The location is fantastic - right near the red light district and close to the bus/train station (5 min walk). Breakfast was included and sufficient - cereal, bread, toast etc. Would recommend on location. Room was very small, had to move furniture around to fit our suitcases. It was quite noisy, could hear everything outside and at reception downstairs. Was impossible to sleep before midnight (if you need to) and was busy outside all night. Not for light sleepers! For price and location it was decent and what you would expect.

Hotel is in a good location. Short walk to main train station and in the middle of all the happenings of the red light district. Rooms are small and could do with an upgrade. Bit of a shock to walk in and see the room - not really of the standard we had come to expect from similarly priced hotels around Europe (most expensive and least impressive basically!). Shared shower and toilet aren't great and we needed to request the sheets to be changed when we arrived as they were clearly dirty. All that said, it's 'character' grew on us!

The location was excellent The staircase was almost like a ladder. Very dangerous and very hard to move even a backpack up and down the stairs. The rooms did not feel very secure and the noise from the surrounding rooms was pretty loud. It is cheap for a reason. I would only stay here if you plan on staying out very late and only needing a few hours of recovery sleep. If it weren't for the location there is no reason to stay here.

The location was the best factor of the Mallemoolen. I also enjoyed the breakfast. The room was cozy and had everything I needed... if it had ensuite facilities it would have been perfect, although they were only in the hallway. Lacking in ensuite facilities - will consider staying next door at the Koopermoolen next time.

stayed for 4 nights with my boyfriend and found it to be great value for money and the location of the hotel was fantastic. reception staff were pleasant and very helpful. free internet access and although we never went for breakfast, it was included in the price. our room was serviced everyday and being able to smoke in the bedroom was a huge bonus. overall, i was quite pleasantly surprised and would absolutely stay again. we had a shower in our room but had to share a toilet and to be honest i used it as little as possible, it smelled really bad and its obvious that it is not cleaned on a regular basis, the hotel has a 24 hour reception so i don't think there is any excuse for it to be left like that. especially as its suppose to be a guest toilet. the stairs are crazy but if your a regular visitor to amsterdam then you'll know that thats amsterdam for you. i've climbed worse!!

Absolutely ideal location, not just because mins away from Central Station but esp. Because you're right in the middle of everything, all amenities you might fancy, the historic heart of A'dam, the shopping district, Dam Square, Damrak, etc...my room was very clean & perfectly adequate to my needs, bathroom & shower room always spotless, no matter what time you needed them (I shared those facilities with other lodgers, you see) and the morning breakfast is absolutely amazing, there's so much to choose from, it's more like a grand buffet (and something I'd recommend anyone staying there not to miss it, no matter how tired you might feel in the morning...well, it is A'dam you're staying in, after all, enough said)...I Liked just-about everything at De Mallemoolen, including all members of stuff I dealt with : always friendly, supportive, helpful, incredibly easy to deal with...top marks from me, no hesitation whatsoever...(well done, guys!...you all deserve the praise!!!) x Wouldn't say I didn't like it but, perhaps, the rate charged for a single room was a bit too high, in my honest opinion...then again, you're right in the centre where hotel rates are fairly similar (if not higher, unfortunately) and I chose to stay during one of the most notoriously pricey periods (the week of New Year's Eve & New Year's Day, no less)...so, it was okay by me, the pleasantness of the all-around stuff more than made up for any of that...and one more thing : if you're not used to spiral & narrow stairs then be careful, esp. Early morning or when slightly stoned (!) 'cause it can be quite challenging, to say the least...personally, I just loved it and it added a lot more fun to my A'dam experience (honestly, just take care with the stairs!)

Excellent staff and location. Perfect for travellers visiting Amsterdam just looking for a place to sleep and recharge. If you're used to 5 star resorts this place isn't for you, but I couldn't have been more pleased.

Good hotel in a good location ideal for a short stay. Room booked was not room given but could have upgraded for more euros for the room we had booked! Luggage was not in a secure room so anyone could have taken it or some contents.Good side reception put medication in a secure place so didnt have to take it around with me.

Make sure you'll get a room on the first floor, otherwise it will be a nightmare. Steps are soo high, and the spaces inside the building where we were are so tight that if u are claustrophobic you'll get really scared. Breakfast was great and the staff very friendly and helpfull.Best position ever. But I would never come again.

The location was fantastic. The staff were really helpful. Everything our group needed for a good price. I would recommend this place to my friends and I would stay there again. Some of our group had to share toilet and wash facilities. But it wasn't too bad.

Excellent. As a 'solo traveller' and as a business-man the hotel is more than sufficient to stay in. The room I had was clean, nice and warm, simply good. It was the second time I did book a room in this hotel and will be my first pick again.
