Good location. Room was on the canal and was nice to sit and watch the boats go by.

Rooms are in desparate need of an update. Priced very high for what you get.

when booking smoking room option was not given, however in the room brochure was said 1st floor rooms were smoking.

The location in Amsterdam is excellent, and the history of the building is interesting. The exterior view of the building is quite nice.

The interior of the building and the rooms are very much showing their age, and in dire need of remodeling. Examples: Very poor acoustic insulation in the walls and ceiling; room furniture was quite run-down, the seat of one chair was completely broken; the space between the end of the bed and the desk was too small to even pull out the chair; the bed and pillows were extremely old, lumpy and uncomfortable. The television was a massive old CRT-tube unit, it has been many years since I saw one of these in a hotel, and I certainly didn't expect to have one at an NH hotel.

Stayed in single room on 4th floor. Perfect location in the heart of Amsterdam. Free late check out until 1pm on Sunday! Staff in front desk was really nice and helpful. Beautiful Café De Jaren next door with nice canalside terrace.

Bed was a bit uncomfortable.

The night porter was a great talker, and we spent a good time (ab 20-30 minutes at midnight time) waiting for the computer to come back to life so that I could check in ...

1. With my stay circumstantially extended by ab. 5 hrs (until 9:45 pm), the staff demanded a full-day payment (turned out to be ab 10% greater than that a full night cost). Meantime, my room was neither cleaned or tended. Shame! 2. TV TOOOO OLD, The remote wouldn't even support the SLEEP function. Very inconvenient. 3. Shoddy ... 4. Breakfast was quite regular, except there was no staff to help you except. 5. I was told the Great Rembrandt painted his world famous "Night Watch" on the hotel’s third floor, and the Beatles were staying their in 1964... Must have been quite a very different place and service then ...

Hotel is now very 'tired' - needs a renovations. First night they were unable to provide dinner - a 4* hotel!

One can hear a lot of the noise of the streets so if you are sensitive try to get a room more to the back of the hotel, also with a view to the canals. The breakfast is quite ok but not that good that would be worth it 20euros when not included in room price.

My room overlooked the Amstel river. With the snow it looked like a picture postcard. The hotel is very well situated for visit to Amsterdam

The single room was very small indeed. The hotel itself looks like it has seen better days.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location was perfect for my purpose.

The hotel advertises wifi and the usual amenities such as tv. These items should be functional to the if they are being used to sell the hotel. I had to be assigned a new room for hopes that the wifi would connect better. After spending 30 minutes on the phone with swisscom, unable to connect, they determined it was because the room was too far away from the router. Much to my disappointment a move to a closer room (to the router) did not solve the problem, unless I stood directly next to the room door I was unable to connect reliably. In addition to that, the tv did not work properly, it would not turn on. And lastly there was a bulb out in one of the bedside lamps. Things certainly happen, however it seems to me the hotel could do better to check it's own technical amenities as these are all easy fixes on the hotel side but frustrating to the hotel guests as they are unable to do anything about it...

The historical building and location

Firstly I had to wait for an hour to be checked in (while I was the only guest arriving late at night) because there was some problem with their system. The decoration of the hotel is super old and shabby, the room was dirty - curtains have never been washed I guess, being a non smoker I was given a smoking room, and after waiting for an hour to be checked in I was just too tired to change it;(. But the most impressive part of this so-called 4 star service happened during the breakfast next morning. 45 minutes before the breakfast was over there was almost nothing left - I was expecting them to renew the table, but it never happened. Besides that waiters were standing in line in front of me and other guests for the coffee and tea for themselves. Also wifi is just horrible - very bad signal and everytime you have to put in a new user name and password. I mean usually I don't bother to give negative feedback but in this hotel just everything was wrong and absolutely not on the level of 4 stars. I don't advise to anybody to stay in this place. Amsterdam is full of more decent places.

We stayed for a wedding and the staff were very pleasant and the wedding itself / venue at the hotel was excellent. The hotel is also situated in the perfect location for both visiting Amsterdam.

Whilst this maybe our own fault, (I don't remember booking a smoking room) the room smelt heavily of cigarettes and as we arrived late it was the only room left. I did ask if we could be moved but nothing happened as the hotel was fully booked and nothing was mentioned for the second night (we only stayed two nights) some of the items in the room were missing such as toothpaste (not really a bit deal having to ask for it as the staff were quite happy to give us some but it was still a pain having to go get things when we'd just arrived at the hotel, you generally assume everything will just be ready in your room when you arrive). After the event and whilst of course it was a long night and the staff working incredibly hard during the event, at about 6am we awoke to loud laughing outside our door where two staff had plonked themselves, chatting loudly and woke us up. You don't really expect this in a hotel.... especially at 6am in the morning. Finally and this might be just an Amsterdam thing, there was an additional €20 tax charge even though we'd prepaid which was an unexpected bill but again maybe this is just an Amsterdam thing.

Location excellent staff always friendly and helpful. Quite expensive but I think hotels in Amsterdam are expensive

The fact they charged €1,200 to my debit card which wiped out my bank account, still waitingfor it to return to my account! Quite noisey rooms.

The location close to the centre/railway and frienliness of staff. The tram drops you off near the hotel.

My room (111) was very small and there was a lot of noise from the street, particularly early in the morning. There is no air conditioning so if you want fresh air you need to open the window and put up with the noise.

Hotel decor was very tired. Poor facilities - no bar or restaurant.

The bed was not very confortable.

Breakfast very good, but overcharged on checking out for extra breakfast not taken. Great views from room and very central location. Room spacious and clean.

On checking out staff insisted that we had to pay VAT which we informed them we had paid already with the booking. We knew we had to pay city tax 5%. We informed them that this was highly unusual but we could not leave until it had been paid which was not a nice experience to end an otherwise pleasant stay. I will be contacting Booking .com to ensure a refund is paid.
