The Breakfast area of the Express simply has the 'charm' of a cantina in a hostel: loud, noisy, simple (and dirty) tables, crowded, instant coffee, nothing fresh, the cold cuts not worth mentioning. Well, this is definitely not ****-Star-worthy let alone **-Star! I was utterly shocked and left at once!
If it hadn't been for my friends who stayed next door at the Holiday Inn, I would've never experienced the huge difference between Breakfast services: both HI hotels are listed as a ****-Star-Hotel, so I assumed the Breakfast at the HI Express would be the same as next doors - how wrong I was!
The Holiday Inn indeed serves an amazing, outstanding and beyond delicious Breakfast with various hot plates, a huge variety of bread and cereals, fruits, yoghurts, fresh juices as well as freshly poured hot beverages, fresh cold cuts of all sorts of sausages and cheeses and much more - situated in a very cosy Lounge area where they also serve 24/7 delicious, heavenly meals to any guest! And no noise at all although the Lounge was full with people!
There is one entrance for two hotels: the Holiday Inn and the Holiday Inn Express. The latter is to the left of the revolving doors and then you take a lift to the reception on the 2nd floor. I was checked in with no problems and given a room on the 10th floor actually expecting just a basic room based on the name of Holiday Inn Express - how wrong I was ...! The room was amazing: bright, large, tea and coffee making facilities as well as hangers for my clothing! I had booked a Single room and was actually given a Double room all for myself! The huge bed even had pillows with sashes on them to tell you if they were hard or soft pillows.
The bathroom was also amazing with a very large walk-in shower! You could fit 4 people in there easily - well, if you wanted to of course! Plenty of towels along with a note on the wall saying that reception can provide you with any toiletries that you may have forgotten! And the Free Wifi was excellent thoughout my whole stay considering I was located on the 10th floor.
Check out was smooth as well. The only issue with the hotel is that it's charging €20 a night to park there - in my opinion that is very expensive!
I was ever so impressed with this hotel itself, the helpful and cheerful staff and of course my room ... but next time I will definitely stay at the Holiday Inn as the Breakfast at the HI Express is beyond words and left me speechless, an absolutely NO-GO for a ****-Star-Hotel!
