It's location, very close to city center. The staff was very friendly and the bathroom was always quite clean to be shared.
Loved the location and the beds, so comfortable!! The description was real and to the point. The heating (winter) and cleanliness good!! Even breakfast was included: amazing value!
The climb to the third floor was a challenge..Didn't want to leave the room after that!! And not a plant inside, but we could see the Hortus from the window
The shared shower with HOT WATER, the breakfast, the atmosphere, the wood, comfortable bed
From 8pm until 11pm there was not heating system in the room and we were unlucky just because we arrived at 7:30 and the window was open (I put all my staff on). From the late night everything fine.. ByTheWay highly recommended
If you're looking for value for money, you won't find a better place: quiet location, very clean and comfortable room which was well heated (very important in November!) and the free wifi and breakfast is a real bonus. We had a double room with our own shower and found sharing a toilet no problem at all. The perfect place to crash out at night after a day of exploring this amazing city. We had never been before and had no idea what to expect. One member of staff was particularly helpful and took the time to illustrate on a map all of the highlights and secret spots of the city, as well as the dos and don'ts, which we found incredibly useful. For the cheap price, this place exceeded our expectations.
Location near downtown
It is not easy to find it in the night arriving
The staff are super relaxed and the modest, but free, breakfast was very much appreciated. One clean toilet and shower per floor, but never had to wait for anyone. Overall, great value for money.
You could hear -everything- that was going on in the other rooms. The staircase to the top floor is steep and narrow, but also to be expected in Amsterdam. It was just a bit of a struggle with my large bag.
All areas were very clean. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
The house itself is probably overdue a refit, although everything worked and functioned as it should. The room was very basic, only one socket two towel hooks for hanging stuff. Breakfast was fresh but very basic.
Warm receiption and always willing to help and advise.
Noise of doors and smoking in rooms
Good location Good breakfast
Steep Stairs Very loud
It is a great little crash pad to base yourself in for exploring Amsterdam - really short walk to everything that you would want to see. Very comfy bed and the room was very very clean. Secure - keys to the door and the street, and also a safe in the room. Breakfast was basic but adequate - no orange juice but it is a budget hotel, so my expectations weren't high.
The wifi connection was intermittent and it was annoying to have to log in and out all the time. But, in the grand scheme of things with so much bad stuff going on in the world, it is was not a major problem.
Room 11 Cold room radiator did not work Poor breakfast / no cheese
Quite good location, super close to Rembrandt Place. Very cheap. wifi was OK.
not very clean.
The beds were surprisingly comfortable, and although the corridors were noisey at times, I managed to get a nice nights sleep every night. The location of the hotel is ideal, with around a 15 minute walk towards Dam Square and trams available right outside of the hotel. The free breakfast provided by the hotel is reasonable and I'd advise all people staying to take advantage of. Overall, I'd recommend this hotel to someone who just needs a place to get there head down e.g. a traveller or tourist looking to spend most of their time exploring.
Avoid room 3 where possible; it has a rat trap in clear view (which give me thoughts that there may be rats), it's right next to the stairs which can be quite noisey in the morning and the window looks out on to a brick wall - I would imagine the rooms on a higher floor are a lot nicer though. Didn't feel very welcomed by staff upon arrival and felt a burden to ask them questions about the hotel/area. Some of the staff weren't very helpful with information and seemed pissed off when asking them questions.
It's very close to Waterlooplein, and not so far from the bars of the red light district. There's an excellent coffee shop (Bluebird) not far, along with a big Albert Heijn and some cafes for your eating needs.
The room heaters aren't very good, so when you're smoking with the window open prepare to be cold in winter. Bring warm pajamas and slippers and you'll be fine. The wifi dropped out every 20-30 mins, making online gaming a bit difficult.
Casual and relaxed atmosphere. Nice and friendly staff. Great location with walking distance to everywhere.
There was no chair in my room, so no where to hang my wet towel. It was hard to see the TV screen, because of the angle from the bed, you had to stand up, to be able to see what was on the screen. Would have been nice with a bed lamp.
The check in receptionist, very rude and arragon. He is not helpful at all. The other two staff Ms Kelly and Nick is helpful. we arrived on 20th October.
Location of the Hotel and staff Ms Kelly and Nick helpfull.
The location,the silence,the crew
The bed is impossible for a couple, its 2matresses instide of one and every night we couldnt sleep well because there was a hole beetwin us,also there was a lot of noise from doing constractions very erly in the morning
Away from hustle and bustle but few minutes on tram away to everything great can make tea etc when come in staff are always good and breakfast is free thanks again see you soon :)
Totally nothing bad about hortus
Great breakfast and coffee
We had a private shower, but no private toilet
It's all here for the budget traveller. Toker or not. Warm, comfy , clean & convenient. Constant coffee & eat as much as you like breakfast means I couldn't fault it for the price.
It would be churlish....
Quiet location just outside the busy city centre, close to pubs and restaurants. Breakfast was plentiful and a real bonus.
Smoking is allowed in the rooms, so my floor was smelling of smoke most of the time.
great value for money, clean rooms, friendly & helpful staff. Good breakfast to start your day.
having to continually 'like' the hotel website to be logged on to wifi was annoying
Free wifi Cleanliness Location Friendly staff Breakfast
Breakfast, Courtyard, Window in room (17), efficient, location.
Bed needs a headboard.
Situated in traditional building, tram station is 2 minutes walking, very close to Botanical Garden and the Zoo and not far from other places of interest. Good and friendly stuff, ready to open the door and answer questions any time. Rooms are small but OK. Bike rent is possible. And the breakfast is OK. We enjoyed our stay.
Everything was great.
