HEM Hotel Amsterdam

Generally speaking, I believe the hotel offers reasonable value for money. I think that the breakfast provided is extremely good.

I did not like the smell of cannabis smoke that often seemed to be wafting around the corridors and lobby. I believe that the cost of the (excellent) breakfast is very high. It is substantially cheaper in New York, for instance. I was not happy with the cost of a coffee in the bar ... 3.5 euros is extremely expensive for coffee from a machine. And I thought that security in the baggage room, which has a broken lock, was non-existent.

The rooms are big and clean, the staff were all happy and to speak and were very good at speaking English. Was a great location just out of the city centre but with a tram line very close by going straight in.

food and drinks were very expensive. although staff were polite, they were not that welcoming nor did they try to help us. e.g. we asked for a takeaway number but the woman just said she didn't know one and that was it.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was top quality. It was nice to be able to open the large windows for fresh air. The tram to the city center was easy to access.

The beds were small and uncomfortable. Two tiny twin beds pushed up against each other. We could not snuggle together. The pillows were lumpy. There was mold growing in the tiles on the bathroom floor, in the grout around the sink, and in the floor of the shower.

The parking.

Bathroom was dirty. Told front staff but nothing done. Beds and bedding were old and worn. HEM might think about spending some of that overpriced gains on renovating the hotel.

The garden is very beautiful and well maintained.

The window in the bedroom wasn't in working order, when I complained I was sent an employee who was supposed to teach me how to shut the window, he then very galantly and with the most admirable face, slammed with all of his strength, shutting the window and looking at me as if that was completely normal behaviour and in working order. I didn't wish to argue and as it was fairly cold kept the window shut for the rest of my staying. I could've gone down and argued with the staff and I'm sure they would've provided me another room after I've gone through all that trouble, however since I was on a holiday I did not wish to go through that trouble.

Close to the city by public transport. Nice room. Staff from the hotel very helpful.

Bathroom was disgusting. Rooms very noisy. no well isolated. Anytime neighbours close the door you could feel it in your room. Difficult to find the hotel.

The position was ok and the breakfast is abundant.

Not much control on people over night. Some were very noisy.

Very good price for the room. Big room, very modern looking, nice garden in front. Me and my wife was very impress. We have a lot of space remaining after we put the baby cot.

The elevator was not working to that level (3rd)

Room was good. Easy access to public transport.

Staff very friendly & helpful.

It doesn't have a ton of "character", but the price was right & it was clean with decent size rooms.

I liked the fact that it was placed in a quiet area with easy acces to the city center by tram.

I didn't like the non smoking room policy

We liked the efficiency and the friendliness of all the staff (Front desk,housekeeping and restaurant staff.) The size of the room was big.Clean room and bedding.Room was cleaned and bath towels were replaced daily. Excellent for its value. Don't get put off from the lift to the 4th floor (shabby looking & slow, but once you get to the room. Good surprises awaits you!)

Maybe just the lift. (too small& slow.)
