Old NickelNieuwe Brugsteeg 11, 1012 AG Amsterdam (Show map) Review score 6.8 Score from 296 reviews“A few minutes walk away from the Amsterdam Central train station”
Anthony,
London
The family-run Old Nickel is just a short walk from Amsterdam Central Station. It offers budget rooms, a daily breakfast buffet, and a bar serving 70 different beers. This small hotel has guest rooms with a sink. The shared bathrooms are located outside the room in the hallway. Some of the rooms are in a separate building. A continental breakfast buffet is served each morning. You can relax in the bar, which has original wood paneling from a 17th-century ship. From The Old Nickel, you can reach Dam Square in a 10-minute walk. The Martelaarsgracht tram stop is 650 ft away, and offers direct access to the Museum Square with tram 5. Hotel Rooms: 25

The accommodation was simple but everything we needed. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the shared bathroom facilities were only between our room and one other, only 2 rooms per floor and the property was very quiet (except for the bell tower outside). Despite being at the top of the staircase (almost like a ladder) it was great with a spectacular view over the city. The location is brilliant and really easy to find. Close to everything you need. I read the bad ratings before staying here and found them to be completely overexagerated. As long as you're not expecting the 4 Seasons, the place is great. The rooms weren't cold, the shower wasn't hot and cold, the stairs are easy to deal with, I didn't run into any dodgey characters. All in all, a great place to stay.

Amsterdam is expensive and this was the cheapest centrally located room I could find, but 60 euros is not what I consider a deal (but most backpackers I could find were 35 in a 10 bed dorm). I stayed in a single room that looked onto the main street which was nice. The room was clean but small (expected as the hotel is in a typical old-style Dutch building) The breakfast was decent, sliced bread (normal and white), bacon and egg omelet, jams, coffee or tea. The bathrooms and showers are also shared. All in all for central Amsterdam it was a good deal and 3 minutes walk to Central Station. The only negative I would have is that the shower was really hard to control the temperature...either hot hot or cold. Kinda of annoying.

Clean room, nice and good staff. The hotelroom is in the center of Amsterdam where it all happens where it also at night can be a bit noisy. The room though is situated in the middle of a busy people passingthrough street but is made soundproof. Once the windows closed you can not hear anything ! So had a very good quiet sleepingnight. Very, very nice and good.... Good clean and nice room for a real good price !

location and the bar downstairs rooms were very basic, with bathing/toilet facilities down the hall. much better value for money at other hotels in the area.

great location. it is simple private hotel like many others in A'dam, made in old buildings out of flats. don't expect much, but if you plan to spend all day in the city - that is the best option. breakfast was too simple.

Charmy and cozy in a tight space. Small room, no bathroom in room, dirty shower without soap or shampoo. Noisy at night - but that can be expected and forgiven, in all honesty.

I liked the location cause is very near Central Station, but is in the boundary of the red light district so it's quite pretty noisy If your purpose is to have fun and you don't care much about sleeping and resting, considering the price, this can be useful for you. If you plan to rest bit, this not your place at all. Considering that the city is expensive, I think Old Nickel is an alternative if you need to expend 2 or 3 days (which was my situation) no more than that..

Friendly staff, nice pub. We booked in for two nights and only stayed for one. The staff were friendly enough but there policy is anything goes. We knew this before we arrived but wasn't realy sure what to expect. As a result we ended up paying for another hotel, lesson learnt. If your going on a budget or you are perpously going for the funny fags this is perfect for you, if your not interested on the drug side of it stay away because it stinks of the stuff.

Old Nickel is in a perfect location for a short visit to Amsterdam as it is within walking distance of sights and allows for easy access to public transportation. The rooms are tiny and toilet & shower are in the hall, but everything is kept very clean.

Excellent location and facilities. Good price, great breakfast. Very fast wireless internet included. Uncomfortable pillow. Loud at times due to the Karaoke Bar below, but not a major issue. Very easy to lock yourself out the room if you go for a shower or to the toilet!

A few minutes walk away from the Amsterdam Central train station For the price, the room is too small, no sports channel, No table to use to work. In all the price of 70 Euro not good for the price based on hotels I had stayed in Amsterdam in the past. The staircase too steep and winding so if you have luggage very difficult to take your luggage up to the room

“I liked the aspect especially as we had a good view of the action outside. We could have watched the cyclists all day. Breakfast was ideal and we felt the benifit all day. I chose it as we were near to the central station.” Gillian, Stafford |
