The monumental building of Vischpoorte is situated in the heart of the old town centre, a stone's throw away from the River IJssel. This is a historical place that was visited by merchants from all over Europe, who entered the village via the IJssel through the so-called Vischpoorte, the city gate. The gate was named after the nearby fish markets, where fresh and salt-water fish were sold. This is one of the oldest (dating back to the turn of the 14th century) and most important gates of the city.

Food & beverage

On the Nieuwe Markt next to the hotel you will also find t'Arsenaal and the Dikke van Dale, the two best restaurants of Deventer. On request we can reserve tables at those restaurants for you. At less than 5 minutes walking distance you will find the most entertaining square in the Netherlands, namely the Brink. Around the square there are discos, many cafés, restaurants and terraces.

Room information

The drawing room of the hotel apartments partially looks out on the River IJssel. The stylish apartments feature a seating area with a sofa, satellite television with more than 1500 channels and free film channels.

Most apartments have a modern built in kitchen or a well-equipped kitchenette, featuring a fridge with freezing compartment, a gas burner with 4 rings, oven, microwave, coffee machine and a kettle. All the cupboards are stacked with cooking utensils, plates, cutlery, etc. The deluxe rooms offer a bath, the studio's feature a shower. The bedrooms have a pleasant atmosphere and are furnished with double beds or with two single beds.

Hotel De Vischpoorte is situated in the centre of the old town, along the River IJssel.

With the ferry you can reach across the river and there you will find a beautiful nature reserve (the Worpplantsoen and the Ossenwaard) and also the sawmill Bolwerksmolen.

The neighbouring villages and hamlets will provide ample space for cycling and hiking enthusiasts and guests who enjoy a natural environment or love to encounter culture within that countryside. Every season you can fully enjoy rural estates, such as Nieuw Rande, the Kranenkamp or Oostermaet. There are many different hiking and cycling routes through this area, set out by the Dutch AA and the Tourist Information Office.
