel zou inzitten. In zijn geheel was het niet echt schoon, er was overal veel stof.

De locatie van het hotel is echt super, je zit midden in de stad. En parkeergarages genoeg! De sfeer en uitstraling als je het hotel ( en de kamer) inloopt is ook erg mooi en gezellig!

De bedden zijn meer dan aan vervanging toe, daarbij 2 losse bedden en overtrekken, ik ga naar een 4 sterren hotel met mijn partner niet met mijn moeder of vriendinnen! Kamer was slecht schoongemaakt. Ook hoor je wel wat lawaai maar dat weet je midden in de stad. Ontbijt is idd erg karig... Al met al een aardig hotel maar staat zeker niet in mijn top 10.

Die Lage und die Stadt.

Im Bad gab es keine Toilettenbürste und es hat durchgehend stark nach Abfluss gestunken. Zudem war es immer bis mind. 24 Uhr laut aufgrund von Feiern im Hotel.

locatie was uitstekend! We waren iets vroeg maar konden gewoon vast inchecken en we konden na het uitchecken onze tas achter laten!
