Overall comfort and location of the hotel
The room which was located at the front of the hotel was slightly noisy
The Paleis Hotel is located in the heart of the old city, within short walking distance of museums, cafes, restaurants, shops, etc. We were warned before hand by the hotel of the parking situation and had no trouble at all parking in a nearby garage. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable; not much of a view but it was quiet and calm. We chose to opt out of the breakfast offer thinking it was a bit expensive and could have been time consuming, and instead found a cafe around the corner. We plan to return to the Hague, and I would not hesitate to return to the Paleis Hotel.
Some may find the beds a bit soft and squishy. I enjoyed all the down and coziness--sort of like sleeping in a cloud.
Hotel Character Helpful Staff Clean Comfortable & Quiet Free Wifi
Style, comfort, friendliness, discretion
Breakfast cost extra, at a fixed rate, independently of what or how much a guest wanted to eat. Location was good for centre of historic town, but was a long walk for business purposes ( not the hotel's fault but a disadvantage in my case) ( at Durch Foreign Ministry); taxis were no use due to complex traffic restrictions in town but still expensive: hotel staff did not advise of this.
Everything except bed was too soft!
Bed too soft
The hotel is beautiful-- the room was spacious, tastefully decorated, with a lovely big bathroom. Sadly, I was only here for one night on business.
What I didn't appreciate was being given the hotel city tax bill before leaving the hotel at 7:45am. really? It was only a few euros, but it was a lot of inconvenience because it wasn't on the bill and I had to ask 2x to have it sent to me after I returned to work to put on my expenses sheet.
Small room, istead of promised 30m2 we had not more than 12m2, for this room terrible price.
The location of this hotel is fantastic, right in the heart of the old town, a stone's throw from the Royal Palace. However, this position does have one downside, which is that the noise from nearby bars can disturb sleep. Decor is good and the hotel seems to be well on top of the maintenance of this. But... (or 'maar', as the Dutch say)
We understand that the ownership of this hotel has changed. The previous owner, who always seemed to be on site when we last visited a few years back, gave the place a buzz and made it feel super-special. She seemed also to energise the staff. This time, this feeling was not there: the staff were pleasant enough, but that was all one could say. We had breakfast on one day. The food was fine (and the lady who served it was pleasant) but the presentation and feel was a bit lack-lustre, so we didn't bother again. Against this backdrop (and we are not especially fussy people), fairly minor issues seemed to be magnified: a black hair in the sink; the power to the rooms on our floor going off at about 9.30pm one evening (no explanation offered, or apology given; no answer when we called reception to report it); slow and 'clunky' wi-fi; a very slow draining sink; no working electric vent in the bathroom; the kettle had been used as a teapot and a teabag had been left in it. All these things happen in all hotels, but it is how they are handled and checked for that matters. The building and the decor are fab, but ('maar')... Compared with our last visit, this was a disappointment.
It is really good location, and there are many good staff.
good, friendly service very clean and comfortable rooms excellent breakfast near good restaurants close to art galleries and shops
no international tv channels working (missed Scottish election news)
The mattress was fantastic, possibly the best I have ever experienced in over 20 plus trips abroad. The location too was excellent. As I enjoy taking baths the size of the bath was perfect and I thoroughly enjoyed lavender bubble baths on each day. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast room was in keeping with the ambience of the rest of the hotel and added to the pleasure of staying in this lovely hotel.
It would have been nice to have had a bar fridge in the room. I do also like access to a daily newspaper. I had requested one before arriving but it never turned up.
Good breakfast range. Close to great range of restaurants.
Mini bar and room service prices a little expensive - but you don't have to use them.
The staff, the accomodation and the location
Location. Staff. Great breakfast.
Shower temperature control not working.
The staff were quite pleasant
I'm sure I ordered a larger room. What I got was a room which was at the highest level of the building, quite small and no real desk space. This made it very difficult to work. One could barely walk around the bed. Booking.com should record area of room in booking confirmation to avoid misunderstandings.
We requested a quiet room. At first they suggested the street side and we said we preferred quiet. Every effort was made to accommodate us on the garden side. The large room was beautiful and extremely quiet. The A/C worked great and the bathroom was spotless and huge. We had a wonderful stay.
The exterior door is often locked which is understandable given the small staff. However, the door should be attended at all times. One evening at 18H, we could not get inside the hotel. We were stranded on the street for about 10 minutes. How fortunate it was not raining. I would suggest the hotel install a digicode..
Unusual interesting interior. Interesting try to make distinctive palace-like style, however, not finished. Very nice curtains and comfortable bed. Nice name of the hotel.
The room differs significantly from a picture at booking.com. Very small size, color of the walls is unappealing. For this price is only small and not very comfortable shower cabin. Electric kettle is placed in the cupboard, strange and inconvenient.
Reception excellent Beautful decor and attention to details, very luxurious
Very noisy - two bars/restaurants next door Room very small
The location and staff were good
we had booked a room with air con which was not working on arrival - they moved us to an executive room instead but made us move back out the next morning to a room with no air comn and sayed they were fully booked that night and we should open the window instead.the noise from the street outside and seagulls from early morning just added to the stress of the stay - we were then moved back to another room the next day - 3 nights/3 rooms.....not exactly relaxing!!!! they said they would give us discount as i explained that we didnt sleep - they gave us a mere twenty euro off the price (330 euro) - if i had known all of this before hand we would definatly have stayed elsewhere.
Staff were very friendly Room was nice - upgrade was very much appreciated Very good location Really enjoyed our stay
It was very hot weather - the AC was appreciated but it was so noisy. If you had the windows open, the drinkers on street would wake you up. Take good ear plugs!
Central location. Room looks classy, linen is super clean, room is big enough for a simple superior
Shower had only hot - extremely hot - water. The staff couldn't do anything about it. Very, very loud at night. We could hardly fall asleep but woke up immediately with every bike passing by. For a 4-star hotel it is a shame to have such poor bathroom cosmetics - people hope to have it all in the hotel and travel light but get nothing eventually. Breakfast is too expensive - 16€ per person. It is cheaper to have it out in a coffee house. The hotel doesn't really meet the requirements of a four star one. Too bad :-(
location, hotel staff, room decoration. I have lived in The Hague for 4 years, and had stayed for more than 2 months in total days in the city due to temporary accomodation during relocation process. I have stayed in Novotel, Mercure, Des Indes, Hilton, Ibis in Den Haag centrum. The Paleis Hotel is by far the best hotel in The Hague centrum. The most convinience location for shopping, dining and tourist destinations. Very energetic, helpful and friendly hotel staff. Nice European style room decoration. I definitely recommend the hotel to my friend, family and colleagues who will stay in The Hague.
If you have a car, overnight parking can be an inconvinience (offsite parking).
I liked everything about this hotel it is gorgeous, i had a lovely room with a balcony and has been upgraded to a superior room. Big room with everything i needed. The location of this hotel is top !!!
Nothing really , the hotel does not have a bar but if you need ice you can get it and it is so close to everything you dont really need a bar!
