Stuff was very friendly
Just the cheap price create auditory of the rooms, which makes me scary about hygienic. But the hotel's stuff makes everything to keep the place.
This was the third time i've stayed at the hotel and think it's great. Perfect location, great budget prices and no frills but everything you need. Cosy little bar downstairs with nice buzz of locals and tourists. Just a minute walk from the station. Located in the most old and characterful area of the Dam. Shared facilites were right outside our room and the shower was good. All round great place and would definitely recommend to travellers and those looking for value. Looking forward to my next stay.
Location to the red light district, the train station, the churches and the high street. The fact you can smoke in the rooms and left to yourself with no disturbances.
The room was quite cold and the window didn't seem to shut properly.
Very good location. 2 mins from Amsterdam Centraal. Walking distance to Red light district and many, many coffee shops.
The staff were very rude and seemed altogether unhappy to be working there.
- close to the center and railway station - the price - very nice Old Nickel hotel-bar.
- if you expect quiet and calm place this is not best choice. But if you are a group of 4 friends who want to explore night-life of amsterdam, it is a good relation to the standard and price.
Brilliant location. Only 2 minutes from the central station. Perfect bar in the lobby with excellent choice of beers. Really great and friendly people working there.
Some of the guests are on the louder side (younger people).
Passable hotel !!, ..Walkable from Amsterdam Central Station, very near in Red Lights Districts, there is no lift or elevator!!!
It was super close to train station just take left after exit and next to the deck of cards. Price was decent too.
Room was super small although for a sleep over in this price probably you can't ask more. But rooms are next to stairs so like in my case I could hear people and other side of bed was window to open street but it wasn't too loud so was ok.
location, staff, clean, free wifi, toilets and shower room in convenient place next to room. overall, reasonable value for money...they even serve draught guinness in the bar, downstairs!!
a bit chilly at times in room. apart from that, nothing!!
Hotel located just across the central station. After checking out, staff can keep your baggages.
I found small bugs in the room, maybe fleas but not sure. I woke up 2 AM because of the itchiness, I found about 10 bitings on my face, neck and chest. I can see small bugs on the wall. I went downstairs and told the staff, immediately he offered me another room, said it's the only thing he could do, explained that situation happened 3 or 4 times every year and blamed tenants for bringing the bugs. I checked the other room (which located just one floor above the old one), no visible bugs, I slept. Only to woke up again at 4 AM because of itchiness, found more bitings on my face, waist, hand and ankles. I tried to stay awake but felt asleep because of tiredness. In a charming city where many things are tolerated, I found this experience shockingly unpleasant. In total there are about 20 bitings, they are still very itchy after 2 days. I have to check my bags thoroughly to make sure no bugs come with me. I did not see similar reviews on this hotel so maybe it's just my bad luck, however in any circumstances I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Other complaints would be the super small room (about 2m x 3m, one bed), strange smells in the hallway, noisy neighbourhood and outrageous price; but they are trivial.
It was local to everything with just a short walk! Was allowed to smoke in room
- location - quick check in and out - cheap and cheerful
Location is only good thing I can imagine.
Everything. Just don't go to this place.
location 2min from centraal station, the beautiful bar downstairs.Very cheap!
noise from the street but you know it when you book there
Nice staff Nice breakfast Quite (I live at the highest level at the hotel)
A bit old A bit hot in my room
Location 2 minutes from the station Cosy bar downstairs with good music (rock) Friendly cat Good value for money
Can't think of anything - I suppose if you were coming for several days you might like a private bathroom or a more spacious room, but for the price you can't really hope for better. :)
Although i called weeks before the arrival to ensure that we have a private bath room we did not get the room we booked. Manager asked us as the arrival date to pay 60 € more or we don't get the right room. Told us we booked the wrong room on booking.com but you can't book rooms with private bathroom online. Total Rip Off, stay away !!!!!
Pretty scrappy run down room. Fine for partying but not somewhere for a romantic weekend
Loved the location ..you stepped right out into the heart of the city
The fact I didn't stay longer :-(
good location,not thaaat expencive
really cold ground in the shower room, weird smell, you hear everything what's happening outside, place downstairs(the bar) looks creepy if you're a girl
The hotel was in a fantastic location. A 2 minute walk from both central station and all the main attractions we were interested in Amsterdam.
The only bad point I had is that we specified a double bed on ohr booking and were put in a triple room with 3 singles beds having to push 2 together which meant we spent majority of the night fixing the beds as we kept falling through them.
location, location, location! right in the heart of it, excellent value, it is basic and showing it's age, but clean and comfy. a cool bar downstairs w
nothing, it was great for us, but as the bar doesn't close until 3am, get a room in the higher floors if you're going to be in bed before then.
i liked that it was quiet even tho across fromm a pub but we stayed from tuesday till thursday the got my room wrong but gave me another room just wish it had a dubble bed but had a tv .... but it was lovely and warm and enjoyed my stay if just was a dubble bed instead of 2 beds pushed together
that i had to ask for a diffrent room as i tryed to book it 4 times and still didnt get a dubble bed i had 2 single beds together
Old Nickel is perfectly located. It is a 3 minute walk from Centraal Station and close to Dam Square, Chinatown and the Red Light District. Staff were very friendly and checking in and out was fast and easy. The bedroom we got for two people was spacious and the beds very comfortable. The washroom we had was immaculate. We were on the top floor and checked out the other rooms on the lower floors and by far we preferred our bedroom and bathroom/shower the most. They were very tidy and clean. For a budget hotel, Old Nickel is a great choice with everything you could need.
The only issue we had with the hotel was that it smelled like marijuana and tobacco in the halls. This only slightly bothered us as our room was clean and did not smell. Also it could be a bit loud in your room as the hotel is located on a busy street in the Red Light District and the sound of partygoers and pedestrians often does not stop until 3am. We did not mind the noise since we were always exhausted by the time we went to bed (thus being able to fall asleep immediately) but I can see this as a potential con for many people.
