A home away from home. Het scheepshuys is a place to unwind in an authentic friendly ambiance. This unique villa rests on the edge of Breda’s old city center. Behind its facade lies a veritable treasure of art deco. Built in the beginning of the last century and recently renovated, many of the original features have been preserved.

Original parquet floors, wainscotings, marble mantelpieces and glass panelled doors help create an opulent ambience indicative of yesteryear.

A colossal wind vane in the shape of a Dutch East Indies Company merchantman of yore adorns the roof.

Behind the villa, a terrace looks out onto a large garden surrounded by towering trees. It is an ideal place to leave behind the pressures of work and day-to-day worries.

Guests can use the hotel bicycles on request upon availability.

The modern amenities of this renovated hotel do not detract from an atmosphere with echoes of the past, and a good old fashioned, Dutch warm welcome.

Food & beverage

All guests can use the kitchen for coffee and tea facilities, a microwave, a fridge and a dishwasher.
The hotel can recommend several restaurants nearby the hotel for lunch and diner. Breakfast is served in the hotel, with a view on the garden. Guests can use the terrace in the summer.

Area information

Lying between Antwerp and Rotterdam, formerly a fortified city of significant strategic importance, Breda retains a more peaceful past with a weekly market that takes place every Tuesday as it did since it began in 1321. These days, there is a variety of restaurants and bars to choose from.

Travel information

By car from the A27 motorway:

- Take the Breda Noord/Dorst exit (16) following signs for Breda.
- Continue through traffic lights (around 1.5 km) and the hotel is on the left near the HERO factory.

From the A16 motorway:

- Take the Breda Noord/Prinsenbeek exit (17) and follow signs for Breda.
- Follow the northern circular road for Utrecht for about 6 kilometres
- Turn right at the Centrum 9600-9900 exit onto Kapittelweg street.
- Turn left at the first set of traffic lights and the hotel is at the first crossing.

Public transport:

- Take bus numbers 1 or 7 for Heusdenhout/Brabantpark and alight at the Brabantplein stop.
- Follow the road for another 200 metres and the hotel is at the first crossing.

A taxi takes 5 minutes from Breda Central Station.

Please note: Check in on Saturday until 6 pm (from Sunday until Friday until 9 pm). Later check in is only possible in consultation with the hotel

Please indicate your estimated time of arrival on your reservation.

The hotel is not permanently staffed. The staff of Het Scheepshuys would appreciate it if guests give a call app. 10 minutes before the actual arrival at the hotel. This gives the opportunity to welcome all guests personally.
