Hotel Restaurant de Engel

very help full staff, excellent food well prepared to our requests, clean rooms, comfortable beds, very easy for Keukenhof gardens, 4 bed rooms outside above the restaurant via steep iron stair case.

The steep outside iron stairs to the upstairs rooms were very difficult to negotiate for two of my party with mobility problems, especially with cases.

It is exactly on the road between Sassenheim and Lisse, and has a bus stop next to it. They have a very good restaurant, the waiters are awesome (and also speak a variety of languages). The room was exactly as advertised. I liked the fact that there was adjustable heating in the room. They also have generous parking space for cars. In comparison with other hotels in the region and at this period, very good value for money.

Very steep flight of stairs to climb to the rooms - 18 very very steep stairs (I expected stairs, but I was surprised at how steep they were). There was no soap in the bathroom (even though there were shampoo, and conditioner, and cream and the like). The insulation of the room is very thin, so we heard all our neighbours' movements and all the traffic in the street. The mattress was also too soft and it moved together with you, which is not what a mattress should do.

The staff in the Hotel were very helpful and welcoming.The room was comfortable and with a good modern design. The restaurant had a lively atmosphere and served good food.It was good to see that the Hotel was popular with so many people but also we were not disturbed in our room and slept very well. The breakfast was also good and plenty of tasty food in the Dutch breakfst style. The hotel is well situated for the Keukenhof Gardens which are great to visit and plenty of exhibits in the greenhouses which proved to be a blessing in the unusually cold Spring. The Hotel is also well situated for visiting Amsterdam and exploring other interesting towns and the coast in the surrounding area.

The outside access could prove to be a problem in certain situations but it certainly didn't spoil our stay. The room could really do with another brighter lamp to help light up the room area.

Good food and friendly service

Internet worked marginally first night and not at all on check out day. Room was very drafty through window.

The climb up the metal open steps outside the restaurant was worth it. Our room and private bathroom were quite large and newly decorated - quite lovely. The food both in the main restaurant and also the bar was very appetizing. The best things about this hotel/restaurant was its location to the Keukenhof gardens - just a few minutes down the road - and the delightful wait staff of Karen and Peter.

There wasn't a thing we didn't like!

We were greeted warmly and even offered a cup of coffee as we completed the registration. We were able to check in several hours early and that was convenient. The room was small but adequate and very well maintained. It was cheerfully decorated. The restaurant food was very good and we ate there each evening. This hotel is close to the Keukenhof, only about 5 km away, and was very, very convenient.

There is a narrow steep outside staircase leading to the rooms and that wasn't really convenient for carrying baggage. Also we had to go out in the rain to get to the restaurant.

I went with my mom to the keukenhof festival, so we chose to stay at hotel restaurant de Engel. It is very closed to there, on a sunny day, you can simply walk to there in around 30 min, and pass by the flower field!! Yet, during our stay ( mid- may), all the flowers are gone={ if any of you want to see the flower, the best time is in April. Anyway, there are several bus stop near by, so it is very convinience. For the staff, they are super friendly and helpful, they gave us alot of info around the city and how to get to keukenhof garden. The room is well-design and tidy. It feels like you are staying at a hotel. However, if you just want to stay one night to visit the garden, then head back to Amsterdam ( like us) to take the train back, I'd suggest just stay in Amsterdam instead, since it is very easy to go from there to the garden as well. Anyway, I wish I have more time in Lisse, it is a lovely city to explore

The rooms were added on to the top of a resturaunt and the outside stairs were as steep as climbing a latter. I hurt my back getting my luggage up the stairs and had to be very careful not to fall going down the stairs. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone

We stayed purely because of its location but was blown away with the quality and price of their menu. The round steak (fillet) at 17.95 eu was magnificent so much so we had the same 2 evenings running. The close proximity to Keukenhof was our reason for staying. However an easy drive into Amsterdam using the Olympic Park and Ride (and you get 2 transport tickets to and from the car park FREE OF CHARGE) is such a great bonus. We are planing another trip next year and will be using Hotel Restaurant de Engel as our base ( I hope we can get a room ater such a report )

Only one draw back the entrance to the accomodation is from outside the Hotel and is up a metal staircase and over the roof on decking.

The Staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good but choice could have been varied each day. The evening meals were all excellent and good value for money. The beds were comfortable (but we would have preferred a double. The facilities in the room were good and the bathroom was modern, clean and all towels and flannels were changed daily. The steps up to the accommodation were fairly steep and not a problem for us but you would be challenged if you had a difficulty with mobility. They were also lit in appropriate places at night. There was an outside pation area with seating and a pretty central plant arrangement. It is also an excellent location if you are going to visit the Keukenhof, which is what we did (beautiful gardens, breath taking actually).

Only downside was on our last night (Friday) there was a late party and we were disturbed by the background music.

Ample car parking which was free. A very good restaurant on site. The owners were obliging and friendly.

Le personnel sympathique, le patron parlant francais, la chambre comfortable et joliment décorée, le resto aux plats bien présenté et bon surtout !!! le tout a un prix raisonnable;

La situation de l'hotel au bord d'une route passante donc avec un peu de bruit mais il suffit de rentrer un peu tard le soir ,(amsterdam n'est pas tres loin) et ca va, sinon rien d'autres !!!

Pour accéder aux chambres, toutes 3 situées sur le toit de l'hotel, il faut emprunter un escalier en fer, très étroit et très raide, ce qui est extremement périlleux lorsqu'on est chargé de bagages. Si j'avais su cela je n'aurais jamais réservé cet hotel. De plus les chambres donnent sur la grand route et sont très bruyantes.
