The location is good, right near the central train station and the red light district. Right from the beginning, we realised that this hotel was no good considering the price you pay. The reception and lobby was being extensively renovated, we were stepping over workmen and getting covered in plaster just tying to get to the reception, we had no idea if the place was open (it was, but shouldn't have been it was such a mess). We eventually got told to go to another building to find our room (located behind a dodgy bureau de change) and found our room. On both the beds the bedsheets were washed but had bloodstains on them. The place smelt pretty dirty in general and on the last day the safe didn't open anymore with the code we had chosen, locking our passports inside.

I have never stayed in such a low rated hotel before because as a female solo traveller i worried i would not be safe. I thought it was going to be bearable and was prepared for the worst but I was really surprised, clean towels every day, clean sheets, quite quiet and when I "lost" a bag in reception containing travel and show tickets the reception let me use a PC to print them out and were really helpful. I have just returned from "Hôtel du Louvre in Paris" I’m gobsmacked that The Orange Tulip was warmer, the bed was more comfortable and the staff were far more helpful. I was in room 108 and every time someone fell up the step outside my room i could hear (it happened often, get a sign), The smell of chip fat from the restaurant downstairs filling the room was sickening at times, staff from somewhere must have had a smoking place near this room as i could hear them laughing and joking sometimes it went on quite late.

Location is great. It was very cold on our first night. We asked for a portable heater and they gave us. The inside of the room smells and through the windows you can see lots of litters. The location was excellent. We didn't need to buy a tram ticket because tourists places are within walking distance. Fresh towels everyday. Excellent warm water in the bathroom

The loactaions was the best feature of the Orange Tulip The staff were less than helpfull, my towl was taken from my room by staff and not returned. Overall I was disapointed with the stay but the location was the saving grace.

The room was great, clean, furniture looked taken care of, bathroom was clean and maintained. Definitely a great value for the money. Location is also great and staff is friendly and helpful. Too bad there was massive construction by the lobby and seems like hotel is detached from main office so if you need anything you have to go downstairs and out of the building then walk and enter the door that takes you to main office. But this is temporary as construction is in fact to correct this so the hassle will eventually go away. But overall definitely recommend this hotel.

This is a perfect place to stay if you are in the Dam for a short break. Located in the main street just minutes walk from Central Station there is no need for taxis. I stayed in a decent sized room with en suite facilities I would definitely stay here again and have no problem recomending the Orange Tulip.

I did not like anything in fact as in spite of the low expectations I had they have still succeeded to disappoint me. It is not safe the place!!!!! 2 night in a row I have had someone banging at my door and the old guy at the reception was hopelessly helpless. The bed is dirty even if I have asked them to change the sheets. It is too noisy and they d not do anything unless you go mad. The water in the shower is unstable you can either freeze or get boiled as you are taking your morning shower. The rooms were extremely small even the monks would not stay there. There was no wardrobe I could not hang my suites nor my shirts.

Location, Location, Location! Minutes walk from Central Station and Dam Square, Red light, trams, canal boats. Rooms were clean and towels/duvets changed each day. Staff were friendly enough and spoke english. This Hotel is a "budget" hotel, and by that it means quite basic, its a place to leave you bags and get a few hours sleep, perfect for a stag weekend or a quick stay with mates. As mentioned this is a "Budget" hotel, and this is budget by Amsterdam standards, still quite expensive! Can get noisy at night with other guests and extractor fans/aircon units right outside the window. Next time I would stay further out from Central station as the main throughfare outside the door is extremely busy at all times, and is close to the red light which is quite a seedy area.

The location was directly on the main street (Damraak) which is fantastic, however, the room was very small and not comfotable. There was hardly any room for one person, let alone two for a double room. I would not stay at this hotel again at the price that they charged. It was outrageous! I have been at more comfortable hotels in Amsterdam for much less.

The room (a "single") was definitely "bare minimum" -- a bed, a closet & a bathroom/WC combined. It was very small, but for my purpose, it was great. Literally just 500m (arnd 1500 feet) from Centraal Station, on the Damrak, and close to shopping & attractions. The staff was super nice & professional. The restaurant downstairs "The Allstar" cooperates with De OranjeTulp, gives you a 10% discount on your meals, and there the staff was also very nice, and the food was pretty good, albeit a bit expensive -- but what else can you expect considering the location. If you're on a budget & want a place right in the middle of it all, I recommend this hotel. My room was really small -- 5 m2 (15 sq ft) -- for the 80Euro, but again location counts!!

Excellent position! It is situated at 5 minutes at walk to the central station and the Dam Square. The room are very dirty and the staff is useless! They didn't clean my room for 5 days. Also, one night, I found a mouse in my room and the staff didn't help me. The reception's personal change every day and I couldn't understand who is the manager of the hotel.
