On the borders of the IJsselmeer, you find the splendid former isle of Marken. Even though it was only connected with the mainland in 1957, the atmosphere of old has never ceased to reign in the pretty island, with its colourful costumes, still worn especially on festive high-days.

Hotel accommodation is available on Marken again !
For almost 35 years the old hotel on this former and authentic island was not in use. Being the only hotel accommodation on Marken, the hotel now offers seven nostalgic hotel rooms, all differently decorated in characteristic ´Waterland´ colours and equipped with ancient elements and splendid stylistic photographs of Marken.
Here you can enjoy the silence, the changeable skies above the IJsselmeer or the surroundings of the island during a weekend or short holiday.

Hof van Marken has become a magnificent location with atmosphere outstanding for receptions, feasts and parties, etc. that can be concluded with an overnight stay.
Historical elements of the old premises anno 1905 are kept in the contemporary and pleasant hotel. A unique historical photo exposition, composed from private collections is to be admired on the walls of the restaurant. The collection, acquired partly by the co-operation of the Marken Museum, offers an image of life on Marken in the beginning of the former century. The bed-and-breakfast character and personal approach makes Hof van Marken a unique location.

Food & beverage

With personal dedicated care a delicious breakfast is served on the time requested by the guest. During the summertime it is possible to enjoy breakfast at our quietly situated terrace. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from Wednesday until Sunday. The kitchen is known for its cooking with daily fresh, local and seasonal produce.

Room information

All rooms are decorated differently in characteristic Waterland colours. With its interior from antique and flee markets, the nostalgic rooms distinghuish themselves from standard hotels and offer a magnificent view of Marken overlooking meadows, the IJsselmeer and harbour.

Area information

The UNESCO nominated Island of Marken is situated only 20 minutes from Amsterdam and can be reached by rural villages like Durgerdam, Uitdam and Zuiderwoude.
On approaching the isle of Marken, you will be caught by the wide view of the Gouwzee waters and the further beauty of the authentic island. The White horse lighthouse and the wharfs will be lying ahead of you and the feeling will come over you to be away from it all for a while.

Bus 111 from Amsterdam CS to Marken.
Boat Marken Express Volendam-Marken.

By car:
A10 ring road Amsterdam in the direction of Volendam. Take the first exit - Monnickendam, N247. Go straight at the roundabout and follow the Marken signs. You can park your car in the public parking lot at the border of carfree Marken.
