Close to a tram stop Very dodgy area and the facilities in the room were of poor quality. Security was poor and bathroom was basic and dirty......not sure how I can say this and it not sound like a complaint??? Overall it's not actually very cheap/good value for the standard.

I recommend this hotel to solo travelers and group of friends. Believe me what is written on comments disgrace the hotel. The hotel is next to parks and rivers, 5 mins from the tram, nice big room, food on the reception, nice check in - out machine! If you are a group of friends who everyone knows why you travel to Amsterdam believe me you will not care at all for the carpets that mosts criticized here! The cheappest hotel I found in amsterdam bsides the hostels. I do not recommend this hotel to families with children and to people who have high standards for their hotel selection.

Amsterdam is a very interesting city, this HEM hotel is a real dump. Worst hotel I have ever been to. Awful experience. Really bad place, rude staff. There is a parking lot, 1 km away, where you can park at no charge. I used that place, it's safe, don't give this hotel 12.50 euro/day for parking. Don't waste another 12.50/day/person for breakfast. It's a rip-off.

Positive points: - Air conditioning. - The tram runs really near the hotel and it takes you to the city centre in about 20-30 minutes. - the receptionists from the morning and night shift very kind and patient whene you speak to them in Dutch,,, very nice!! Negative points: - a member of the staff, the one who works on the afternoon and evening shift- I presume from Arabic origin- had really bad manners and was really impolite when he "explained" to us that there were not double rooms for us. - There were no irons available in the rooms. However their website offers irons for customers. When we told the receptionist in the afternoon that we needed one (that was one of the reasons why we had chosen this hotel) he told us that customers tend to STEAL them. Does he presume that we customers are thieves??? He said that they tend to do the same with hairdriers!!! We felt accused of stealing things while doing check-in,,, - The windows in our room could not open and no fresh air could get into the room. - We had to change our room because the TV set did not work at all.

Nothing. Just got back...its was just soo bad! ....The receptionist told us to make bookings using the internet in the lobby...at a cost of 5 euros??? After which having made the booking was made to wait 10 hours before we could check in! Promised us an early check (we got there at 5am) in once rooms where cleaned but it was all just false hope....we checked in with everyone else at 2pm.....hotel is very expensive, not worth it...televisions are poor! Views are poor...in a run down town or what ever they call it...had a tramp beg me for drugs and not money??? Pure money making business so be aware!! Go somewhere ELSE....we stayed at etap the next day, half the price, so much better and wasnt a far drive away! Old rooms....poor service, rude staff, lots of confusions, pricey, breakfast at 11 euros each? Location near run down town....seen kids hang around at 5am in the small car park? Location near lidl's??? Not worth the money....under staffed had to wait ages in queues....breakfast hall/eating area directly outside rooms??? (I was on 1st floor) noisy like hell at 6am...AVOID Trust me! Im a londoner!

Frankly speaking I didn't like anything at all. It is terrible hotel. Believe me photos look great in booking.com but in reality it is messy place. Cleanliness of rooms terrible, everywhere lot of hairs, dust and sick on floors. I am in shock. In booking.com photos that hotel looks really nice but when you are coming to that place everything is different. If you want waste your money order that hotel otherwise please find something else. I am traveling a lot but I am seeing such a king of hotel first time. Staff don't want to help at all.

I was very disappointed with the hotel service! Not what I expect from the pictures on the website. Unfriendly staff, unauthorized entry into room by staff without knocking, phone not working, heater not even functional. Sewerage pipe leakage in my room and stinking smell too. Very lousy and old hotel. You can get much better accomodation with the same price than this! My whole trip was a bad experience...

24/7 reception staff was very helpful, answer all our questions to the best of their ability. The hotel is not in the city centre, but there is a tram line (number 2) that stops near by and goes to all the main places (laidse plein, dam square, central station), we were just a short walk+ a few minutes tram ride away from the centre. The room was made up every day and we got our bed sheets changed every few days, we asked for extra pillows and got them right away. Because of the very disant rates, the hotel is also very popular with young all-you-can-smoke tourists groups; though there is a strict non- smoking policy inside the hotel, the front garden and even the roof and the fire escape stairs were packed with hazy teens at all times.

Well, it was cheap and we saw previous comments so we basically knew what to expect :) If you are not demanding and looking for a good price this si definitely the right place. (But be carefull, since you're far from center you have to pay 2.60 each time you get in the tram!!...or 7-8 euros for 24 hours...15 For 48 hours...so it maybe not worth it...) Tram station is quite close though. Location is crapy, bed sheets were dirty, you can not open the window...horrible smell :) ...bathroom was horrible..anyway if you positive you get through! :)

i sent to the hotel an email just to confirm the reservation from booking and to my surprise they answered me the next day. the room was pretty comfy. the staff at the reception was kind. althought the hotel was a bit away from the city center, we didnt have any prob since there were tram 2 and bus 358(after midnight). although we had our room cleaned almost every day, im not sure what the Cleaners did except changing the towels and making the bed. I pulled the curtain and found trash from biscuits behind it.

Frankly, it was one of the nastiest hotels we've ever stayed in, and I travel a lot for my work. When the basin tap was running foul water came up through the shower - when I complained to reception they did nothing about it - when we came back in the evening it was just as bad, and the whole room smelled of foul water. Also, the lights only worked intermittenly and the hotel was noisy - other guests were running and screaming in the corridors all night.

Nothing except the location, it is well connected to the city center by the tram. Pretty much everything. The stuff is very unpolite, specially the guy that was in the reception on Dec 27th evening. Inside the bedroom it was the Elevator´s Machine Room! All night long listening the elevator coming up and down.... And of course, the elevator´s engine making its own noises. If you go, try to avoid room 344. After requesting the reception guy a room change, without even looking at me, he said to me: "it is what we have...". And thats it. Is that the way to treat a customer? It also seems that the hotel was built 15 years ago and no body invested not even a cent in maintainance!! I strongly discourage to pick this hotel. I'd rather prefer to sleep under the bridge...

The wifi was down for our entire trip and staff were rude when asked about it. It is quite a distance from the city centre? On check out day we heard a knock on the door and called out that we were still there, next thing you know the cleaner had opened the door and walked in. The heating did notvwork well either.

“Yes the rooms are basic but we knew to expect this and was very, very impressed with our standard room. For the small price we paid the hotel was immaculate, clean and modern. Very friendly and helpful staff too, a safe and secure environment but still close to the main hustle and bustle with good transport links. Although we only stayed for one night wish we had stayed longer as the bed was sooo comfy! Just what we needed for our short break, somewhere clean and cosy to get our head down.” Laura, Brighton & Hove |
