coffee and tea are provided for the whole day. free wifi. the view is great. the room looks really old and dirty (in fact it is quite clean but it just look dirty) and it looks like a boarding house in high school instead of a hotel.

We loved the quirkyness and design features as well as the location. The breakfast was lovely and the simple evening meal we had was good. It's difficult to say whether the Hotel was good value as we didn't stay anywhere else but it definitely wasn't a rip off but also wasn't cheap. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again when we return to Amsterdam for another mini break hopefully in the next couple of years. I burned myself on the hot water system for making tea and coffee. It was tricky to work and unpredictable. Although I thought it was a good idea to have communal tea and coffee making facilities so people mixed; I would have them on every floor as they are only on even floors and we were on the 5th floor so it was a bit of a trek to get tea to have it in bed, and ideally in 3* and above I would have tea making facilities in the rooms. Maybe that's because I'm British. We didn't actually meet anyone because there was communal tea and coffee stations!

I made the booking by creditcard for a close friend of mine due to his stay in Hamburg at that time. I wanted the hotel to use my creditcard to pay for my friend, they simply refused unless I would go there in person, absolutely insane, I will never book this hotel anymore!!

The hotel is nice, at first I didn't like the idea of the shared bathroom but then I didn't mind having a shared bathroom since it is very clean and not far from my room. The hotel is very nice and has a nice design. There is only one thing that bothered me, I asked the reception to pay in cash when I checked in, because using my credit card is too expensive over seas. They told me when I check out I can pay in cash. Instead when I checked out they told me sorry we already used your credit card and I was shocked.

τπτ ιδιαίτερο.η αυλη We prepaid the room 4months ago and when we arrived they charged us from a card half of the price of the room as evidence.and every day they gave us of 50euros a day until we checked out. And the shower was in the bedroom and the toilet alone on a second room!

The design of this hotel is beautiful, the food is great, and the staff is friendly and helpful. They have many different types of rooms with different layouts. In the one I ended up in, the front door opened into the bathroom, which I didn't like.

Quiet and I had a nice view of the canal. A girl in the reception could be more polite.

The room had view over the water, and the tram drives right in front of the hotel into the city center. There is a free exhibition in the building and the staff is friendly. People have to be prepared for "alternative room decor". We had a large semi-empty room, with an open shower in the middle - no shower curtain or other things (=water everywhere and no privacy, luckily we were a couple)! We had no hooks for towels. No matter if you pay for 1 or 5 star room, you wait in line at the same busy reception (no difference in service).

Location - museum of history. Expensive - no coffee facilties - no fridge/bar - no hairdryer - old tv that did not work very well and had incorrect channels programmed (according to hotel literature) - extra charges (breakfast and city tax) seemed mean considering I paid almost 200 Euros for one night!Reception a bit gloomy and institutional - also very small.

Location, cost, design, friendly staff Objects left in corridors which should be in storage - rolled up carpets, cardboard boxes, parts of artworks, etc. Carpet in the entrance hall should have been secured to the floor

My partner picked the Lloyd Hotel for out trip, and I wasn't really sure what to expect - the hotel's history as a detention centre sounded a bit grim, yet the cafe / restaurant area downstairs looked lovely, but some of the rooms on the hotel website looked a bit sparse... However, when we arrived (after a long walk in the freezing cold), the hotel was lovely and warm, and the staff very accomodating and friendly. The room was - as I had previously feared - a bit 'sparse' in terms of decoration and layout, but after a night's sleep I came to the conclusion that it was actually a warm room, and the bed is one of the comfiest beds I have ever slept in! I must also mention that the the hotel food, which ranges from the cheap and cheerful to the expensive and experimental, was fantastic - and most of it is made in the hotel kitchens (the bread is freshly baked throughout the day). All in all, slightly unsual hotel, but don't be put off by appearances and its past reputation - we thought it was real value for money (the 1* - 5* rooms suit every budget) and the staff were lovely. Also worth adding that tram stops at the front of the hotel take you either to Centraal station or near the Museums every 5 mins. Depending on individual taste, it might not be everyone's cup of tea, design and interior-wise - some of the room lay-outs might look a bit 'stark'. However, despite looking a bit severe from the outside, the hotel feels very warm and cosy inside, and has a nice atmosphere. Also, location might not be perfect for those wanting the city centre on their doorstep - bit of tram and / or walking travelling is required.

I really loved the hotel. It's history and design/art orientation make it a really cool place to stay, with things to do and see inside even when the weather outside is bad. It is also centrally located and easy to get around.

The room was beside the 2nd floor entrance to the function area which had a pop-up market - extremely noisy at times. The room door could have been more sound-proof.
