Hampshire Hotel - Lancaster AmsterdamPlantage Middenlaan 48, 1018 DH Amsterdam (Show map) Review score 6.6 Score from 167 reviews“Liked the location as it was away from the busy parts but centre easily accessible by the great tram system which also runs quite late - tram stop just diagonally across the road opposite two bars. Nice quiet location opposite the zoo and near the Dutch Resistance museum.”

Grubby carpets and curtains. Could do a lot better on sprucing up even for a budget hotel.

There was a power cut at the hotel for six hours. I was not warned in advance of arriving at the hotel, and I received no compensation for this. I brought it up with the management, who claimed they only found out one day before. When I explained that this was very unfortunate since I planned to work on a conference paper, I was told that "well, we can't work either". I find it hard to believe that the power cut was announced only one day in advance, and I think that it's only appropriate that no matter how last minute this information is received, all affected guests should be emailed. This is the last time I stay at an Eden hotel, and I suggest that if you want staff that treats your concern with respect and intelligence, you take your business elsewhere.

The location was very quiet, even though it was close to the center. Which was nice. The room was a bit small.

The position: the hotel is directly linked to Dam square and to the central railway station (tram number 9) and from the hotel you can easily reach the Nemo Museum just with a ten minutes walk. The staff at the reception is not as helpful as you would expect in such a touristic place. The room wasn't perfectly clean and the bathroom was too small.

The beds were comfortable, staff was nice enough. I did not like the location you would of been better staying on rembrandt square, the website was misleading as it made the hotel seem far nicer then it actually was.

I liked the fact thatthere was free wifi in reception And the rooms were tidy and had a lockable safe. I would recommend this hotel if you are not expecting comfort and just want a bed for the night because the beds were clean at the very least. Didn't like the fact that the toilet wasn't clean, and the sheets had no fabric softener because I came up in a red itchy rash after sleeping in them. The room was previously a smoking room which you could smell staleness upon entry and didn't like the cleaner taking away the unused normal teabags and replacing them with spiced tea and earl grey. I booked a superior room abd didnt like That there was no bath after walking around thd city all Day and pulling muscles in the freezing cold despite being wrapped up, a bagh would have been better than a shower. ThR restaurant wasn't open when we were hungry about 6-7pm and there was no bar to obtain drinks or snacks. I also didn't like a double bed having two matresses I've had this before but not like this room where we fell between the bed so much easier

Situated in a quite part of Amsterdam but with local amenities only a 5 min walk away. Well serviced by a tram stop only 2 mins walk from door of hotel. Room was on the small side.

Very good staff at the reception. Too noisy: I was distuberd by the noise from the other rooms as well as from the street (a tram line is next to the hotel). There was no warm water in the shower on the last day of my stay (oddly there was warm water in the tap at the same time).

Staff were friendly and helpful when asking for directions. Use Booking.com a lot but have to say that this hotel was the most disappointing. Upon arrival, was informed that my credit card, which was used to secure booking, wasn`t valid. Upon arrival in uk, my bank informed me that the hotel had attempted to withdraw 4 different amounts from this card, all of completely different amounts to daily rates, and all declined! The rooms were adaequate but had poor sound proofing. Could hear noises from adjacent rooms and from above. Walls and floors appeared thin. The en-suite was particularly small especially the toilet, so, like me, you are over 6 feet tall, you will struggle to use facilities. Be prepared to walk as hotel is easily 15minutes from Rembrandt Square. Thought the hotel was grossly overpriced given the negative points above.

Very very dissatisfying my stay in that hotel. Would never recommend it. I have photos of the room, carpet and shower if you need it. But the worse part is that they charge after we left $ 208.00 and I had to call the bank in usa to stop payment. I am now at Rothenburg and the hotel and service are wonderful and the previous hotel Albert was also good. I will be traveling for a month in Europe and I don't know if I will be confident with another hotel through booking.com. Thank you and hope to have some courtesy from your company. Mr

Liked the location as it was away from the busy parts but centre easily accessible by the great tram system which also runs quite late - tram stop just diagonally across the road opposite two bars. Nice quiet location opposite the zoo and near the Dutch Resistance museum. Nice couple of bars, cafes and restaurants within metres of the Hotel. Guests appear to be business people so the hotel also was nice and quiet. The first room we were given was not what we paid for - subterranean room and too small for two people and not the 'two mattress' type of bed we paid for. While the bed was a small double it was definitely really only suitable for a single person as regards comfort. Reception said it was a 'standard double room'. However, we knew that wasn't the case - there are larger 'standard' double rooms as my husband had stayed there two months before at half the rate we were paying for that weekend. We asked to be moved but as the hotel was full that night we had to wait until the next day. As we did then get the type of room we expected (just the standard double room-with twin mattress) we were then quite happy. We would stay there again but ensure that we get what we paid for. I see an earlier reviewer had a similar experience.

The staff were brilliant, especially the gentleman on the evening shift. Compared to other city locations we've stayed in (Madrid, Seville, London & Paris) with the same rating, comparatively the room was very small, dated, and the carpets were stained. Essentially the room was far more basic than €100 a night warrants, even with its location.

Not a lot - we felt that the hotel was totally overpriced - the breakfast was not included and was 15 euros per head - we went down the road to a much cheaper alternative. The room was smelly, and despite several requests the safe remained broken and the carpet was stained and rather dirty. Only the staff tried to be helpful and were all pleasant. As above - a dirty overpriced hotel which was also noisy on the nights we stayed there. It needs a thorough clean and the carpets replacing in the bedrooms.

The staff were kind and helpful. Go elsewhere ! The room's floor-to-floor carpeting was filthy, the room very small, and its door, like that of all other rooms, could only be closed by slaming it shut. Hence, much noise every time a guest entered or left his/jer room. Net result: restless nights. Breakfast wasn't what the posters promised: it was basic, nothing more.
