Very welcoming and polite staff. Very clean, fresh towels every day. I liked the 'mood' of the place, the dark colours and contemporary style in an old building. Position in the town is great for both tourists and the RAI Exhibition Centre. Handy bike hire, right outside the door. The bedding linen and pillows are wonderful, they literally swallow you up for a great nights sleep. Funky radio and lighting controls. Really very good
As with a lot of contemporary style hotels, the rooms are not always that functional, (style over practicalities). There's almost no space to put your toiletries next to the sink and I was on my own in a double room, my wife would have found it very frustrating. Lighting is from one side whilst at the mirror above the sink, so shaving is in shadow on one side and your in your own shadow when on the loo as the light is behind you, not great if you want to read! the toilet and sink spaces are very small, so larger people might find it a bit frustrating. There's no towel rail, just a hook. The 'mood' feel is great, all dark and sophisticated, but partially sighted people will find it hard to navigate the stair way. The cutlery is very stylish but the knives are a bit useless for putting butter and jam on toast as they run to a long point rather than a rounded end.
Leonie, guest manager, and her assistant, Priscilla, simply could not have been more friendly, charming and helpful. We have stayed at 5 star hotels that did not begin to compare in terms of staff or service. While relatively small, the rooms were extremely comfortable and provided every facility one could ask for. I would recommend Sir Albert as one of the best hotels we've ever stayed at. Also, the Pijp district of Amsterdam is an amazing and facinating section of the city-by far the most hip with excellent restaurants, including two right across the street from the hotel.
Everything! The whole Sir Albert experience was an excellent surprise and we particulalry valued the help from the reception staff regarding the local area, museum bookings, taxis and where to eat. The restaurant was superb.
No faults to find
Really comfortable bed, outside seating, bike hire, location
Beautiful hotel, great design, comfortable, clean, wonderful service, great restaurant, free wi-fi...
dark closet, cannot find my clothes! dark corridors dark interiors
Beds, air freshener fragrance, 'study' & restaurant
Towels (not fluffy!)
Lovely modern hotel with friendly staff
Having to pay the deposit upon arrival was a surprise, some pre-warning would have been nice.
We could walk everywhere with ease
Clean room. Helpful staff. Close to Tram stop and Museum District. Along a major street.
A bit costly considering that the room was not big.
Good location, within walking distance of major tourist attractions, and good access to public transport. The welcoming complimentary glass of chilled champagne added a nice touch. Check-in and -out was quick and efficient.
Like most European hotels, the room was very small, with inadequate space for suitcases. The minibar prices were unreasonable -- particularly annoying as nearby convenience stores do not remain open after normal trading hours.
Excellent location High quality room fit out.
Liked the location once I learned how to use the tram system. Very close to most of the tourist sites you want to see. Hotel is very modern in it's facilities and staff is anxious to please.
Hotel is very modern and facilities including rooms look beautiful until you use them. As in all facilities designed by an interior designer looks sometimes overcomes practicality.
Fantastic hotel located near some very cool bars and cafés. Friendly staff, comfortable bed and luxury shower.
Nothing not to like.
Quiet. Excellent temperature control. Very comfortable bed. Very convenient to get to museums. Reasonably good restaurants (e.g., SenT) within walking distance.
Heavy over-head shower head nearly fell off (I tightened after it was leaking and I realized how loose it was). Food was mediocre. I ordered an omelet for breakfast and could barely find the ingredients inside the egg. Very small room. Had to lift the suitcase over the bed to get in on the other side of the room! No room to do sit-ups. Bathroom (toilet) so small that knees nearly touched opposing wall. Decor is all black. Black table, black shower glass, black wall, black paint on wall -- you get the idea. Black water glass had slight chip in rim of glass that (slightly) cut my lip. I asked for replacement glass, but apparently no reserve black water glass in stock (maybe that's why it wasn't replaced in the first place?). Staff okay. Trying to be upscale or trendy, but staff sometimes act like they are doing you a favor. But overall, nice and helpful staff.
The hotel is beautiful and amazingly kept. Friendly and helpful staff!
There was nothing not to like
- ambiente and design - close to public transport (tram)
- a bit noisy from the street - prices in the restaurant a bit on the higher side...
Excellent bed , very comfortable Nicely appointed room
A bit pricey , however I was a really late arrival after a missed connection so I was never going to get a good deal !
Great service and excellent location.
The staff at Sir Albert are exceptional, from the first greeting to the last goodbye. The decor of the boutique hotel is stylish and modern, but oh so welcoming. Our softest bed in ten weeks of travel. The only mistake was not to book for two nights before we headed home.
Very well fitted out rooms, amazingly comfortable beds, spacious bathroom with a bath (luxury) and very attentive staff with the small/intimate hotel atmosphere. Easy walking and tram service to all sights and attractions.
There were a few incidental events, forgetting a room service order, charging City Tax again, but most irritating was not the hotel but the service in the restaurant in the building. As a single patron, the wait for service and delay getting delivery of an ordered drink with the food course spoiled the experience. As did the platitudes offered by the waitress who spent more time attending to the other tables.
Good location. Comfortable room. Excellent restaurant if you want dinner, but there are some very good breakfast places nearby, so it's foolish to spend the 18 euros the hotel charges.
Housekeeping staff ignore the "do not disturb" sign, so if you're jetlagged and trying to sleep in, you're liable to get awakened. If you point out that you've got the "do not disturb" sign on, you'll be told, "Oh, we thought you were out and forgot you had the sign on."
