The location of the hotel was good, It's within walking distance to the heart of Amsterdam and all the major attractions. There are a lot of pubs close by and a laundromat is just across the street. I had a single room and it was very small. So small that there is no place to set your luggage or unpack anything. I had to set my bag in a corner and stack everything up on top of it. The staircase is very narrow and steep, which is typical of all the buildings in the old part of Amsterdam. The buiding is really old, so it's understandable that there are going to be some issues and if you want to live the Amsterdam experience, any of the hotels in the center of Amsterdam are going to have some type of issue to deal with. For me, I just needed a place to sleep and shower. If you want five star comfort & room service, I would recommend a more modern facility. If you want to experience the heart of Amsterdam, then definitely stay in an old hotel like this one.

The location is the only acceptable thing about the hotel. It started with a not so friendly receptionist not being able to receive payment via our credit card (he said the limit was full - not true!). I was distracted, from my thoughts about the hit our cash supply just took, by the pleasure of carrying our 30-kilo luggage up the ridiculously-steep- stairs. A minute after appreciating the smallness and antique feeling of our room (because the furniture was ancient) the bathroom door fell onto my wife's face. After this point, I was no longer able to care about small things like there being no hairdryer or slippers or shampoo.

Very friendly and helpful staff - so important for a happy stay. The woman on the day shift and the man on the afternoon/evening shift were especially helpful with suggestions, even writing out a list of special places, with addresses! Room was clean and fairly comfortable, and the cleaning staff were equally nice. The man on the night shift was surely and very unhelpful, eg, we had asked about the possibility of early check in via email and had received a very kind reply that they would do what they could do, but when we arrived early in the morning from our ferry/coach from Britain (7:30 am), he demanded to see a printed copy of that email and said it was not possible that we had received such an email as they never allowed early check-in! We understood that early check-in might not be possible, but his surely attitude was totally unnecessary and inappropriate.

I was extremely disappointed with the hotel. I was completely shocked at how different the room was to the rooms advertised on the website. For 80 Euros I would not expect this kind of dismal excuse of a Hotel. They need to really consider re naming this as a hostel not a Hotel. The room was even in european standards tiny, beds were old and lumpy, pillows had little or no stuffing. I would not recommend this place.

The fact that it was close to Remrant square was not bad. It is not a 2 star hotel , Should be without stars. Rooms very very small, no separation with toilet which is in the room.

The hotel looked nice and the staff were really friendly and helpful... But, my subterranean room wasn't actually in the hotel building, but in a separate block across the street - considering I could get a budget room in London with a bathroom (had to go upstairs to a shared bathroom here) in a hotel that didn't have the appearance of a hostel, I don't think the price was that great - however it was comfortable enough, and Amsterdam seems expensive overall - the bottom line, I guess, is that I wasn't in Amsterdam to sleep!

Very clean rooms. Located in the historic center of Amsterdam, closely to main attractions (Nine Streets, museums etc). Rooms were small, but nice and true to the spirit of the city. The view from windows of two rooms we stayed in was great - on the tiled roofs of nearby houses and on the canal respectively. Facilities need upgrading, especially faucets/drains. The shared bathroom didn't have any shelf to place the soap/shampoo/etc. The water drainage was very slow, both in bathroom and in the faucet. It did improve a bit after we asked to fix it, but was slow anyway. I can recommend this hotel only if you are not very picky about the quality of the facilities.

Small and comfortable. Convenient for Leidsenplein and Rembrandtplein. Very quiet neighbourhood. A new coat of paint would do no harm. Not recommended for people who find it difficult to climb steep staircases.
