“A few minutes walk away from the Amsterdam Central train station”
Anthony,
London
The family-run Old Nickel is just a short walk from Amsterdam Central Station. It offers budget rooms, a daily breakfast buffet, and a bar serving 70 different beers. This small hotel has guest rooms with a sink. The shared bathrooms are located outside the room in the hallway. Some of the rooms are in a separate building. A continental breakfast buffet is served each morning. You can relax in the bar, which has original wood paneling from a 17th-century ship. From The Old Nickel, you can reach Dam Square in a 10-minute walk. The Martelaarsgracht tram stop is 650 ft away, and offers direct access to the Museum Square with tram 5. It is very near the station, less than ten mins walk. The shared shower room is clean. The room is very small. Have to walk up 4 floors to our room with all our bags. At night can be quite noisy outside. There's a bit of smoke smell on my bed. The breakfast is too simple. Anyway, staying for just a night or two is okay.

Old Nickel is situated about 5 minutes walk from the central station so visitors can easily hop on a tram from there to anywhere in the city. Although it is very close to the red light district, the Old Nickel is far enough away that visitors can still find nice bars and restaurants in the area. The reception of the hotel is run out of a pub, so the reception area is always very lively. The rooms are relatively clean and the bathroom and showers are in good condition. The rooms near the street can be a bit noisy. In addition, our television didn't work (although we weren't visiting Amsterdam to watch tv). We also were not aware that the bathrooms and showers were shared with a couple other rooms on our floor, but it was never a problem.

I liked the position: Very close to the central station, and in the middle of the Red Light District ( all the fun was at walking distance). The hotel building was nice, the bar was nice and the room was very clean and very comportable. Evethough the room didn't have an own bathroom, there was no problem because it was very clean. The price was a little too high comparing with the quality (maybe because a very croudy period)

the bar that's it ! Stuff a bit rude, seems they don't care if you stay or you leave the old woman for breakfast almost shout at me cause I pick a wrong sit!! I am a guest or what?? Never seen something like that Room have a standard of an old camping Ridiculous paying 60 euro to sleep in a room like that Windows couldn't close and I have been told it's an old building.!!! means that old building don't need windows repair ! Obvious! Also the reception guy follow me into the street cause I was leaving with the keys. I didn't know hotel close at 4 am and if you are on late you sleep on the street!!!! Seems going back in the past when my parents use to tell me to get back home early!!! Pity was 20 years ago. The only god point is the location and the bar downstairs with a great selection of Belgian beer !! Overall...I would never sleep in there again and If I have to sleep again in Amsterdam better spend 50 quid more and sleep in a normal hotel instead an hostel called Hotel ! Not mentioning noises (from cleaning staff) , holes on the duvets, broken lights…..

Located at the city centre, only a short walk away from the central station. My room was small, but clean and I had a great view over the roofs of Amsterdam. The price was very cheap. The stairs were really steepish, but that´s normal in Amsterdam.

The location was superb and it is only a few minutes walk from the train station. We walked all over town from here. The breakfast was wonderful and the staff very helpful. Noise from the street below our window was sometime bothersome but since the weather was cool we could shut the modern windows to block most of it out.

Great value – clean room – friendly staff – ok breakfast – great location opposite main train station . . . Take ear plugs due to central location and don’t complain as others have done about it. It’s good value for what you pay . . . . . It’s not 5 star

Perfect location, surprisingly close to the railway station and to the center as well. Very small and simple room with no other piece of furniture only beds, but it was okay for 1 night. For longer stay it would not be so comfortable, but for this price it was acceptable. Anyway, in Amsterdam no one would spend their holyday inside, so if you want to have a place only to sleep, and spend your day in the city, it is a good choice!

The old nickel is in a great location if you are goin to explore the red light district. The staff here are really nice, breakfast is really nice. I have stayed at this hotel on two occasions and have just booked for another stay in July. I love old nickel just as much as I love Amsterdam :)

Friendly staff, good price, clean room, good location. Rooms was small and a bit worn (but clean), but this was expected as it is Amsterdam. Also some noise from the street because of the location.

great location. it is simple private hotel like many others in A'dam, made in old buildings out of flats. don't expect much, but if you plan to spend all day in the city - that is the best option. breakfast was too simple.

Charmy and cozy in a tight space. Small room, no bathroom in room, dirty shower without soap or shampoo. Noisy at night - but that can be expected and forgiven, in all honesty.

The accommodation was simple but everything we needed. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the shared bathroom facilities were only between our room and one other, only 2 rooms per floor and the property was very quiet (except for the bell tower outside). Despite being at the top of the staircase (almost like a ladder) it was great with a spectacular view over the city. The location is brilliant and really easy to find. Close to everything you need. I read the bad ratings before staying here and found them to be completely overexagerated. As long as you're not expecting the 4 Seasons, the place is great. The rooms weren't cold, the shower wasn't hot and cold, the stairs are easy to deal with, I didn't run into any dodgey characters. All in all, a great place to stay.

Old Nickel is in a perfect location for a short visit to Amsterdam as it is within walking distance of sights and allows for easy access to public transportation. The rooms are tiny and toilet & shower are in the hall, but everything is kept very clean.
