- Not good value for money - Single room is very very small - WC not in the room (shared one and this is not noted in the booking.com)
This hotel has an excelent location, new acomodations a good breakfast, confortable and cleaning rooms.
There are many stairs.
Lovely shower facilities/wash products. Staff were friendly & helpful. Pleasant area in which to eat the adequate breakfast.
Although I was aware the rooms were small, I hadn't realised how small....
Had a lovely room overlooking the canal. Very comfortable beds and fabulous shower. Staff were very friendly and welcoming even though it was their official opening night.
Really quirky hotel! We loved the reception and bar area with unusual decor- books covering the walls. The rooms were also well decorated and quirky! Cosy and comfy! We got a really warm welcome from lots of friendly staff! More than willing to help with directions!
A few more choices at breakfast would have been nice. But breakfast was included so can't really complain!
Great quiet location Clean and comfortable room Simple but enjoyable breakfast Friendly staff
Steps to top floor very steep indeed WIFI didn't work on top floor Room was very small (110) Two singles together a pain!
Spotlessly clean. Fantastic location, close to all main attractions yet quiet and peaceful! Only 5 minute walk from central station. Wasn't expecting much, the online description almost played it down but when we arrived we were very pleasantly surprised. Ultra modern and the room was warm and comfortable. Lovely bed and top notch shower/wetroom.
Maybe its the Yorkshireman in me but €28 for a bottle of wine is a bit excessive (even though it was delicious).
Nice reception and bar area.
We were a group of 8 so booked two rooms which had 2 double beds. One of the rooms overlooked the canal and was fine. The other room was in the loft and was so tiny and claustrophobic. The shower and toilet were tiny and separate rooms within the lift. The shower didn't even have a hanger for a towel, you had to leave your clothes outside the door. An absolutely awful facility. Also the water didn't drain from the shower so you had to stand in a level of water while showering. There was an awful noise each morning as we heard water fill the radiators. I complained but felt that my complaints were not being taken on board as they said other people had no problem with that room?? It simple should not be sold as a room for 4 adults in my opinion. They gave a 10% discount on my room on checkout, which was not satisfactory taking all things in to consideration.
Location is very convenient. Their motto of "Your urban residence" is very appropriate. Quiet residential street, canal views, and interesting literary type decor and typical Dutch row housing. Gives you a feel for what it would be like living here.
Caution...if you cannot navigate narrow spiral staircases or pack light, then you may wish to reconsider your desire to have the Dutch Urban residence experience. No elevators available. But we did it. A couple of fairly mobile sixty year olds!
Location of the hotel is very convenient, decoration is original. Rooms are clean. The breakfast is very tasty. I would like to stay in this hotel when I visit Amsterdam again.
1) interior design of Max Brown is really lovely, very warm and very Dutch style, this is one of the reason that I booked it. 2) all of their staffs are super friendly and very useful for giving a lot of tips for discovering Amsterdam
1) it's actually quite a hotel made for sight seeing but for bussiness trip 2) with a very narrow Dutch style stairs, for me is not a very big problem but for whom has big suitcases might be. 3) no room service, it's not a super big problem for me, just not used to. 4) poor breakfast, this is the only one point that I'm a bit upset with Max Brown
Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Helpful staff. The bed was soooo comfy!
Breakfast could have been a bit more varied. The corridors were quite noisy when guests and staff walked about. 2 out of the 4 lightbulbs in my room blew the moment I turned them on (very small point!)
My wife and I spent 4 nights in a superior double room with canal view at the end of October (1st floor). The hotel is very nice, a little different and best of all perfectly located on a lovely canal junction a short walk from Central station. The free breakfast is basic but excellent and easily set me up for the day. The staff were very helpful always. One thing that did surprise me was the small size of the room, you could barely walk round the double bed. I believe rooms in general in Amsterdam are on the small side. The bed itself was fantastic. The size of room did not bother us too much for the length of stay but I do feel as a superior it could have been bigger. All said, I would happily stay at Max Brown again. Best wishes
+ close to central railway station
+ room, bed and bathroom are very very small: e.g. also very hard to place two trolleys in the room + breakfast coffee to pay was not good (there is also a free coffee that is included in the breakfast) + although the bar is open 24x7 they do not really want to serve you drinks (e.g. no coffee after 10 p.m.) + cupboard in the room was not fixed properly + it was really too expensive for so less value
Cosy, feels like home. Like the style.
Couldn't me more happy with the hotel. Location is great. Staff are wonderful. Etc.
Nothing? The hotel is perfect.
My daughter and I stayed here in October for 4 nights and had a fantastic stay, very clean comfortable hotel, lovely quirkey decor and staff were so pleasant and coudn't have been more helpful, would definitely go back
An amazing historic, quirky building, nestled on a quiet central canal, yet less than a minutes walk to the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam. Our room was beautifully finished with lots of attention to detail and views overlooking the canal. OK, I've stayed in larger rooms, but what do you expect from a building over 200 years old! The bed was incredibly comfy and we slept like babies each night. I've stayed in several hotels in Amsterdam over the years and this was by far the best. Can't wait to go back.
Well priced, central location, warm atmosphere.
Foyer/bar/breakfast area a bit cramped and chaotic in peak times.
The location was spot on, staff friendly and helpful, continental breakfast very acceptable. Would definitely go and stay there again when next in Amsterdam.
The stairs were very narrow - no lift - and suitcase became very heavy when going upstairs - ok for younger people but older people may struggle though staff willing to carry cases up for you.
Enjoyed the massive pillows and decoration was so cosy. Breakfast was tasty, easy to find. Shower was amazing. Everywhere spotless.
Loud, can hear when other people flush or use the showers also the floorboards are quite thin so you can hear when someone is walking.
Everything was excellent. Have rarely felt so much care from the staff. The rooms are absolutely amazing and the location is the best.
Noise from the corridors. Thin walls.
