Excellent value hotel. 15 min walk from Dam Square/Red Light District. 20 min walk from train station. Far from fancy, but kept clean and decent beds. Also own bathroom, and balconies (great for smokers) I'd stay again, bargain!!

An olderman who was at the desk after breakfast on the day we left was polite and very helpful. He offered to make a complaint about the rude young man on night duty. The man on duty when we arrived (whom we took to be the manager) was superficially friendly, but was scornful of my wife's request that someone might help us carry our heavy bags up the very steep stairs to that attic room which was the only one we'd been able to book. Before breakfast on the day we we were due to leave, I took our luggage to the storage space beside the office and was shouted at by the night clerk. I have never been addressed so rudely when a guest in a hotel.

The staff were very nice. The hotel is close to a supermarket which offers a discount showing the hotel key and the hotel has a small refrigerator. Wifi is weak but they have a computer next to the receprtion which you can use for free. Also, there are lots of discount coupons for museums and transportation and some food machines at the reception. There is a safe and a device for pressing pants in the room There is no elevator and the stairs are very steep. And the floors are very thin so you can hear people walking above you, sometimes in the middle of the night.

I liked Hotel Plantage the first time I visited in Sept '11, so much so that I brought my boyfriend and I to 'Dam for his 21st and decided that for price, location and room size, this hotel is streets ahead of others. The service is basic but great. The rooms are a very decent size, have fully opening windows but are warm and they have smoking rooms available, (handy when in 'Dam!). I managed to book from the day after we actually arrived and the staff couldn't do enough to help, they sorted us out with an upgrade for no-extra cost to ensure we could stay in one room for the whole stay. Thanks again for that!! Great amenities, such as a nearby supermarket, (great for those on a budget) and several cafe-bars extremely close to the hotel (one directly underneath, but we suffered no extraneous noise sources) and as there is no breakfast/dinner or room service available at the hotel this is extremely useful. I love the place and will definitely be going back.

The location was awesome, it had free wi-fi and our stay was cheap but comfortable. The shower would flood when used and we were given a squeegy mop to mop it up with.

The hotel stuff was very helpful. Wifi worked without problems in my phone. The parking was cheap. We booked "Small Twin Attic Room", but it wasn't that small at all or maybe we got just a better room. Couldn't use wifi in my laptop, but it wasn't big deal since it worked on iphone.

Very pleasant location - in a clean & silent district, with a good cafe in the building and two steps away from the zoo. Shower & toilet were not that clean.

Situated near Zoo and in 15-20 minutes from the city center. Nice restaurant on the first floor. Large rooms. It's noise because of restaurant on the 1-st floor (works till 12PM). Not very clean. Shower is uncomfortable.

The location and courtesy and helpfulness of the staff. Hotel staff need to sensitize guests to the issue of keeping noise levels down after 9 pm. Often guests would return after 9 pm and then make a lot of noice even up to 3-4 am, making it difficult for others to get some peace and quiet. My room was right near the public computer and vending machines and hence got the full brunt of this noise such that I did not sleep for most of my visit. Given that I spent 2 weeks at the hotel (as I was a visiting researcher at the University of Amsterdam), the lack of silence and of sleep really made a difference to me.

Hotel Plantage was clean and comfortable and ideal area for a short stay in Amsterdam. The Manager was very nice and helpfull. The Hotel was close to Amsterdam Centre, Tram stops, had several bars and eating places nearby and just across the road from Amsterdam Zoo which I must say, much to my suprise was fantastic, The animals are very well looked after and the zoo is set in botanical gardens, spent a full day there and still did not see it all.

Good location near centrum, easy to get everywhere without transportation. There is cafe downstairs, so it was easy to get breakfast when you wanted to at reasonable price. Room was bit worn up but still ok, you can have cleaning whenever you wanted it to be done. Good value for the money if you look at the general prices at Amsterdam.

The location is very good. It is not in the noisy center but you can have a nice walk to the Dam Square in 25 mins or take the tram(5 to 10 mins max). The tram stop is located just in front of the hotel. The hotel and stuff were old and not the cleanest room I have stayed but our room was definitely ok for the Amsterdam standards. The staff was not very friendly, the price was very high for the quality (300 euros for a double room for the weekend)

The hotel staff were very friendly, kindly gave us tips and information and a very kind welcome. The hotel is in a very good location, close to a tram station and just a minutes' walk away from the city centre. There is free internet in the hotel and though it is right next to a main street, it was very quiet. All in all, a very good place to stay for a weekend city trip. We booked the top room and the 2 windows couldn't be opened, which caused some bad air quality sometime.
