Location was fabulous. The staff were all incredibly helpful and generous with their recommendations. Loved hiring the bikes. Great decor. Would stay there again although would request a different room.
Our first room was very dark but we were given an alternative when we asked which was much brighter (although it had a tiny bathroom/wet room with shower over the loo). We were only there to sleep though so it wasn't a problem for us. Twin rooms are two beds pushed together but with separate duvets which might be an issue for some people.
We only stayed one night, but the bed was very comfortable, like sleeping on clouds. And comp breakfast was very nice :) Just loved the design of hotel and room.
attentive staff ease of check in access to the room location
Perfect attention, good break fast and good bedroom Quality. They even saved my lii
Super friendly and helpful staff. They made our stay thoroughly enjoyable and were very helpful with straightforward tips and advice on the city. They recommended excellent restarants and even made a reservation. I would strongly recommend this place for those looking for a excellent small hotel in a quiet part of the city.
Shower drain was plugged and flooded the bathroom. But I'm sure they fixed it quickly.
convenience, location, cleanliness, helpful staff
room (no.4) was claustrophobic - too small - small window and airless
Small rooms as you expect in Amsterdam, but loved the decor. Bathrooms, flooring, beds, the bar all of it. They have changed the name from "Chic & Basic" thankfully which was really underselling it. Also appreciated the water dispenser with fresh lemon lime and mint in and the nuts at the bar. Staff were very friendly and capable for the main part. I would definitely go back there, it seemed like the best of the boutique hotels that I saw and in a quiet but central area, right near the Jordaan which is my favourite district.
There was a mishap with our booking on arrival. We were given our room key on arrival but it was clearly occupied - it had been given to somebody else, so we had to take a another room without a canal view. The guy on reception didn't seem confident in what he was doing and also said we hadn't paid in full when I knew we had. However staff the next day apologised and sorted it all out and we did save money. My only other quibble was there was an additional steps going down to the ground floor beyond the stairs that was very difficult to see the way it was decorated. I fell and twisted my ankle on it and was then hobbling round Amsterdam sight seeing. I pointed it out, hopefully they have put some tape there now to mark the edge which should solve it.
Location was perfect, right on a canal in a quiet street with a step perfect for people watching. The room was clean, tastefully furnished and the shower room had the wow factor. Breakfast was good, staff friendly.
We booked a loft room which we thought would be at the top of the building but was in fact on the ground floor. It was a lovely family room but not a loft! Neighbours in an adjoining house were noisy until late at night and we were woken early by decorators outside our room. Unfortunately my family all woke up covered in insect bites presumably from the beds.
Perfect location, gorgeous cafe room downstairs.
Very friendly staff and a nice welcoming wine :) TY
Stairs and corridors may at first seem a bit frightening but rooms and service is perfect.
Nice decoration, it seems all the attention has been put on style, none on basic expectations from a hotel (confortable enough rooms, good sleep, safety)
This hotel is absurdely overcharging for a very bad service: - rooms much too small (not even space to store 1 big luggage next to the bed) - small room space entirely filled with uneccessary huge pillows, too big to sleep on - IMPOSSIBLE TO GET A GOOD SLEEP - rooms with NO WINDOW (even in category "superior"): dark and almost no light of day, the photos on the website are a cheat - Rooms are DANGEROUS for a kid, even if they know because you booked a baby bed (stairs in the room with no door, needles in the decoration at baby level, lamps without bulbs next to the bed...) - WIFI not working in the rooms - Choice at breakfast almost non-existent (no yogurts, no fruits, no pastries, no eggs... just a bit of plain bread, cheese and ham) This hotel is my worst disappointment ever and is absolutely not worth the high price it is charging.
People was really friendly and the hotel was very close to city center and central station. The offer you a free breakfast that was really helpful! Very comfortable bed, very clean. We slept well without noises (it was not a weekend)
The room very small and without any ventilation, no window at all. Fortunately they put a fan there to help you. There was a slight unpeasant smell in the small toilet coming from the pipelines but not a problem if you close the door. The pillows were a little extra big for us but this was not a problem!
Everything about the hotel was amazing it made are holiday 10/10.
The staff was very kind and friendly. The location was extremely convenient to go around Amsterdam. The delicious free coffee.
The winding stairs and no air conditioning.
service was excellent nice free Dutch breakfast
newly decorated rooms lacked a few neccesities. i.e. no closet or wardrobe no soap/shampoo shelf in the shower
We loved the location and the décor of the hotel - it is very quirky and different. The steep stairs are a challenge (especially with suitcases) but that just added to the character of the hotel and underlined what an historic building it is. We had a very enjoyable stay and highly recommend the hotel.
We found the pillows are unusually large and overstuffed but it really wasn't a problem - it just wasn't our preference.
A small basic hotel decorated with good taste, clean, and managed by friendly staff. Lovely breakfast , just the necessary to start your day strawling through Amsterdam. Excellent coffee espresso machine and option of different types of tea.
A little bit noisy on the morning, but didn't bother us much since it helped to get on time for breakfast!
Location. Friendliness of staff. Cleanliness of room.
Bad wifi. No airconditioning.
My husband had a health problem, my son was robbed and in both situatons, the staff was very helpfull!
Very good location The stairs might be a problem for some but we found them nice since this is a typical dutch house
we were not told that our TV was not working. After asking if there was any problem with the TV and/or fixed telephone, we were told at the reception that indeed our room was having problems with the "technologies" and the recepctionist suggested us to change the room but we would need to pay an extra EUR50 or so??!! The idea was not to stay at the room watching TV, off course, but we didn´t like the attitude. Moreover, they are very strict with the breakfast timetable...we arrived once at 10:05 and we were told that the breakfast was until 10am!! Don´t like this inexistent of flexibilitaty and hospitality.
The location was second to none, It was small and compact but had everything you could want. A big surprise was the free continental breakfast all you could wish for. Very good value for money. Will recommend it and use it again.
Nothing it was just the job....
Small breakfast included, excellent location. In the middle of everything, yet quiet at night.
TV didn't work and during our stay no one sorted that out, staff didn't seem to care much about it. Well we weren't there to watch TV so it's no big thing really, just annoying and it raises questions about maintenance and whether the hotel is run professionally or not. Worse though; there was a serious mould issue in the shower room that got really bad when wet causing an allergic reaction. One occupant ended up with itching watery eyes and hard to breathe, that didn't seem to alarm staff either. At checkout the hotel had the opportunity do a nice save, apologize and compensate but did neither, we were still charged the pull price. Won't return. A friendly advice, at least stay off room 210!
the pillows (!!), the impossibility to open the windows and the dark little place to have the breakfast
beautiful rooms and decoration and location , very helpful friendly staff
I had room 406 and was shocked at the steepness and narrowness of the stairs. I feel trying to take my case up and it ruining my stay. I had to ask for help and it meant I didn't want to come down for breakfast and go up again after . You should warn about the stairs and the windows didn't open so it was impossibly warm .. although you are not responsible for the sunshine I know. It's a shame I was impressed apart from the stairs were very steep and umanagable in my opinion . Spoilt my time there
